Chapter 49: Pushing Her Away
Chapter 49: Pushing Her Away
As soon as he left the Calgroth’s shop, Kenji immediately went back to the inn briefly. He decided to drop the children there, as he no longer wanted to take them on any of his dangerous quest, especially one like this one, where he would be facing humans with powers!
The situation of the last quest had already left a small scar in his heart and he knew that he could never let such happen again, for him to see them crying over him again.
No! That must never happen again!
So the moment he arrived back at the inn, Kenji dropped them and promised to be back as soon as possible.
And as he left them sitting at home with a game board that he had bought while passing through the market, so as they wouldn’t get too bored without him.
Immediately he left the house, he headed towards the mines. Since Gorvan had said that the mines was hosting a lot of bandits and robbers at the moment, he knew he had to be careful when he arrived there. Danger could be lurking from any angle, and so he had to make sure everyone around him was protected and safe.
As he got out of town, he re-summoned Haruka and asked if he could ride on her back to get to the mines quicker, since she was faster than he was and he would be able to save more energy for whatever was going to happen when he got there.
As she sped towards the mine, as fast as she could, Haruka decided to ask Kenji a question that was beginning to bother her.
" Kenji, why is it that you had accepted the quest from that Calgroth? I mean, why didn’t you just ask him to make you a weapon with proper materials? Why do you need this... dreadiron ore anyways?" Haruka asked with an inquisitive gaze.
While at the store, at first Kenji was angry, then the next second when he heard about dreadiron being the same material used for the hero’s party, his whole demeanor changed in the blink of an eye and he immediately wanted to get this same material to be used for his own weapon also.
* Maybe it’s because he is one of those fans that love the hero’s party. The type that they want to know everything about them?* Haruka thought suspiciously, as that was the only explanation that could pop up in her mind, I mean, why else?
As Haruka asked her question, Kenji didn’t know what to say. Haruka had no idea about his connections to the hero’s party, and he really wasn’t ready to tell her, as he felt she would also mock him just like the rest. He didn’t even want to tell Shreya, but she had found out on her own while bonding with him.
She had literally watched his memories like watching a movie. The only thing Shreya doesn’t know was that he was from another world. Sure she knew he was summoned, but she thought that it was from somewhere far off in this world.
Also, he didn’t think he really needed a weapon made out of dreadiron, but the fact that Yuji and the rest have their weapons made out of this same type of ore made him want to have it too.
But now that he thought about it some more, it seemed almost as if he was obsessed. But what could he do about it, he just couldn’t let it go for some reason.
The feeling that he wants to prove himself, the feeling that he needs to prove himself was and would most likely always be there, sitting in one big corner of his heart.
* I can’t let them be right, I can’t let them know that they were right. Because they aren’t! I’m strong! And I’m going to keep getting strong!* He thought deeply, his eyes radiating determination, as he recalled the day he was outcasted. The day he became trash! That day has etched itself in his head, never going to leave him. And probably that was why, probably that was why he couldn’t let it go, because he would always remember the feeling of that day. The dread, the disgusted eyes, and the worst of all, the mockery. All of that just couldn’t let him go, he couldn’t move on, but he has to.
That was why he would take on any quest without even thinking, because he just wanted something to distract himself from that day, that feeling of being useless.
" I just wanted a good weapon. I mean if I have to face a creature like Argoth again, then I definitely have to be ready right?" Kenji said in response, as he put on a genuine smile that seemed even more fake than fake.
But Haruka didn’t press on. * Maybe he’s feeling embarrassed and thinks that I’ll mock him if I find out that he one of the crazy fans of light-kind heroes*
They then continued their journey in silence, with neither of them exhaling a word out of their mouths, as they both had things to think about in their minds.
After about a few minutes later, they finally arrived at their destination. The mine looked just like any other regular mining area, except it had a lot of broken down pieces of stones surrounding it like a barrier to warn Intruders.
Also, even the Mana in the surrounding air was actually a bit thicker here that normal, meaning that spells and Mana channeling would be much more easier.
" Alright, Haruka, I need you to return to the ether, I don’t want you getting hurt in there," Kenji said with a determined gaze.
" What?!" Haruka exclaimed with a shocked look," you want me to go back to the ether instead of helping you?! You’re literally going into a den of bandits and robbers?!" She said, her voive rising with every word spoken.
" Look, Haruka, I don’t want you to get hurt, so I need you to go back to the Ether, please," Kenji said, his eyes showing a pleading exppression, as he didn’t want to use force.
But Haruka didn’t care, she shook her head in denial as she said," if you think that I’m going to walk into a safe spacial realm and let you go into a place filled with blood thirsty humans, then you’re totally wrong!" She said, not letting her will waver.
Kenji stroked his forehead as he heard her, he knew that asking nicely wasn’t going to work anymore now, so he had to do it the hard way now," Haruka, get into the Ether, and I am not asking you this time, I’m telling you!" He said, letting his voice rise with every word spoken, causing Haruka to take a step back.
Haruka’s ears Immediately fell down onto her head, as she whimperd, almost as if she was a pet who had just gotten scolded by her owner.
" Fine, if you want me to really go, then fine, but at least be careful," She said, as a magic circle appeared behind her, and she slowly retreated into it.
As Haruka left, Kenji released a sigh, not of relief but of annoyance...to himself!
* How could I have said that? I had promised to see her as a friend, not a slave, and that’s exactly what I didn’t do! Ha! I hope she’ll be able to forgive me,* Kenji thought, as he decided to head into the mine, trying to think of a way to apologise later.
But suddenly, a red streak of light flew out from his head and unto his shoulder, causing him to sigh, as he braced himself for reprimadandation," Kenji! What you did was probably the dumbest thing you could have ever done! How could you have sent Haruka away just like that?! What were you thinking?!" Shreya said, literal flames scorching from her eyes.
" I had to. I didn’t want her to get hurt-"
" You didn’t want her to get hurt?! Well then tell me how you think she would feel if you get hurt?! Would she be happy?!" Shreya said, anger evident in her voice.
" Look, I’ll apologise to her later, but for now, just help me out and scan the surroundings for me, I don’t want to get ambushed," Kenji said with a soft sigh, as he raised his guard.
" You don’t want to get ambushed? then why did you send Haruka away, she’s technically the only beast you own, other than that behemoth of a shadow beast," Shreya said, as she reluctantly scanned the area and showed to Kenji that he was still in a safe zone.
" You know Kenji, why don’t you have the common basic sense that every other person has, stop thinking you’re the only one with hard times in life. You’re not the protagonist," Shreya said with a defeated sigh, as she decided to return into his mindscape.
After walking for a while longer, Kenji began to hear noises coming from deeper into the mine. They sounded more like voices than anything actually.
* Bandits! Those are probably the bandits!*
He then decided to keep on going forward, heading towards the voices, as maybe he might find some valuable information from them as to how to get the dreadiron ore, as he couldn’t just start hammering away on the walls, that could take forever and attract too much attention.
As he got closer to the noises, their words became more distinct and clear. After reaching a point where he could even see them, he hid behind a large rocky wall and eavesdropped on their conversation.
...
" The boss isn’t going to be happy you know. I mean we’ve been mining for over two months now and all we’ve come up with is three dreadiron ores, if we don’t get up to at least seven before the next month arrives, then I’m afraid we’re cooked," said the leader in the group of bandits, fear completely evident in his voice, as the rest of the bandits gulped down their own saliva in fear.
Whosoever this boss of theirs is, he’s definitely not one to be trifiled with.
" Hey boss, I heard you tamed a danosaptish beast, can we see it?" One of the bandits said in excitement as he asked earnestly, hoping that the leader would comply.
The others also nodded the heads, wanting to know if it was true, and also and see the beast!
The leader grinned proudly with a slight smirk growing on his face," of course it’s true, after helping out and showing my merits to the big boss, he had used his connections in the crimson veil cult and helped me to acquire a danosaptish beast of the advanced bloodline! I technically have a C rank beast in my Ether space now!" The leader said, as he made a magic circle form in his hands and chanted out loud.
" Arise from the depths of the ether: Daeron!"
Immediately, a massive magic circle appeared above their heads, and a huge creature jumped out!
It had red scales like fire, and two powerful looking legs times seven that of an elephant! Though it’s legs were huge, it hands were a bit small, but still, the ferocity of this beast, especially the sharp and killer looking teeth and fangs, along with it’s diverse facial.
This thing was a whole other level when it came to size and ferocity!
Seeing the beast, Kenji revealed a shocked exppression on his face and instinctively shouted out loud," That’s a freaking T-Rex!"
