Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 173: Glimpse
Chapter 173: Glimpse
Damien was already done dressing up, and was now at the hall just a few distance away from the mansion. Luckily, the hall was in the new pack house territory so Damien was planning to declare it open in front of the guests.
"Alpha Damien, it’s been ages and your beauty hasn’t faded." A slender woman accompanied by a man whose hands were wrapped around hers said, giggling.
Damien never entertained women’s company but this woman was the wife of one of his partners, and was probably here in his stead, so he wouldn’t mind giggling away for a while.
"Same as yours Mrs. Candace," Damien answered and took her hands into his arms, dismissing the chauffeur.
"So how has it been since you came back?" The woman asked.
"As usual, it’s home so there isn’t much difference from when I left," Damien replied as descriptively as he could. He knew women always wanted more and if his answer was short, she was going to demand descriptions.
"I suppose you haven’t found your mate then," she said jokingly, but Damien knew she was mocking him. He was skilled at concealing his emotions, so he smiled and replied, "Who knows? She might be right around the corner."
The woman’s face lit up and she turned to face him with a curious look, wondering if he had already found his mate.
"What..." The rest of her words trailed off when Damien excused himself to attend to someone else, "See you around Mrs. Candace," he said and left.
With a patted mouth and stunned look, she stared at his back in disbelief, suddenly getting intrigued. If Damien had found his mate, they would have already been informed, as words were quick to spread when it was about him. He was the most decent of all the Alphas and always maintained his business rule, unlike the rest who would do anything for their goals.
It was possible her husband knew and forgot to tell her about it, but her husband wasn’t one to keep things from her.
"Alpha Damien," a familiar yet distant voice called, prompting Damien to turn his gaze toward the direction of the caller. At first, he was disappointed but then he couldn’t show his true emotions yet, not until he got the information he needed.
"Alpha Lucas, long time no see." Waking up to him, Damien greeted, stretching his hand out for a shake which Lucas received without hesitating.
"I must agree with that, you are still as handsome as you were," Lucas said, and chuckled.
"You are not the first person to say this," Damien joked back and they both busted into laughter.
"So tell me, how is life back at home? Is Theresa still demanding for a grandchild?" Lucas asked, indulging them both in a conversation.
"How did you know that?" Damien asked, though not surprised but curious.
"Come on, my last visit here was a fun one. I gave her a piece of friendly advice on what type of woman she should get for you," recalling the past, Lucas answered and picked up a glass of wine from the waiter passing by the tray.
"Oh, I thought as much. Well, she still hasn’t given up," Damien said, playing along with Lucas. He was itching to ask him about Aurora but he knew this wasn’t the perfect timing. To be honest, he didn’t care about Lucas’s reaction, he was just afraid of hearing what he didn’t want too.
What if Aurora turned out to be the bad one? What if it was her fault they split up and she lied? Those thoughts swirled in his mind, and he was afraid of hearing something that could ruin his relationship with Aurora. Yes, he wasn’t there in her past, but if she was one bit the unfaithful one, then he might have to make a big decision.
"Poor Theresa, if only your mate was here, she wouldn’t have to worry much." Lucas agonized.
"Right! I am sure she is happier than ever now," Damien said, causing Lucas’s eyebrow to furrow in confusion.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"See you after the event, excuse me." Damien just smiled, and walked away from him.
"We are starting the event, get Auro...Get Luna," waking up to the stage, he instructed one of the men standing on the stage, and corrected himself when he almost called Aurora’s name without her title. She wasn’t yet officially the Luna but he needed to respect her if he wanted others to respect her. After all, a leader leads by example.
"Yes Alpha," the man answered and left the hall to attend to his duty.
"Good afternoon distinguished guests, I am no stranger to you, it’s me Alpha Damien." Grabbing everyone’s attention, Damien started, introducing himself first.
"I know it’s been five years since I contacted any of you, but the reason for this event is to announce my return and introduce a very important person today." Saying that, murmurs went around the room, confusion evident all over their places as they wondered who the special person could be.
Has he gotten a mistress?
What is with the special person news?
It is going to be mind-blowing, it’s not every day you see him introducing someone.
"I want to apologize to our long-time acquaintances and business partners that we had to cut off due to an urgent reason. We have resumed our pack’s business and will now be accepting collaborations from other packs," he announced, earning a surprised and satisfied look from the crowd.
Though they were still gathering up all their territory here, they had always been powerful enough to support neighboring packs. Damien’s father was a Good Samaritan, he derived joy from helping others and he made Damien promise him that he would help other people after his death. Being too helpful was the main reason he died, you can never satisfy people, they complain about everything.
What is this? I smell victory!
Is he truly back for good?
Well, good for him, he looks like a lonely bachelor.
Gossip went around the crowd, some were filled with hatred while others were genuine concerns.
"I also want to use this opportunity..." his voice died down when he caught a glimpse of the most beautiful woman in the hall.
