Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 142: New contract
Chapter 142: New contract
Aurora gasped, shocked to find him in her room and taking care of her at that. She thought he was disgusted by her, and never wanted to see her again. What was he doing here, taking care of her?
"I...it is okay. Thanks," pulling away, she said, feeling uncomfortable under his care. She didn’t deserve the nice treatment he was giving her, it only made her feel more guilty.
She wished for him to scold her, lash at her, lock her up, and hurt her like he always did. The sudden affection worried her because she was used to temporary love. Lucas had shown her how cruel the heart of man was, she didn’t want to experience that again.
"My Luna has to look presentable," putting the tray aside, he said, meeting her stunned gaze. Was this man nuts? She just rejected their bond, what was he yapping on about her being Luna? She thought her message was clear enough, that she didn’t want to be his mate or become his Luna.
"I have no idea what you mean, I will get to work now." Ignoring his remark, she said and got out of bed, ready to walk out of the room, before her emotions betrayed her.
Suddenly, she felt strong arms wrapped around her, a familiar minted scent filling her nose. Absent-mindedly, she sighed in relief, inhaling the scent that comforted her. He smelt so...fresh, she wished to hug him. No! Snap out of it, you have no right to fantasize about him.
"Alpha, this is inappropriate." She lectured, struggling to pry herself off him, but his grip was harsh and strong on her.
"I don’t want to let go, not when you are in my reach." He whispered, his breath fanning against her neck, that made her gasp for breath.
"We shouldn’t be doing this, why are you doing this to me?" She asked, tears brimming out of her eyes. He affected her so much and he knew it, so he was torturing her for it. She yearned for his touch, his love, but she knew a price came with it. A price that would leave her heartbroken like the past.
"I should be asking you, why are you denying our bond?" He asked, his warm breath not doing any justice to her senses.
"Because I don’t...love you," she answered, halting in between her words, finding it hard to say she didn’t love him. Why? Does she love Damien? That was a question she had yet to get an answer to.
"Can you say it to my face? Tell me, you don’t love me," turning her body, he made her face him and raised her chin, so they were now facing each other. He could see traces of tears in her eyes and he hated it, he hated himself for making her cry. But he needed to know the truth, he needed to be sure she didn’t want him, because she didn’t love him.
"Now tell me Aurora, my patience has no limit." He urged, staring deep into her eyes with those obsidian-black eyes that she couldn’t resist. This was her mate, a hope she once dreamt of, but she couldn’t accept him because of a past mistake. Believing a man was her downfall, was she ready to take the same path again?
"I... I hate you," she lied, turning away and closing her eyes. Damien smirked, content with her response. She hadn’t explicitly denied loving him, and that was enough for him to understand that he wasn’t pressuring her.
"Why can’t you make an effort to love me?" He inquired, and she scoffed, lifting her head to meet his gaze.
"Men are dishonest, I don’t want to fall in love with someone who will eventually abandon me," she declared, leaving Damien momentarily speechless. Even though she hadn’t expected her words to be so direct, they accurately conveyed her current emotions.
"Aurora, I don’t know what your former mate has put you through, and I won’t sugarcoat things. I am Alpha Damien, see me for who I am, not as a replica of other men. I admit that I don’t understand much about women’s emotions, but it’s a two-way thing," he asserted, his words carrying a blend of power and passion. He wasn’t trying to sweet-talk her, instead, he was being straightforward. He genuinely knew little about women’s emotions.
"I still wouldn’t trust you for a mere position," she replied.
"You always have a choice," he stated.
"I have never had a choice," she replied, recalling the day she found out Lucas was her mate. He didn’t waste time and immediately came to her house to propose marriage. She was against it, fearing the life of living as Luna, but she had no choice as she was the hope of the pack and needed to accept the position.
Lucas’s mother made her feel wanted, and everyone, including her initially resistant parents, succumbed to Lucas’s words and convinced her. She had never gone against her parents because she believed they were always right, except for this one time when they were wrong.
Throughout her life, she dreamt of finding her mate in a humble man and settling down with him in the countryside. She wanted to farm all day and night with him until they were ready to start a family. However, she was forced onto a path she never dreamed of, and now she understood that one’s dreams were not always far from reality. It seemed hopeless to dream.
"What if you are given a choice?" He then asked, staring at her meaningfully, which made her frown. What does that mean?
"What do you mean?" she asked, carefully studying him.
"Remember? We haven’t finalized the annulment of our contract. What if you are allowed to change the rules?" He proposed.
"Change the rules?" She repeated, wondering what he was getting at. The rules were already troubling, what could be changed in them?
"Yes, let’s create a new contract," he suggested, flashing her a wicked smile that made her swallow in fear. When he looked at her that way, it never ended well.
"What’s it about?" She asked, taking the risk.
"First, you have to agree to accept the contract before I disclose the details?" He said, making her frown. Didn’t he just say she had a choice? Why was he imposing the contract on her? That cunning man!
As if sensing her thoughts, he chuckled and corrected, "Of course, you have a choice but in the contract’s arrangement." He said but she wasn’t convinced.
"That’s not a choice if I have to agree first," she retorted, pouting at him that made him want to kiss her lips. Oh, she had no idea how much he wanted to be inside of her.
"It is. Whether you accept the contract or not is not stated as a choice, because you would have to become Luna if you don’t accept the contract. So the choice lies in the contract," he said and she agreed. That sounded reasonable, unless she had a way to escape, the choice was in the contract.
"Why are you so sure that I won’t elope?" She asked, taunting him. She hated when he sounded so confident, especially when it was about her. He knew nothing about her and she wanted to remind him.
"Did you think the night you were unable to elope was a coincidence?" He asked, wearing an amused smile. He knew everything that went on in the mansion and was aware of her plans to escape that night. Of course, getting drugged wasn’t planned, he just happened to be unlucky, thanks to his mother.
He was going to allow the pack guards to handle her, but the effect of the drug drew him to her and he did the unforgettable. He hated himself at that time for taking advantage of a maid, but the thoughts of it sometimes made him yearn for her.
"You caused it?" She asked, wondering how he knew. He only just came that night, how did he figure out that she was planning to escape?
"You see, I was given the title workaholic alpha, for a reason. Nothing escapes my ears," she wanted to laugh at his remark, but she calmed herself and accused,
"Yet, you didn’t know I was dying until the last minute, you didn’t know I was being tortured to the brink of death until the very late hour." He could feel the pain in her voice as she said them.
"That was..." he started, then looked into her eyes before deciding to wave it off. She wouldn’t believe him, he had to prove it.
"You have the right to be angry, but I have no explanation to make." He answered and she just smiled. That smile didn’t look good to him.
"Fine, I agree to the contract. What are my choices?" She asked.
"It’s titled: Love or Freedom." He gave their contract a name and she almost busted into laughter. Such a befitting name.
