Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night
Chapter 90: Annoyed Dave

Chapter 90: Annoyed Dave

Directing his gaze at her, Dave instinctively sighed in relief upon contact with her gaze. When she shifted her gaze towards his, he quickly averted it, his heart almost threatening to come out of his chest.

"Miss Charlotte, I thought you were over your childish days back when you frequented the mansion?" Suddenly, one of the Elders spoke up, facing Charlotte with a stern look.

"Right, I was...." Speaking up, she tried to explain herself but was cut off by the same Elder, not ready to listen to her excuse.

"Although you came as the future Luna’s escortee, you are well familiar with this pack’s rules and regulations, do we have to teach you again because you are a guest?" The Elder cornered her, rendering her speechless.

She frowned, wondering why the Elder was so annoying for making a mistake she was used to making back then. She knew how strict they were when it came to respecting the Alpha and their pack, but she didn’t come late for breakfast intentionally. She had woken up late and had to pick up her boyfriend’s call thereby leading to her being late.

Dave felt suffocated for an unknown reason seeing how Charlotte was at a disadvantage. In their pack, once the Alpha was seated in the dining room, no one else had the right to sit unless the Alpha said so. In most cases, if the Alpha hadn’t started eating, she wouldn’t have been considered late. But they were halfway through their meals so he could understand what the Elder was complaining about.

Charlotte looked at the Elder and sighed in defeat. Deciding not to give any excuse, she stated, "It wasn’t intentional nor childish," and then she moved closer to take her seat.

"You can’t sit until the Alpha says so, please leave the dining room." Just when she was about to sit, the Elder stopped her from doing so, causing everyone to direct their attention to the scene.

Though it was an offensive act, the Alpha wasn’t offended so he had no right to decide if she sat or not. Why was he so bent on scolding her for coming in late?

Unable to hold in his anger, Dave warned, "Elder Cross, the Alpha didn’t give his order. You have no right to tell her not to sit," his voice seemed impatient as he spoke, it was like he was forcing himself to hold back the words he wanted to say.

"Are you trying to justify her rude action?" Not backing down, Elder Cross questioned, his eyes blazing in annoyance.

"I am justifying the right and the wrong," Dave retorted, then turned to face Charlotte who was already getting nervous. "Sit!" He commanded, his voice slightly raised.

"I had better leave to..." cutting her off, he repeated, "Sit!"

Charlotte could feel the aura he was giving off and started fiddling with her hands, finding herself lost between listening to the Elder or Dave. To be honest, she contemplated coming to the dining room even after realizing she was late, but she didn’t expect to be so strictly scolded given that she was here as a future Luna’s guest.

"Alpha," not bothering to waste his time on Dave anymore since he knew the stubborn nature he had, Elder Cross faced Damien, finally seeking his say in the matter.

"Miss Charlotte, you might be a guest in this mansion but I am sure you know how it’s done in my pack. You can have your seat, but don’t expect to be left unpunished if it repeats itself." Calmly, Damien gave his judgment, earning him a look of surprise on some faces. Naturally, Damien would side with the Elders as he was that workaholic Alpha who cared more about rules rather than emotions.

As the Alpha, he was supposed to scold Charlotte instead of letting her off. Enoch was the least amused by Damien’s judgment as he had been noticing some slight changes in Damien’s act. It all amounts to the presence of a significant lady in his life but it was too soon to conclude.

Aurora couldn’t stop staring at him as this was the first time Damien was considerate publicly. Come to think of it, he didn’t seem annoyed about the whole ruckus and still took Charlotte’s side. She loved this side of him but she thought, ’Was it a temporary action?"

Coincidentally, their gazes met and she widened her eyes, embarrassed about meeting his gaze. Shyly, she blinked repeatedly and slowly averted her gaze, her heart beating so fast from the brief eye contact.

While she continued eating, she thought of the softness his eyes held and was somewhat relieved that he didn’t seem angry anymore. Could she be overthinking it and he wasn’t annoyed about what happened yesterday?

But her words were too much yesterday, Damien couldn’t have just brushed them off like that. What was he thinking?

"Beta, follow me!" Taking his stand, Damien ordered and swiftly left the dining room.

Charlotte was already seated and Dave seemed to regret bursting out earlier but he couldn’t let it go especially when it had to do with Charlotte, the woman he was beginning to like, or was it already love?

Noticing his furrowed brows, Charlotte kept her gaze glued on Dave, hoping to meet his gaze to understand what was happening. She didn’t expect him to speak up for her, because he hated her clumsy ways back then.

The Elders started leaving one by one until there were remaining, Dave, Charlotte, Aurora, and Theresa.

Things got awkward as no one moved to talk.

Breaking the awkwardness, "Since that’s all settled, I would be taking my leave now. Aurora, follow me." Theresa stood up and ordered Aurora.

Understanding what Theresa was doing, Aurora was quick to follow, leaving behind both of them.

Once again, the awkwardness filled the dining room and the only sounds were the clanging sounds of the spoon against the plate.

When the awkwardness grew unbearable, Charlotte spoke up, "I...Thanks for what you did back there." She expressed her gratitude, smiling sheepishly at him.

"It wasn’t for you. It could be anyone else who might have been wrongly scolded, I would have done the same."
