Chapter 80: Eat you

Charlotte and Dave stood frozen, their gazes locked with intense emotion. After a while, Charlotte broke their eye contact, overcome with emotion, and began silently sobbing, too embarrassed to meet his eyes.

"I shouldn’t have come here. I thought I was completely over you," she said, still avoiding his gaze. The man she had loved for so long was finally expressing his feelings, but now she was already committed to someone else.

"I badly want you, Charlotte, and all I need is a go-ahead from you," Dave admitted, moving closer to her.

Taking a step back, Charlotte asked, "What do you mean?"

"Since that wedding day, I haven’t been able to get you out of my mind. Then you suddenly appeared, and all my thoughts revolved around you once again. I couldn’t help but want to kiss you back on that tree. I know I am being selfish, but can you leave Ronald? I would take care of your child as if it were my own!" Dave spoke rapidly, making promises and asking for Charlotte’s affection.

Charlotte couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Was Dave really asking her to be with him? And he had the audacity to ask her to leave Ronald, the man who had mended her broken heart and shown her true love, for someone like him? And what child was he talking about?

"Ronald was the one who healed the heart you broke. He showed me what true love means, and what? You want me to leave him for you?" She sneered, her eyes burning with anger. Leaving a good man for a man like Dave was out of the question.

"I... I can fix all my mistakes," Dave weakly offered, struggling to find the right words.

"There’s no mistake to fix, Dave! Look at yourself. You can’t stay committed, you are not over your ex-girlfriend, and you believe you can easily win people over just like you are trying to do now!" Charlotte lashed out, making him realize the gravity of his unchangeable flaws. He was a complete mess!

"You are just being selfish and pained because you can’t bear to see the woman whose heart you shattered find her own happiness," Charlotte added, accusing, finally releasing all her pent-up anger.

"I do want you to find happiness," Dave protested, running his hand through his hair in frustration.

He struggled to explain himself, but it seemed Charlotte wasn’t giving him a chance to talk. She must have bottled up all her feelings years ago to move on.

"Dave, you don’t know what you want. I would never leave Ronald for you," she declared, taking a step back, waiting for his response.

"So your answer is no?" He asked.

"My answer is no," she confirmed.

"Charlotte, you are right. I don’t deserve your love. I am sorry for being selfish. You won’t have to worry about me again," he apologized before leaving the room.

Once Dave was gone, Charlotte collapsed to the floor and wept bitterly. She had just rejected the man she had loved for so long, but she wasn’t sure if she had made a mistake.

Should she run after him and tell him she wanted to be with him too? But Dave hadn’t realized the extent of his mistakes or the pain and sorrow he had caused her all those years ago. He was too focused on his own pain, oblivious to the pain he had inflicted on others.

Stepping into the mansion again, she knew it would feel like walking into hell. Painful memories were stored here, memories she never planned on revisiting. She decided to leave the room and seek solace on her own.

In Aurora’s room, she stirred in her sleep, a satisfied smile forming on her face. As she opened her eyes and yawned, she realized she had just experienced the best nap of her life. The lockup wasn’t so terrible after all, except for the fact that her stomach was now grumbling.

A delicious aroma filled the air, leading her to meet Damien’s gaze, who seemed furious. Confused, she wondered why he was in her room and why he looked angry, especially when he was the one who had locked her up. Had he expected her to be dissatisfied with the confinement?

"Get up!" He ordered, his voice harsh and stern. Despite his anger, she didn’t care and had no intention of acting friendly with him either.

Obediently, she stood up from the bed and moved to stand beside him.

"Take a seat and eat," he gestured towards the chair beside her, his commanding tone still apparent. Without hesitation, she sat down and began to enjoy her meal. Damien seemed to have changed his mind about not giving her food, probably realizing she wouldn’t bend to his will.

Aurora indulged in the delicious dishes shamelessly, forgetting for a moment that she wasn’t alone in the room. Damien’s intense gaze remained fixed on her throughout, making her anxious.

She wondered if he had poisoned the food. However, knowing the sadistic nature of Damien, he probably found joy in watching people suffer, so he would opt for a slow torment rather than poison.

There was a knock on the door, and upon Aurora’s instruction, a burly man in casual attire entered the room.

"Did I give you permission to do so?" Damien bellowed at the guard, his glare menacing.

"It’s my room, he doesn’t need any permission," Aurora scoffed, refusing to be intimidated, and continued eating.

Damien gestured at the guard to come forward, and as he whispered something in Damien’s ear, a mischievous grin formed on Damien’s face. After dismissing the guard, his focus returned to Aurora.

"Would you like to eat one?" She teasingly offered a wing of chicken to provoke him into leaving her room.

"I want to eat something else," Damien replied with a mischievous grin, moving closer to her.

"What? Grapes?" She pretended not to understand the meaning in his words, redirecting her focus to her food. She cursed herself inwardly for trying to provoke him. Damien was skilled at teasing her and always managed to manipulate situations to his advantage.

"I want to eat you," he declared with a mischievous glint in his eyes, leaving Aurora fazed and unsure how to react.
