Chapter 96: Mutated
Chapter 96: Mutated
Rather than praise, Sally kicked him in the guts, He arched backward, coughing out blood.
"You stupid brat, I have tolerated your shit for far too long. I even went out of my way to bring you here when all your peers were against you." She pinched the bridge of her nose and looked at the ceiling.
She glanced at him lying down there. "What exactly did you do? The full details," she asked.
He immediately got up on his knees and began answering in a haste. "I took the blood pill and the barrier talisman I was given and headed to the cafeteria, then I caused a massive scene there and pulled a girl out.
The fight was to make sure everyone’s attention was far from me and focused there at the fight. I told the girl that I had a confession so she should come with me.
She followed me to the training yard where I force-fed her the pill," he explained.
"Shit, I can’t believe you would do something like that. I’m guessing the remaining part of your plan was to show me how good the demonized you have created is by locking her inside the training ground and having her fight one of the students," Sally said.
"Huh? But my own talisman is here. I didn’t use it. I decided it was best to let her roam free and cause havoc," he said, pulling out the talisman.
"If yours is still here, then who the hell set one in the training ground?" she asked, already losing her patience. She grabbed him by the beginning of his robe and slammed him into the wall again.
"There are two students trapped inside the barrier now with a demonized. One is the first-year rank one, and the second is the first-year rank five.
This is bad in every angle because those two have a high standing in the academy as the top first years. The academy will surely look into the matter.
I hope for your sake, and the sake of your family back home, that you don’t get caught, because if you do, I’ll be the one to personally kill them," she threatened, her voice oozing with bloodlust.
His eyes trembled with fear. She was terrifying—that was the simplest way to put it. But it was this demonic nature of hers that pulled him. Her sadistic side is what pulled him to her.
He was obsessed, so far gone that he didn’t care what happened as long as she looked his way.
"Their lives are meaningless to me, Lady Sally. You are all this world of mine needs, and as long as I get to have your eyes on me, everyone else can burn. They can all burn," he said, his eyes glowing with insanity.
"Sigh, I knew you were gone. I didn’t think you would be this far gone. Still, if our cards are played right, this situation you have created will help us more.
The only thing that is left now is to see how those two can handle the situation. And also, we have to find out who set the barrier. If they are someone secretly sent by the bishops, then it most likely is someone very strong who was asked to watch us," she said and walked to a table. She sat down and crossed her legs.
"Since you want to be a tool of my use so badly, then I will use you, and I’ll make sure your pathetic life has some meaning," she said.
[....]
Back at the training ground, Noel and Riven had been locked in an exchange with the girl for a few minutes now. Her attacks got heavier, her speed was higher, and she was continuously adapting as they fought.
But now they stood at a stalemate. She was transforming, turning into her final demonized form. Riven would have loved to kill her now that she was open, but the mana around her was like a sea of blades—it was chaotic and destructive.
If he wasn’t careful, he could get an injury beyond fixing, so he couldn’t risk it.
Her body twisted and contorted in all directions. Her size grew, skin turned black as her eyes reddened, spikes grew along her spinal cord and extended out to make a spiky tail.
Her claws extended a few inches and shined like black metal. She stood at eight feet tall, hunched over with a dog-like head.
The girl they had been fighting was gone. All that was left was the demonized. She let out a deafening roar, shaking the entire surrounding.
She charged at Riven first. Her speed was so fast his eye could barely follow. She struck with a full-powered slash.
And in that moment, the system sent a message:
[The one loved by chaos has been activated.]
"Oh shit," he cursed, managing to lift up his name before the hand hit. It slammed into him and sent him flying.
He flipped in the air and managed to land on his feet, but she was already on the move. Noel ran in, he intercepted her and thrust his sword toward her heart.
"Head up, bro! We have to take it down together!" Noel yelled. The demonized slashed at him. He parried it with all his strength and allowed the sword to slide down to the side.
His arms felt numb after just that one, but it wasn’t time for giving up. He planted his feet into the ground and swung as best as he could, but the demonized was far too nimble. It leaped backward and dodged the attack.
’There is no way we can fight this without mana. This being defeats us in everything pertaining to strength and the physical,’ Noel thought. But he wasn’t the only one, because Riven was having the same thought.
’This is not the time to be obedient—our lives matter more.’ He charged in again, running past Noel and leaping into the air. The demonized looked up and immediately tried to catch him, its hand moving like a snake striking.
"That’s not gonna happen," Riven said and used Flame Blast. He shot out the blast of fire, expecting that it would take out the hand, but to his shock and surprise, her hand was unscathed after the attack.
’What the hell? Did it just ignore my attack? No, that’s not right—the mana wasn’t dispersed, it was destroyed. I felt it.
This demonized—can it destroy magical attacks with its body? Shit, this isn’t good. It’s a mutated demonized.’ Riven came to a realization too late, and the demonized clawed his chest. He went flying through the air and slammed into the ground.
Noel turned and chased after Riven, wanting to see if he was fine, but the demonized was not going to let him. It chased after Noel and caught up instantly—and attacked.
Noel parried the slash, his bones almost breaking from the force, but he managed to do it. He immediately coated his blade with lightning and went for an upper slash, but as soon as the sword touched the skin of the demonized, the lightning vanished.
The blade cut into the skin deep, but not deep enough to hit anything vital. Filled with pain from the attack, the demonized slammed Noel away.
Those that were outside were shocked to see what was happening. When Riven’s attack had failed to do anything, they all thought it was simply a weak attack, but when Noel’s lightning vanished, they knew something was wrong.
"A mutated demonized... it’s been a while since I laid eyes on one," Quin said. He stood at the back of the crowd that had now gathered around the training room—students from all classes, first year all the way to third year, were here now.
Quin stood there along with four instructors: a bald-headed muscular man, a petite woman with brown hair, and a regal-looking man with silver hair and a sharp gaze.
"To think a demonized would show up in the academy... this isn’t good. We should put a stop to this," the man with silver hair said.
"I agree," Quin said, and the four of them began walking toward the barrier. The students cleared a path for them.
Quin walked to the barrier and placed his hand on it. He pressed against it, but nothing happened. He frowned a bit and then cracked a smile.
"This barrier is simple to destroy—but from the inside. All you have to do is strike the weak point, which is at the top of the dome.
But the person that made the barrier also made sure that those inside couldn’t see outside, so we can’t tell the students inside what to do," Quin said.
"Hmmm, that’s a real issue," the muscular man said.
"Quin, you can break it, right?" the lady asked.
"Yes, but that’s going to take some time—maybe ten minutes. Those kids are going to have to survive for that long," he said, looking forward. There was a smirk on his face.
