Chapter 85: Aurora

Knowing the type of man he was, she didn’t bother arguing with him and nodded her head in defeat, looking away from him.

"Actress of the year, Lola Jeffrey." The MCs announced, claps filling the crowd as they welcomed the actress on stage.

Aurora remembered the misunderstanding that arose about that actress and another and grew curious, stretching her head to see the face of the actress.

The actress was wearing a crop top with a bum shot that made Aurora frown, wondering why a woman would dress so indecently in public. She knew those actresses were always loved for their shape and look but why does she have to go naked for admirers?

"Thanks..." the actress gave her appreciation speech and left the stage promptly. Her speech was so modest that Aurora’s view about her began to change. That was why it was not good to judge a book by its cover, the actress had a meek attitude but an inappropriate dressing style.

"Why? Would you like one of those shorts?" Damien asked, teasing her, that brought her out of her thoughts.

"I wouldn’t wear such in public," Aurora answered, waving off the idea of dressing like that actress. During her training as Luna, she was never allowed to wear short gowns or skirts, she was always dressed in long gowns. And they were nice dresses with decent styles.

"Women who dress indecently are more sexy," Damien said, grabbing a glass of wine from the passing tray.

"Alpha Damien, I do not know what interests you in a woman but I do not like indecent dressing." With finality, she divulged, expressing her thoughts with a stern voice.

Damien chuckled that irked her, why was he chuckling when she was being serious?

"You look comfortable wearing the ones I picked," he teased, hinting at the old dresses he picked for her, and the one she was currently wearing. Remembering the naughty short dress he sent to her that night, she felt her anger rising again.

"I never wore any dress against my beliefs," she said, defending herself.

"Really?" Dropping his gaze wearily on her dress, he raised his brow questioningly at her.

Looking at her dress, she gritted her teeth realizing her dress was also not completely decent. It showed off a part on her bosom and if not because Damien was beside her, she wouldn’t be comfortable wearing it. It was strange how she felt safe in his hands despite the dangers that screamed about him.

"I had no choice," facing away, she replied not wanting him to see the embarrassed look on her face.

"Everyone has a choice," he answered casually, like she could decide not to wear the dress if she wanted.

"You don’t seek my opinion before doing anything. You decide and control me like a puppet, where is the choice?" Raising her voice a little, she retorted, sounding like she had been waiting to vent at him.

"You are sexy when furious. I would love to see this face everyday," he remarked, moving closer to her and dropping his mouth near her ears, "But we can’t do it here kitten, I don’t want others to see your red face." He whispered seductively, that made Aurora feel embarrassed, moving away from him with a glare.

Feeling satisfied with her reaction, he chuckled and gulped down the rest of the wine before handing over the glass to a nearby waiter.

Aurora cleared her throat and decided to not talk to him for the rest of the day, to avoid hearing dirty words. Who knew he was this shameless? For someone who hadn’t been with a woman before, he sure had a lot of dirty things to say.

"Best actress in a series for this year is Suzy Babadon." The host spoke up again, calling on another actress to come for her award.

The actress was wearing a simple short gown and a light make-up that made Aurora take a liking to her. Unlike the former actress, this was far better in dressing. The dress is sexy yet doesn’t show off her body.

"OMG, I did it. Give me the award," hastily, Suzy rushed toward the host and snatched the award rudely, which earned murmurs from the crowds.

"She is too cocky, I wonder how she made it this far!" Someone standing beside Aurora spat bitterly, glaring at Suzy in disgust.

Aurora swallowed hard, finding it hard to accept that a decently dressed person could be so rude. She was quick to judge again, and she felt suffocated and needed to breathe. Without knowing, she started walking away, toward an unknown direction.

Eventually, she found her way to a balcony in the hall, and finally released the breath she was holding. So many things were happening and they were partly all new to her. She had never been to an event this crowded, neither had she ever witnessed so many emotions from different people in a day.

How did she live her life that she was so oblivious to the world? If she had managed to be a social type, would things not have ended the way it did with Alpha Lucas?

But what could she do when her parents literally had her life shaped. They didn’t restrict her from pursuing her goals but they barely made her mingle with the worldly people. Could they be protecting her from the harsh world? ’Mother and father, what could you be hiding me from?’ She thought.

She took a deep breath and leaned against the wall, closing her eyes for a peaceful relaxation.

"Ohh beauty, are you in need of company?" Aurora was startled by the deep voice of a man. Looking at him, he was well built and handsome. He looked like a gentleman so she relaxed in his presence.

"No, I came here for fresh air." Answering, she smiled at him and looked away.

"Are you sending me away?" Moving closer, he asked in a very gentle manner.

"No, I wasn’t. I thought you were leaving?" She lied, not knowing what else to say. Truly she wanted him gone, and that was the only way she could have but it seemed like the man was here for a chitchat.

"Then I hope you do not mind my company?" He asked.

Hesitating, she looked at him before saying, "Sure."

The man moved closer into the balcony and sighed that caught Aurora’s attention. She wanted to know what was bothering him, but she didn’t want to pry so she kept mute.

"Have you ever been in love?" The man suddenly asked, taking Aurora aback. Why was he suddenly interested in her love life? It was a topic she never wanted to talk about with anyone.

Noticing her uneasiness, the man apologized, "Hey I am sorry. I didn’t mean to pry, I am just going through a lot right now." He sounded like he just got heartbroken and Aurora felt bad for him.

Changing her mind, she answered, "Yes, I have."

"I am happy for you, that man is lucky to have you." The man answered sincerely, sounding like someone who just lost his lover.

"Can I ask what happened?" Aurora carefully asked.

"I was going to propose to my woman today but she broke up with me before I could do it." The man confessed, sighing again and looking into the sky.

"I am sorry." She agonized, looking at him with an apologetic look, even though she wasn’t the one who broke his heart. She knew the feeling of being heartbroken better than anyone, so she felt sad for him.

"No it’s fine, I suspected she wasn’t in love with me but I wanted to believe she was. I was foolish for loving her when she didn’t," the man said.

"The foolish one is the person who broke your heart. You did good by loving her, but love can’t be forced. I learnt it the hard way," Aurora rebuked him, which surprised the man. She sounded like she had also been through a heartbreak.

"Were you also hurt?" The man asked.

Deciding it wouldn’t hurt to tell a stranger a little story from her past, "Yes, I was rejected by my mate." She revealed.

"Oh no, I am sorry. Here I am, being sorrowful not knowing my comforter had also been through a lot," the man recused himself.

"It’s not your fault it happened to me. Life could be cruel atimes," Aurora corrected, and offered him a warm smile.

"Right. To be honest, my mate also rejected me. I have been in so many relationships after her but they always dump me." The man disclosed that shocked Aurora.

She found it strange that he didn’t give up on love after being rejected by his mate. Why did he still keep on trying even after so many heartbreaks?

"I am stupid right?" The man asked, chuckling at Aurora’s dumbfounded reaction.

"No, I am surprised. You still believe in love," she said.

"Yes, I know someone is still out there for me and I won’t stop until I get her. Giving up on love wouldn’t restore all that I have lost, love is real." The man explained making Aurora think about her decision.

Had it been unwise of her to have given up on love? But how could she think about love, when the only people she had were killed brutally?
