An Extra's POV: My Three Fiancees Hate Me -
Chapter 100: Hit my head
Chapter 100: Hit my head
Riven took the entire day to rest up. Though the wound had been healed, his body was still fatigued. Noel had left a few hours ago, so now he lay on the bed alone.
The sound of the door opening reached his ears, but he didn’t pay attention to it until footsteps started getting close to him. He wondered who it could be.
His answer came soon after — it was Robert, Mia, Jack, and Chloe. He was shocked to see the four, but he tried to hide his surprise.
"Hmm, seems you’re still alive," Robert said. He folded his arms while he spoke.
"You came to see if the competition had died?" Jake asked.
"No. If you had died from something like that, it would have been an utter disgrace," Robert said.
"I guess you still have to try and get first place after all," Jake said.
"First place? I’m not really after that. The person destined to get it is Lance. All I want is to understand you, really," Robert said.
"Brother, that’s enough. He is trying to rest," Chloe said.
"Oh come on, he’s fully rested, but he wants to milk the time he has to rest," Robert said.
Jake looked at Jack. He could see some sadness hidden in his gaze. Jack turned and met his eyes. He opened his mouth but then closed it. He thought for a few more seconds before speaking again.
"Our duel, it’s still on. So heal up quick and let’s get it over with," he said and started walking away.
"I’ll make sure I kick your ass," Jake said, his lips curling up into a smile. Jack looked back at him, smirked, and left.
"We will be leaving as well. Didn’t have any plans on staying long. Oh, and I should inform you, normally rank one is the target of everyone, but now that you have shown what you are made of, certain people will come for you.
Normally, strength makes people take a step back, but it also makes a lot of people attack, because they believe if they can be the ones to land the blow, they will naturally become the new strongest. Be careful," Robert said and walked out.
Chloe gave Jake a smile and waved as she left, following behind her brother.
’That kid is built to be a king,’ Jake thought. He was about to relax again, but then he realized Mia was still here.
He turned. Their eyes met. She stared at him, but something was different—there was no condescending look in her eyes anymore. It was simply neutral.
"Mia, why are you still here?" he asked.
"I lost to you, so I’ll serve you for a week, agreed," she said.
"But you don’t need to do that..."
"I have said I will, so I will. Besides, the Runeblade family respects one thing above all, and that’s strength. Not only did you defeat me, you defeated a demonized.
It doesn’t matter what my feelings are towards you. The truth is that you are strong, strong enough for me to learn a thing or two from.
So I’ll take this opportunity to observe you, learning, so that the next time we clash, the outcome will be different." She finished speaking and sat down on the stool there.
’I forgot the other side to her character—the zealous Mia, the one that went out of her way to learn swordsmanship every day, pushing her everything.
One of the reasons she hated and despised most people was the fact that they attributed her success to talent and being a member of the Runeblade family,’ Riven thought. He glanced at her.
"If only they knew how much she swung her blade until her palms bled, until her body collapsed. Sure, she was talented, but she would not be close to where she is if she hadn’t done all that."
"I’m not sure I will be able to keep up with you, Mia," he said with a chuckle. She looked at him, confused as to what he meant.
"I can tell that you are a really hard worker. When we fought, you executed your moves perfectly. Even with talent, I believe it would take years and years of continuous training to have the type of skill you have.
I can only imagine how hard you worked. If I tried that, I’m sure I would break," he added, letting out a small laugh.
Her eyes widened when she heard that. She dropped her head immediately, as if trying to hide her face.
’This... this is the first time someone didn’t see my family name, but actually saw me. Is this the same trash of the Baron family? He has been proving everyone wrong since he came here.’
She looked up at him. "I’m very sure you work hard, if not harder than me. Your movements—they aren’t refined like many high nobles, but they seem built from experience and calculation.
It’s like you have your own style of sword fighting. Even when I watched the fight with the demonized, I felt the same thing.
No normal swordsman would throw their sword the way you did and risk not having a weapon. But you did it in a heartbeat, and you hit the target.
Tell me, if you’re the rumored trash and disrespectful son of the Grave family, why have I not seen you do anything bad?" she asked. "Or were they baseless rumors?"
’I guess this question is to be expected. Not that I can give her the real answer.’
"They aren’t baseless. I was genuinely trash, and a very stubborn child—refused to train, got into a lot of trouble, extremely rude to everyone. Or that was what I was told. I haven’t told anyone any of this, but I don’t have full memories of my past.
I got into an accident. I hit my head, and when I woke up, everything was a blur. My past was in shambles. I didn’t know much about what I had done in the past."
