Chapter 113: Fight the new

"Now that the introductions are done, I’ll explain more about their status here. They won’t be part of the class rankings even if they are learning beside you; they are, in a way, special students.

That being said, since they will be staying in Class A, their actions will affect the rankings of the class, so let that be that.

Mister Grave, you’ll be the one to show them around, as you are the de facto leader of the class," Lily said.

Riven didn’t respond; he simply stared at them. The damage they caused to the academy was a lot, and if possible, he would stop it earlier, but he can’t.

The last time he caused a major change in the story by removing Mathias, something changed. He didn’t want to lose control of the story, so he had to be careful.

Sally went on to teach the class. She explained more about the spirit zone, and when she was done, she told them they would be presenting their progress the next day.

Class finally came to an end, and what followed was their break, which meant Riven had to show the new students around.

"Be careful, bro. Those three give me the chills," Noel said.

’You can’t imagine,’ Riven said in his mind.

"I’ll see you later," Mia said and left.

’I’ve only been in this academy for a week or so. How does Sally want me to show them around when I barely know about the academy myself?’ Riven wondered.

He got up and walked down, and the three were already there waiting for him. He got in front of them and introduced himself.

"Hey, I’m Riven Von Grave. I’m the rank one of the first years," he said. There was a polite smile on his face, but that was all.

"Hmmmm? You set their top? You sure don’t seem that strong," Blaze said. He came close and was sizing Riven up with his eyes.

"Blaze, if you judge strength based on physical appearances, then you still have a long way to go," Arin said. Then she looked at Riven.

"I’m sure that he is number one for a reason and wasn’t just put there. This is the Vermillion Royal Academy, after all," she said. Her words suggested that Riven had better be strong, because if he wasn’t, he would be defacing his kingdom as a whole.

"I think I’m strong. I wouldn’t say the strongest. There are lots of people in the academy that have unique strengths and might even be stronger than me in some aspects. I just managed to get ahead of them," Riven said, trying to be modest.

"Huh? Are you trying to be modest? It’s not really working—you just sound cocky," Blaze said, getting all close and personal with Riven.

"I’d like you to step back, Mister Blaze," Riven said with a calm face, but for a brief moment, he let out a cold bloodlust that forced Blaze to instinctively step back.

Blaze was someone that had killed a lot, so he recognized bloodlust. When he felt it from Riven, his danger signals started blaring.

"I’ve only been in the academy for a while, so I don’t really know anywhere. We’ll be learning about the academy together," Riven said.

"All that can wait. I’m curious—do you have somewhere that we can spar? Just now you showed me your bloodlust. I want to see if you actually have the skills to match it," Blaze said eagerly.

’This dude, just go get a rest already,’ Riven thought.

"I’m sorry, but I can’t. Our instructor asked us to not fight using mana at all, so I can’t battle you at full strength," Riven said.

"Hmm? That’s a weird rule to set up, but it doesn’t matter. I’ll also fight without mana, and let’s see who wins," Blaze said.

"There he goes again, wanting a fight wherever he goes," Arin said.

"It’s such a drag, but he won’t stop till he gets it," Legion said.

"Fine, I’ll fight you. We can use Class A’s training class," Riven said and walked out. He led them to the class, and they walked in.

"Raise a weapon from the racks and we can do this quick," Riven said.

"No, that isn’t fun. Why don’t we use our weapons? We are already not using mana; we should at least get to use our weapons," Blaze said.

"This is an illegal duel. I just want us to get it over with quick," Riven said.

"Don’t worry, this won’t waste any time," Blaze said. He took out two gauntlets. They were a fiery red color with black tips. He put them on and went into a very low stance.

Without a choice, Riven pulled out Twilight and got into his stance as well. The other two stood at the side and watched.

The air became tense as Riven and Blaze locked eyes. A few seconds passed and no one moved, until finally Blaze shot forward. His feet pushed against the ground and he rushed in, still managing to keep that low stance.

Riven watched carefully, until Blaze was within striking range, and then he slashed. But Blaze stopped and leaped into the air in one split second, avoiding the blade and coming at Riven with a punch.

’Smart, but not good enough,’ Riven thought. He stepped back while leaning back, dodging the blow. He twisted his feet immediately and slashed upward.

Blaze saw the slash and used his hands to block it, but the slash never hit. Rather, Riven used his leg and kicked Blaze right in the face, sending him flying.

Blaze flipped in the air and landed. A look of disbelief was on his face.

’He doesn’t fight in a conventional manner. His speed is nothing special, but he knows how to make the right movements,’ Blaze thought.

’Hmm, he is quite good. Though I’m sure he is holding back a lot, I wonder if I can keep up if he goes all out,’ Riven thought. The both of them got into their stance again, ready to go.
