Chapter 127: Twenty seconds

Riven looked into the library, staring at the gate. He decided to just go in—he had to stop the demonized one way or the other.

"I wouldn’t do that if I were you," Arin spoke. She had a smile on her face.

"Even an instructor would die if he faced the ability of the demonized about to come out of this gate. You don’t stand a chance, Rank One," she said.

"It doesn’t matter. I have to stop you from opening the remaining gates," Riven said.

"Oh? So you know about the other gates? I’d like to know how you know about them, but for now, I’ll have to say goodbye," she said, and from the gate, the demonized came out.

A long black skinny hand stretched out of the gate. Its claws were several inches long.

"Bro, we have to go." Noel grabbed Riven by the shoulder and pulled him back.

"But the gate," Riven said.

"Screw the gate, you’ll die if you face those demonized," Noel said.

"But if we allow them, the entire area will turn into rubble," Riven said. He turned and pushed Noel. "Go tell everyone that demonized are coming. Get the instructors here as fast as you can. I’ll hold them off," Riven said.

"You can’t. I know you are strong, but this isn’t something you can win, Riven," Noel said.

But Riven flashed a smile. "Have I ever failed? You owe me, right? So now do what this junior brother asks and get help," Riven said.

The reluctance in Noel’s eyes was evident, but they were running out of time. "Arghhhh, if you die, I’ll kill you," Noel said and headed into the hallway.

"We have to go warn the academy," Noel said to the girls.

"You want to leave him here?" Liana asked.

"Riven said he would hold them back. I know it’s hard to believe, but he doesn’t lie, and I trust him. So let’s get going," Noel said and kept running.

Mia and Liana stared at Riven’s back as he stood in the library. The person they heard rumors about wasn’t there anymore—it was an entirely different person. They turned and ran as well, following Noel.

"You are really stupid, Rank One. Hahahahaha! You believe you can somehow stop an army of demonized? Your dreams are far too big," she said.

The demonized poured out of the gate, in all shapes and sizes. Their eyes locked on the target right in front of them.

Riven drew a deep breath and immediately summoned Inferno Domain. The domain spread out, covering a good part of the library. The moment the demonized got into the domain, their bodies started burning up.

Riven didn’t stop there. He summoned his golem to aid and then got into his stance. "Twenty seconds. I have twenty seconds to take down as many as I can," Riven said.

The golem rushed toward the demonized and began fighting, but it barely did anything before it was stomped to pieces by the demonized. After the golem was destroyed, they rushed toward Riven.

Riven activated his twenty seconds and rushed in as well. His sword exploded with deep blue flames, burning so hot due to the domain. He slashed upwards, releasing a massive flame arc.

It ripped through the ground and through the ceiling, cutting down four demonized in one motion.

He leveled up for each one he killed. On a normal day, he would be jumping with happiness at having leveled up, but now, he couldn’t focus on something like that.

He moved fast, attacking a demonized. It tried to slash him, but he dodged and cut its hand before proceeding to stab it in its eyes and killing it.

Another demonized rushed from behind. He leaped out of the way and used Flame Blast, hitting it right in the head and killing it. He landed and charged into another group, cutting down three more before they surrounded him.

He leaped out of the encirclement and retreated a few steps.

"I’m not doing enough. Ten seconds left," he said and charged in again. He cut through the demonized as fast as he could, but even then, he only managed to kill seven more in five seconds.

"Not enough, not enough," Riven muttered. He had five seconds left. He poured all his mana into one attack. He used Flame Blast—the flame fired, extremely massive—it obliterated the first demonized it touched on contact and exploded. The explosion was so massive the blast threw Riven out of the library.

His body slammed into the ground, rolled, and slammed into a wall. The twenty seconds finally came to an end, but he had done heavy damage. Yet, for some reason, the system didn’t level him up anymore.

[Creatures of that level will no longer level the user up.]

The system sent a message to him, explaining why he didn’t get any.

"Yeah, when I need to level up the most, it stops. Doesn’t matter though, I’ll keep going," Riven said and pushed himself up.

He stared at the door of the library, waiting for the demonized to come out. This was where the main battle started.

He opened the system to add his stat points.
