Chapter 48: Quest For Dreadiron.

Chapter 48: Quest For Dreadiron.

Arroving at the store, Kenji and the rest of the group immediately walked up to the Calgroth, their expressions unpleasant.

For the Calgroth, whose nameplate read "Gorvan," didn’t even flinch as Kenji approached, slamming the broken remnants of the sword onto the counter. "What kind of scam are you running here?" Kenji demanded, his voice laced with anger and annoyance.

Who sells such useless products for such high prices?!

six hundred coins!

He had bought it for six hundred coins and with just one swing of the sword onto a tree, the weapon shattered!

Gorvan raised a stony eyebrow, his arms crossed over his chest. His skin, rough and jagged like cooled magma, shimmered faintly in the sunlight. "Scam?" he rumbled, his voice gravelly and unimpressed. "What scam?"

"This sword!" Kenji snapped, pointing at the broken blade. "It shattered on the first swing! You sold me junk!"

Gorvan leaned forward, inspecting the shards with a critical eye. "Well, it’s not my fault you don’t know how to handle a blade. Looks like you swung it wrong."

"Swung it wrong?" Kenji repeated incredulously, his voice rising. "You’re seriously blaming me for your faulty craftsmanship?!"

Haruka growled softly, revealing her human-like teeth that wasn’t so scary. "Master, I think this one’s trying to take you for a fool."

Kenji glared at Gorvan, who remained annoyingly calm. "Look, I don’t care what excuse you give me. You owe me a real weapon. Something that won’t break in my hands. Or at least give me back my money, I’ll be better off going to another blacksmith who isn’t short and can actually make a weapon," Kenji said and immediately regretted his choice of words.

" Did you just call me short?!" Gorvan exclaimed in anger, as he got his tiny body to stand onto the counter and look straight at Kenji," are you questioning my skills?"

Hearing the question, an idea suddenly popped into Kenji’s head," I’m not questioning your skills, I know your skills are bad. Isn’t that why you made that crap weapon? Because you were just desperate to sell something and don’t really have any skills whatsoever," Kenji said, provoking a vein to appear on one side of Gorvan’s head.

He felt humiliated.

" How dare yo-"

" Give me back my money, and I shall take it to a true master worthy of it," Kenji said with a decisive look.

" Fine!" Gorvan said through gritted teeth," where are your materials?"

" What?"

" You wanted a strong weapon right? Where are the materials that I will use to make such a weapon? You don’t just come into a blacksmith and ask for something specific without bringing in any materials...right?!" Gorvan said, as he returned to sitting on his stack of books.

" You mean you’re going to make a weapon? A better one?" Kenji said, his eyes brightening up.

It worked!

He had technically just used reverse psychology on this little Calgroth! And suprisingly, it worked!

" So, your materials," Gorvan said, stretching out his tiny little palm towards Kenji.

Seeing this, Kenji scratched the back of his head, as he realized that he didn’t really have any materials for the crafting of the weapon.

" You don’t have any materials for the weapon that you said badly want? Then why are you wasting my time!" Gorvan yelled back, although he was small, his voice was as loud as the stomping of seven elephants!

" Calm down. Why don’t you just tell me the materials you’d need for crafting me my weapon. A real weapon, one that can withstand almost anything being thrown at it." Kenji said, as he tried to reduce the anger of the little calgroth.

Gorvan snorted, his molten veins glowing brighter in irritation. "A ’real weapon,’ huh? You want a weapon that can witstand almost anything right ? If you really want something stronger, you’ll need better materials. Really good ones. That sword wasn’t top-tier because you didn’t pay for top-tier."

Kenji gritted his teeth as he heard that? Six hundred hold wasn’t enough for top tier? That amount could last a whole family and get them comfortable for the rest of their life and you don’t call that top tier? What the hell!!. "Then what does it take to get a weapon that doesn’t break?"

The Calgroth’s smirk deepened, and he leaned forward, his tiny arms resting on the counter. "If you’re serious about getting something durable, you’ll need **Dreadiron Ore**."

Kenji blinked. "Dreadiron Ore? What’s that?"

Gorvan’s molten eyes glinted with something between amusement and challenge. "It’s no ordinary metal. Dreadiron is a rare ore found in one of my race’s mine. It is used for making incredibly strong materials, one for true legends. You know the weapon the heroes are using to fight off the demons was made with dreadiron ore. If you can get that ore, then you’ll have one of the strongest weapons ever known to light-kind" Gorvan said with a slight smirk.

{ A/N: Light-kind: it’s like saying mankind, but I thought it wouldn’t be accurate since there are other creatures in this world other than humans, so to generalize them, we’ll call them light-kind, while the demon race and it her beasts tied to darkness would be call dark-kind.}

Hearing that Yuji and the rest used a weapon made of dreadiron ore, Kenji’s fist Immediately became clenched," where is this mine located? I’ll buy it all!" Kenji said with an uprise in determination.

This sudden change of behavior didn’t go unnoticed by Haruka and Shreya. Although Shreya understood why Kenji reacted like that, due to her having peered into his memories while bonding with him, Haruka on the other hand had no idea of the reason he reacted that way, causing her to feel minorly confused.

" Buy dreadiron? If you think it’s that easy then every merchant in the world would have bought it off!" Gorvan said while letting out a hearty laugh, as he thought that Kenji’s words were a joke.

" I can’t buy dreadiron ore? Then how do I obtain it? By mining it? Would I even be allowed in?" Kenji asked, curious as to why this ore was so special. Was it really that strong?

" Yes, you won’t be allowed in, because the whole mining vein has already been taken over by a small group of bandits backed up by the crimson veil cult!"

It was like a bombshell being blasted on the Earth. The Crimson veil cult? Again?!

Kenji recalled that he had seen a quest about defeating their branch or so on the adventurers guild quest board, but he hadn’t taken it seriously, but now that he was hearing about the cult again from Gorvan, he began to wonder how notorious this group of cultist were.

" I had put a quest for defeating this rogue bandits, but it seemed like no one dared to tae on the quest since they were backed up by the likes of the crimson veil,"

" I’ll do it. I’ll get that ore for you. Actually, I’ll get you a lot of ores, as long as you make me an awesome weapon, I’ll do it!" Kenji said with a spark of determination that made Gorvan laugh out loud again.

" Young people...they know nothing about the trials of the world. But who am I to stop you? So here’s the deal; if you can get me even one dreadiron ore, I promise on my three hundred and fourteen years of living that I shall make you the best weapon my hands can craft and pay you back your six hundred gold coins with an interest of four hundred gold coins," Gorvan said with a mocking smile that seemed to disdain Kenji’s enthusiasm.

But Kenji ignored the look Gorvan was giving him and focused more on the reward.

A new and cool awesome weapon, along with one thousand gold coins? Ha! Only a fool would decline such a tempting offer!

" Alright! We’ll be back later with a lot of dreadiron ores!" Kenji said as he turned around and was about to leave, when Gorvan’s voice called him back.

" Baka! Do you even know where the mine vein is? I haven’t even told you the location and you start stroding off? It seems poor people really only think about gains," Gorvan said, mocking Kenji and shaking his head, as if he was feeling remorse for the poor.

Hearing this, Haruka immediately let out an uncontrollable chuckle and Kenji immediately gave her the death stare, shutting her up immediately.

He then turned back to the Calgroth," stop mocking people so carelessly! What if you mocking a really strong person and that person ends up beating you up?"

" Then that person would have the face the whole race of the Calgroth, for we Calgroth take pride in something else other than our blacksmithing skills, and that is our unity; one for all, and all for one," Gorvan said while beating his chest in pride, and making Kenji roll his eyes.

" Just tell me where the ore mine is located," Kenji said with an impatient gaze.

" The ore mine is located on the outskirts of town, a dungeon had recently popped up there also, so maybe you can add that to your quest of completion. That is if you actually think about challenging the dungeon. Anyways, just go a bit further from the dungeon’s location and you should see the mines, unless you’re actually blind," he said, another mocking smile on his face.

Kenji rolled his eyes once again and turned around to leave.

" Good luck adventurer, you’re going to need it, if you don’t die before then,"
