Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night
Chapter 132: Mates for a reason

Chapter 132: Mates for a reason

She had been expecting Aurora to be mad at her or yell after seeing her, but she didn’t and she was grateful for that even though she didn’t deserve it.

When they were both done crying, they let go of themselves and just stared into each other’s faces, so many emotions weighing in their minds. Aurora had a lot of questions to ask and Scarlet had a lot to tell Aurora.

"I missed you," Aurora confessed and hugged Scarlet once more, feeling her warmth again.

"You had better not let your possessive mate hear that," Scarlet joked and Aurora stiffened.

"What’s wrong," anxious, Scarlet released her from her embrace and looked into her eyes, wondering what could have gone wrong.

"I am not ready, I don’t want to have a mate." Knowing she couldn’t hide her feelings for long, she disclosed, feeling bad for Damien, the more she thought about it. Scarlet seemed to worry, but she quickly wore a smile and held Aurora’s hand, "I am ready to support your decision but have you told him?" She asked.

Nodding her head, Aurora replied.

"I just can’t bring myself to tell him, I feel so...guilty," finding the right word, she relayed, closing her eyes momentarily.

"Is this because of Lucas?" Trying to understand her, Scarlet asked after a moment of silence.

"Yes and No." She answered, confusing Scarlet.

"What do you mean?" She inquired.

"Yes, because I am afraid of being betrayed and dumped again. No, because I am not a she-wolf, I can’t be his Luna." As much as she tried to convince herself that it was because she hated Damien, the truth wasn’t far from her heart.

She knew well that being a Luna had a lot of requirements, and a human can’t lead a pack of werewolves with a fragile body like hers. Apart from her sharp senses and smell, she was useless and not fit to rule.

Damien needed his other half, someone powerful enough to rule. How was he going to do that with a mate like her?

"Did he tell you that? Do you think he cares about you being a wolf or not? I might not know much about him but the Alpha I know won’t abandon his mate for a pathetic reason. He had been ruling his pack before you came and there was no problem, he doesn’t need a strong Luna to rule. The reason we are bestowed with mates is because they make us see beyond what we are not. They are our second half, meaning, the other side of us that we didn’t know about." Scarlet rattled on, pouring some sense into Aurora’s mind.

She only just got to know that having a mate doesn’t mean having more power, it means being complete. Sometimes, power without love could be disastrous.

"Damien was always upright and a stickler of rules until he met you. He became soft and he did things he wouldn’t usually do, even towards his own family. Do you know how he treats his mother before? Even when he could have thrown her into prison for allowing them to torture you, he had her locked up instead. He has gotten soft and it is all because of you, he needed love not power." She added and managed to convince Aurora, but not completely.

Everything Scarlet said was right. He already had power, strength, and ability before she came but he didn’t know love. Though he was cold to her at the beginning, she noticed how soft and calm he became, when it came to her. He never hurt her physically and he made sure to provide her with all her needs.

Maybe, what he needed was a little push from her. If she could unlock the side of him beyond what he was, like Scarlet said, then everything was going to be alright. Sighing, she nodded her head in understanding and said, "I don’t know but I need time."

"There’s no rush, he doesn’t intend on pouncing on you, unless he has done that already." Hinting at something, she winked at Aurora and busted into laughter, when the latter widened her face in embarrassment.

Smacking her hand, Aurora scolded her, "Stop it."

"But no one is he...." As if remembering something, Scarlet exclaimed in shock and stalked towards the door.

Opening it, Louis fell on his butt, whimpering in pain from the sudden contact. He had been leaning against the door, finding himself curious about what they were saying, until the door suddenly flew open and he met himself on the floor.

Looking up, he met Scarlet’s cold gaze and swallowed in fear, scrambling to stand up. He didn’t know why but he was always shy to meet women’s gaze so he found her intimidating.

Without waiting for him to say anything, she held him by his arm and yanked him into the room, shutting the door harshly after him.

"Scarlet!" Aurora called, panicking when Scarlet pinned Louis against the wall.

"Why are you eavesdropping?" Glaring hard at him, she asked.

The young boy choked, finding it hard to breathe as she was suffocating him.

"I am listening?" She repeated but the young guy started tapping on her hand, reminding her that she was squeezing his neck and couldn’t answer her question.

"Oops," faking a concern, she released her hand and he fell to the ground.

Cough! The boy inhaled for air, hitting his chest to stabilize himself. He should stay away from her, he would never get used to her temper.

"Start talking?" Ignoring his struggles, she demanded.

"I...I just wanted to make sure you are fine, Damien ordered me to watch after you both." He said, lazily standing up.

"You could watch after us without eavesdropping," she wasn’t convinced.

"I am sorry, I didn’t mean to but I got curious about mates and leaned in to hear more." He confessed, looking away in shame that somewhat made him look cute.

"It’s fine, come in," Aurora said, reaching out to him. He looked between Aurora and Scarlet, afraid to move under Scarlet’s scrutiny.

"Scarlet," knowing what the problem was, Aurora urged and Scarlet walked away from him, prompting him to walk in.

"Let me see your neck, I think I saw an ointment earlier." She offered, standing up from the bed to tend to him. Scarlet wanted to know their relationship as it seemed like Damien and Aurora trusted him.

Could they have saved him from being bullied and he refused to leave them alone?

"How did you meet him?" Gazing at Aurora as she applied cream on his neck, she asked.

"Damien did, I woke up and saw him by our side. I guess only Damien can answer your question unless he...." Cutting her off, Scarlet said, "I don’t need him to tell me anything, I don’t trust witches." She refused.

The boy mouthed a silent ohh, realizing why she was so hostile to him, she thought he was a witch.

Aurora frowned, still bothered about the fact that Damien wouldn’t tell her how she got here. Something wasn’t right and she could feel it, she could remember dreaming about standing in a gentle and cloudy place, filled with people clad in white garments.

The last thing she remembered was the voice of Damien before waking up. Did she almost die or was it a dream? And if it was a dream, what sort of dream was that? Damien was lying and she was sure of that, what bothered her most was what happened back in those witches’ houses.

Speaking of Damien, where was he?

"Hmmm," Louis cleared his throat, jolting her out of her thoughts.

"Sorry," she gave an apologetic look, but the boy only nodded in response.

She tore a little part from the hem of her gown and tied it around his neck. Looking away, she found Scarlet staring outside the window, her gaze longing for something...someone.

"Thank you," not wanting to be strangled again, Louis said and immediately left the room. He decided to watch over them from a distance, so he stood five steps away from their room.

"It’s fine," Aurora said, but he had already left.

Shrugging, she walked up to Scarlet and nudged her.

"What are you thinking about?" Aurora asked.

"You know, just everything." She lied, faking a smile to back her lie.

She was thinking, no, worrying about Enoch. If they could truly have a new start, what was it going to be like? Would they be happy as they were from the beginning? Could she go back to loving him crazily like her old self?

Aurora knew she was lying, but she didn’t pry knowing how hard it could be when one was confused and sad. She just hoped whatever was bothering Scarlet wasn’t something beyond repair. She was going to try her best and help her best friend as much as possible.

"Everything would be alright," Aurora assured her.

"Let’s go eat," grabbing her wrist, Scarlet urged and Aurora was unable to protest before she got dragged away. She wanted to freshen up before eating but then again, who could go against Scarlet once she decided?

She was going to freshen up later, it was better to eat first.
