Chapter 68: Soft heart

Upon reaching their usual garden, Aurora discovered that Theresa was absent and decided to wait for her. She couldn’t help but wonder if her in-laws’ presence had caused Theresa’s absence, as it seemed like Theresa was expected to cater to the guests as the mistress of the house.

Furthermore, Aurora wondered if Theresa felt hurt knowing that Damien didn’t want to marry. Would Theresa be okay with her grandchild being born to a slave? Or was she just pretending to be fine for Damien’s sake?

"I am sorry darling," apologizing for being late, Theresa rushed into the garden, her face glistening with sweat.

"It’s alright," Aurora assured Theresa that she wasn’t bothered by the lateness. She could see that taking care of guests wasn’t an easy task.

"Who knew my mother-in-law would be so bothersome?" Complained Theresa, wiping off the sweat from her face in frustration.

Laura’s demands were high, and Theresa had to find people who could fulfill her wishes. Dealing with just a part of the west was already challenging, but Laura’s extravagance was beyond what a Lady of the west personality should be.

"If things get too busy for you, feel free to call for me," Aurora offered to help and served Theresa the tea brought by Theresa’s handmaiden.

"Thank you, Aurora," Theresa said, gratefully accepting the tea and sipping it hurriedly, showing her exhaustion from running errands.

"I wish I could receive your help, but my son wouldn’t allow it," Theresa said, shaking her head wearily. No one seemed to care about how she was managing everything, assuming she could handle it all on her own.

Even her usually caring youngest son was nowhere to be found, leaving Theresa wondering what was occupying his mind these days. What could Dave be dealing with that made him neglect her for days?

How she wished she already had a grandchild, she wouldn’t be this lonely.

Aurora sympathized with Theresa’s situation and could only feel sorry for her.

"Alright, back to work. Has there been any improvement so far?" Theresa changed the topic and brought out her jotting book.

"Yes, I didn’t panic for a while," Aurora replied, her face turning red at the memory of spending the night with Damien. It was unexpected but satisfying, Damien was gentle and considerate.

"I am so happy for you. This is why Therapy is an effective drug. It’s more about expression, and the moment you admit your problems, they start to reduce because you can identify them," Theresa explained, feeling proud of the progress she had made with Aurora so far.

"But I am afraid I might still be suffering from the trauma," Aurora admitted, expressing her concerns.

"Don’t worry, dear. Overcoming past traumas takes time. What you have achieved so far is endurance," Theresa reassured, smiling at Aurora’s innocence. She couldn’t expect to be completely healed in just a day. It doesn’t happen like that.

"Endurance?" Aurora repeated, confused by Theresa’s explanation.

"Yes, you allowed yourself to be intimate and enjoyed it without panicking. How did it feel to give in to your inner desire?" Theresa asked.

"It felt good," Aurora shyly muttered, blushing.

"Don’t be embarrassed. The next stage is physical training," Theresa said, standing up and removing her shoes before walking to the center of the garden.

Following her lead, Aurora also took off her shoes and joined Theresa in the garden.

"Extend your hands," Theresa instructed, stretching out her hands. Aurora hesitated, unsure of what they were about to do, but she trusted Theresa’s reassuring nod.

"Take a deep breath in and out," Theresa guided as they held hands and closed their eyes. Aurora followed the instructions, inhaling and exhaling, letting go of her worries.

"Now close your eyes," Theresa further directed, and Aurora complied.

"Imagine you and Damien on the dance floor, swaying happily to the tune of the music," Theresa’s voice was soothing, and Aurora started imagining the beautiful scene.

Aurora envisioned herself and Damien on the dance floor, immersed in each other’s company, and she couldn’t help but smile as she imagined the scene.

Damien appeared gentle and filled with love in his eyes, a side of him she had never witnessed before, making him look completely different. Could Damien have a soft spot in his heart no one knew about?

His smile warmed her heart, and the touch she imagined sent shivers down her skin. In her mind, she pictured herself resting on Damien’s chest, with him gently patting her head.

Suddenly, thoughts of her first dance with Lucas intruded, and she saw an image of him dancing with her. The memory was overwhelming, and she blacked out.

As Aurora opened her eyes, she found herself on the ground, panicking and struggling to catch her breath. Theresa quickly moved closer to her, offering reassurance and gently patting her back while whispering comforting words into her ears.

"He was there," Aurora muttered, tears welling up as she recounted the powerful memory. Her first dance with Lucas held a special place in her heart, as he had cared for her tenderly and never scolded her for missing some steps.

"Shh, it’s okay. He is not here, and you are not in danger," Theresa coaxed, continuing to pat Aurora’s back. The physical aspect of their therapy didn’t go as smoothly as Theresa had hoped, but it only meant that a stronger strategy was needed.

If Aurora had been with a man before, then there might be some experiences she had that could be useful for their therapy. Though Aurora appeared to be relatively inexperienced in relationships, Theresa believed there might be something valuable she could draw upon.

"Fetch some water!" Theresa ordered her maid to bring water and received it when the maid approached.

"Here, take this," Theresa handed the glass of water to Aurora and helped her up once she finished drinking.

"Let’s take a break for today. Take her to her room," Theresa instructed her handmaiden, deciding to end the session to allow Aurora to recuperate.

"Okay, Lady Theresa."
