Chapter 154: Coming in Vain

"You would need more strength to bear our son, werewolves kids are a handful," his voice startled her, making her widen her mouth in shock. Had he been awake all this time? And yet again, he was teasing her.

"What was with the fake act?" Unable to hold in her anger, she asked, clenching her fist.

"You woke me up, it wasn’t an act." He said, turning to lie on his side, looking at her like he wasn’t guilty of anything.

"It was. Do you know how hard it was for me to carry you?" She asked, glaring down at him.

"No, but your top is already telling me that," directing his gaze on her exposed shoulder, he remarked, chuckling.

Her top was barely hanging around her shoulder, thanks to having to carry this heavy man all the way here. What was more, she spent more of her strength trying to lay him properly.

Bringing up her top, she covered herself and straightened her top, moving to climb out of the bed but was suddenly thrown into a hard embrace. Gazing up, she met with his closed eyes, indicating he was falling asleep again.

"Let me go, you sneaky jerk!" She struggled, hitting against his chest in an attempt to escape.

"We could do this all night but unfortunately, I need to rest. Make your choice," he muttered, prompting her to look at him, thinking his eyes were now opened only to be disappointed.

"You don’t have to rest with me in your embrace," she insisted, still struggling against him.

"An Alpha needs his Luna, what is so bad about that?" He asked, his voice sounding indifferent like it was nothing special.

"Nothing, except I am not your Luna," she retorted.

"Doesn’t make any difference, you are the only one close to taking the position." He said.

"Whatever," she said, tired of arguing with him. He always won, so it was useless and she stopped struggling, lying still beside him.

A few moments later, Damien opened his eyes, to meet Aurora’s asleep body in his hold. She looked so beautiful that it was hard to get angry at her, even if she deserved it. That walk around the pack weighed him down, causing him to fall asleep.

Honestly, it was because it was her, that he could fall asleep. No matter how tired he was, he had never shown that side to anyone, not even Enoch. She was the first person to ever see him in this state, that exhausted state.

Thinking about the Phantom Hills, though he was disappointed they couldn’t go, they could save that for tomorrow, and she wouldn’t be able to escape him.

Tracing her face with his finger, he whispered, "What can I do with you?" And tightened his grip on her, closing his eyes to sleep again.

Meanwhile, Louis and Dave were yet to arrive at Alpha Nureo’s pack. Louis was so amazed to be in a car that he didn’t sleep throughout the journey until now.

They would have reached Alpha Nureo’s pack before now, but Louis was curious about the outside world as they drove, so he felt compelled to give him tours when necessary, thus their delay.

Louis was now sleeping with a variety of snacks on his body, some of which he liked and some of which he didn’t. Tapping on his shoulder, Dave woke him up and asked, "Wanna have some more tours?" Willingly to delay more because of him.

The boy was just so innocent that wasting their time felt worthy to him. Despite the danger of this outside world, he never showed any hint of fear, and was always ready to know more.

Groaning, he expressed his desire for sleep and promptly returned to the embrace of slumber, prompting a light chuckle from Dave. Opting not to disturb his rest further, Dave decided to proceed with their journey, heading down to the pack led by Alpha Nureo.

Upon reaching Alpha Nureo’s pack, the sun was gracefully setting, casting a warm glow over the guards stationed at the pack house. A tall and handsome man with inviting features, whom Dave vaguely recognized, approached them.

"Dave, I am Madrid, Alpha Nureo’s beta. It’s a pleasure to have you here. Unfortunately, no one can formally welcome you until sunrise," Madrid greeted warmly.

Understanding the situation, Dave responded, "I get it, we are the intruders. No worries, I won’t cause any trouble." He smiled at the beta, unable to shake off the comparison between Madrid and Enoch. Dave looked forward to discussing Madrid with Enoch and perhaps exaggerating some details, intending to challenge Enoch’s pride.

"Thanks for understanding. Let me guide you to your room... rooms," Madrid corrected himself, realizing Dave was accompanied by Louis.

"Alright," Dave replied, bringing the surprised Louis along as they followed Beta Madrid.

As they navigated the expansive surroundings, Louis whispered, "This place is enormous," marveling at the grandeur of the pack house. Compared to their home mansion, which was sizable but designed like a family residence, this place was adorned with steps, intricate interiors, and paintings that adorned the receiving room they had just departed.

"It’s still dark, you will see it better tomorrow morning," Dave hinted, winking at Louis.

"Wow," Louis uttered before they parted ways to their respective rooms.

"My room is just a short distance away. If you need anything, there’s a phone inside, use it to call me," Madrid informed them, turning to leave after receiving a nod from Dave.

"No, wait," Dave called out, scanning the corridors for something before hastily entering his room.

"Dave?" Madrid questioned, puzzled by the abrupt halt and Dave entering his room without stating his purpose. Wasn’t Dave going to ask him something?

"Sorry about that. Please come in, I have a few questions for you," Dave said, stepping out to allow Beta Madrid entry.

"Alright." Madrid, slightly taken aback, composed himself and entered the room.

Once inside, Dave wasted no time in getting to the point. "Beta Madrid, I would like to inquire about Alpha Nureo’s sister, Charlotte. Do you happen to know her whereabouts?"

Expecting this question, Madrid smiled and responded, "I was wondering why you truly came. It seems it’s for her." Dave, unsure of how to respond, looked away, too embarrassed to admit the truth. It seemed like both Beta’s derived joy in taunting him.

"Of course, she’s here. But I am afraid your visit might be in vain."
