"Don’t you agree with me, huh?" The man’s question jolted her out of her thoughts.

She stuttered, "Yes, I... do," her response carried a hint of hesitation, she wasn’t entirely satisfied with his point. If there was one thing she had given up on, it was the idea of love. How could she genuinely affirm her accord with him?

"Thank you for lending an ear. Derrick’s the name," he introduced himself, offering his hand for a shake, which she reciprocated with a friendly smile.

"I am Aurora. Pleasure’s mine," she replied, both of them exchanging smiles.

"Could you please give us a moment?" Aurora politely requested, addressing Derrick.

"Now, care to explain?" Once Derrick was out of sight, Damien advanced further onto the balcony, his hands remaining dropped in his pockets.

"I have no explanations to offer. There’s no cause for any misunderstanding," she retorted, her tone firm.

Damien’s smirk deepened as he drew nearer, taunting, " Are you trying to provoke me by withholding what I desire most?" His words lacked the usual playful tone, instead, his gaze bore a severity that indicated a killing intent.

"Well, what you desire most isn’t something I possess," she shot back, unwavering in the face of his intensity. This wasn’t the first time she had been threatened by him, and she was prepared to face the consequences, provided they didn’t ruin her goals.

Who was he to label her as ’cheap’ with his initial comment? The rule forbidding her from associating with men was utterly absurd, especially when they always sought her out when she was alone.

"Aurora!" Damien’s voice boomed, his grip on her wrist firm as he drew her closer. His eyes emitted a clear sense of danger, and his strength alerted a warning to flee, yet she was determined not to go back to the naive girl she once was. She refused to be intimidated by him.

"You will always be my plaything, and my concern is written in the terms of our contract," he retorted.

Aurora scoffed and divulged, "Then I will persist in enjoying the company of men who view me as a woman, not a mere plaything. I am not yours to possess. As you stated, we are connected solely by a contract. Don’t invest excessive care in a plaything like me." A tear trickled down her cheek, catching Damien’s attention. He suddenly felt powerless beneath her tearful gaze, struggling to find words.

Observing his blank expression, Aurora’s concern grew. She pondered if her words had provoked too much storm in him.

"Dam..." She began, only to be silenced by a wave of his hand. She scolded herself for bothering to care about a man who failed to recognize her value. Even amid his actions that hurt her, she couldn’t help but care, a realization that felt foolish.

"You are comfortable sharing your past with another man, but not with me?" He posed the question abruptly, furrowing her brows. Had he been present for a while? Did he overhear her conversation with Derrick? Panic fluttered within her.

Staring back at him with tear-filled eyes, Aurora bore a hurtful expression and uttered, "I detest you."

With that declaration, she fled the balcony, leaving Damien behind. The tears she had tried to contain came out freely. He had essentially branded her as a harlot when all she aimed to do was console a heartbroken soul. Why was understanding her such a challenge for him? It seemed the focus always centered on him, and he rarely attempted to understand her.

Wiping her tears away, she navigated through the surprised crowd, whose murmurs filled the air.
