Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 189: A secret weapon
Chapter 189: A secret weapon
Opening her eyelid slowly, Aurora sat up on the bed and looked around. Looking down at her body, she remembered what had occurred, and she immediately took to her feet when she couldn’t find Damien in the room.
They had just mated and he was supposed to be in bed with her, where could he have gone?
About walking up to Damien’s wardrobe for clothes, the door creaked open and Scarlet entered with a sullen expression. Both relieved and worried, Aurora walked up to her and started bombarding her with questions, causing Scarlet to yell at her.
"Aurora!! This is not the time to cling to Damien, we are at real war, and Damien is back to the frontlines of war. All he wants is for you to be safe in this room," Scarlet said, making her digest the situation even though it was vivid enough.
"So sitting here when Damien could die out there is what you also want?" Shaking her head at Scarlet in disbelief, she questioned, hating Scarlet for telling her to play the damsel in distress part.
"Then what do you suggest? Going out there and becoming a burden, therefore getting you and him killed?!" Raising her voice, Scarlet uttered and dragged Aurora to the window.
Screams were coming from outside, and it seemed like people were running away from something.
"I have to go, there should be a way to save these people." Staring pleadingly at Scarlet, she urged, almost tearing up.
Everything happening was because of her, sitting down and waiting it out felt suffocating.
"Your only help is whatever heir you bear for Damien, at least if he dies, the child remains and the pack survives." Scarlet retorted.
"Are you crazy? I do not care what you and the elders think, I will not let the man I love die because of me. Do you think I would be able to live with the guilt and not kill this child?" Dropping her hands on her stomach, she argued and yanked away her hand from Scarlet’s hold.
Dropping her head, Scarlet sighed and a minute later, she stated, "I knew it was going to end up like this, we leave once you are dressed." Giving up on convincing the obstinate Aurora.
Well, she never imagined succeeding but it seems the motherly instincts were not strong yet. She doesn’t even know if she is carrying a child already, but her concern is Damien.
"Thank you," Aurora expressed gratitude and went into Damien’s closet.
They soon left the pack house, which took a while because they had to leave the pack house in disguise. If the guards spot Aurora leaving the pack house, Damien would be informed and Aurora might end up being locked up.
Once that happens, there would be no way for her to help Aurora. And as much as she wanted that scenario, she knew what Aurora was capable of, and she wouldn’t want that.
"Okay, I don’t have a plan, what’s yours before we reach the border? That’s not a safe place to talk about a plan," as they neared the border, Scarlet inquired, stopping Aurora from going further.
"I need to talk to Lucas..." Knowing what her plan was, Scarlet immediately cut her off and scoffed.
"I meant your plan, not Lucas’s," she said, growing frustrated. This whole mess was because of her. If she was going to see Lucas, wouldn’t that solve everything? And wasn’t that the point, Lucas wanted her and he could seize the opportunity if she was alone with him.
"Trust me, if I am the poison, I can also be the antidote. We just need to distract Damien to get Lucas’s attention," Aurora insisted, holding her ground.
"And if you do get to him, what will you say to your crazy ex? Let my people go and stop terrorizing my boyfriend’s pack? That’s ridiculous. We are going home," Scarlet retorted, unwilling to entertain the idea any further as she began to head back to the pack house.
It was foolish of her to have agreed to help Aurora. What had she been expecting? That Aurora had some secret weapon... "I have a secret that can help us," Aurora revealed, cutting her off mid-thought, causing Scarlet’s eyes to widen in shock.
"You actually have a secret?" Suddenly intrigued, she turned back to Aurora.
"Yes, and that’s why I need to meet with Lucas to confirm it," Aurora replied, a confident smile forming on Scarlet’s face.
"Now that’s more like it. This secret better be deadly. Let’s go get you that audience," Scarlet agreed, convinced by the mysterious, yet trustworthy plan. If things went the other way, she would be forced to call upon Enoch if it wasn’t too late.
"Their men are stronger, Alpha Lucas. We have lost 100 men in an hour. If this continues, we will be defeated," Lucas’s beta reported, trying to persuade the Alpha, who seemed blind to reason and obsessed with victory.
"Then use the captives to threaten them," Lucas growled, grabbing his beta by the collar and glaring at him.
"The captives are fewer than twenty. It would be pointless," the beta countered, only to be sent sprawling by Lucas’s punch.
"You are my beta, and you will do as I say, or you die!" Lucas snarled. Even his men were rebelling against him, how much more could he bear the humiliation?
He was going to see to it that Damien’s head was brought to him or he gets it himself.
Grunting, the beta wiped the blood from his cheek, stood up, clenched his fist, and cooled off before turning back to Lucas. "With all due respect, Alpha, you are losing your mind. We might not be able to oppose you, but we can choose to leave. We are fighting a meaningless war over a woman, and it would be shameful to die for such a cause."
"Then I will kill you all myself if that gives it meaning," Lucas retorted, taking his beta by surprise.
"I..." Lucas’s beta started but was cut off.
"Alpha Lucas, a woman named Aurora seeks your audience."
