Alpha Damien's Breeder: The first night -
Chapter 112: A witness
Chapter 112: A witness
"You heard me, Jerk!" Scarlet cursed, expressing her irritation by hissing and rolling her eyes. It was unbelievable that he was feigning ignorance, despite being the all-knowing Alpha he claimed to be.
Even if he claimed to be busy, Enoch was there to oversee the mansion’s well-being. There was no excuse, he was undoubtedly lying. Unless, the perpetrators were wiser than their Alpha, which he would be too arrogant to acknowledge. Whatever the case could be, Scarlet wasn’t fully convinced that Damien didn’t know, or suspect something wrong was going on in the mansion.
"Scarlet, I need a full account of what’s happening. Who imprisoned Aurora? When did this happen? Is she alive?" He inquired, his fists clenched, imagining Aurora’s current state. He had sensed something amiss all along, uncertain if it was mere hunch or a genuine feeling.
For now, the only plausible explanation was that Aurora was his mate. How this connection existed remained unclear, but he vowed to find out upon his return to the mansion.
"How should I know? I found a bloodied paper while cleaning this morning, and it turned out to be a letter from Aurora. All I know is she’s in danger," Scarlet, realizing Damien’s genuine unawareness, maintained calmness for her friend’s sake. The priority was rescuing Aurora, the rest could wait. Moreover, Aurora wouldn’t want her arguing with Damien if she was present.
"Shit! I need you to do me a favor, secretly enter the courtroom and do not hang up the call. I want to know what’s going on," he ordered, annoying her, but she had no choice but to comply. She didn’t like being ordered around, especially by someone like Damien. She despised the idea of doing him a favor but as long as it wasn’t a favor beneficial to him, she could endure doing it.
She just hoped he was here in time to save Aurora. She didn’t want to imagine the atrocities they must have committed just to get rid of her.
’I will make sure you all pay for this,’ inwardly she thought.
"Okay," she replied and started making her way to the courtroom.
Damien mindlinked Enoch, thankfully he was not far from his office.
’Aurora is in danger, prepare a helicopter for flight. I need to leave now!’ As he said those words, he was already leaving his office.
’What? How do you know?’ Enoch was shocked. It wasn’t up to an hour since he left Damien’s office, how did he obtain that information?
’Scarlet called in, and she said Aurora is in danger. I don’t have many details, but I need to get back to the mansion now!’ He yelled, ignoring the faces staring at him as he made his way to the company’s main entrance.
His disheveled hair and stressed face attracted attention. It was rare to see their perfect CEO in that state, was he losing his composure?
Why is he in a hurry?
Gracious Lord, who would have thought we would see our CEO in this state?
Murmurs went around as he navigated his way through, but he ignored them, having only one person’s image in his mind.
’That will be arranged. I will be down in a minute to drive to the airport,’ Enoch relayed.
’That won’t be necessary, just drive to the airport. I am boarding a taxi.’ He answered.
’What? Alright," things were moving swiftly, and Enoch hoped Aurora wasn’t in a critical state. He knew Theresa was hiding something, and he was sure she wouldn’t escape punishment from Damien this time around.
Without wasting any more time, Enoch packed the necessities for the trip, including cash, aware Damien would need to pay the taxi fare. He got into his car and drove to the airport, arriving just as Damien was alighting from the taxi.
Enoch paid the taxi man, and they ventured into the airport together.
"Mr. Damien, I will be your pilot for today. It’s a pleasure to..." The greeting pilot was cut off.
"Skip the greetings. I want you on that helicopter now!" Damien ordered, walking past the pilot to enter the helicopter.
"I had suggested you take that advice," Enoch told the pilot, who, embarrassed, nodded and joined them for departure.
Arriving at the courtroom, tension filled the air as most people wore sour expressions.
Directing her gaze, Scarlet saw Theresa being watched over by guards, and Charlotte frowning in displeasure as she looked at something. Tracing her view, Scarlet gasped in shock when she saw what was on the floor.
Her heart raced, and she harbored a desire to confront whoever caused Aurora’s injuries. Aurora lay on the floor, alive but seemingly lifeless. A tear escaped Scarlet’s eye, her body trembling with fear for her friend’s fate if Damien arrived too late.
Fortunately, their eyes connected, and even in her distressed state, Aurora managed to smile at Scarlet. However, Scarlet felt the urge to scold Aurora for smiling instead of harboring resentment for being late. Her friend suffered under the same roof, unaware of her presence.
She didn’t deserve the title of a true friend for letting her endure such agony. Scarlet blamed herself for finding Aurora too late. Tears flowed incessantly, compelling her to step out of the courtroom to avoid detection.
"I am sorry, I can’t do this anymore." Bringing the phone close to her ear, she informed Damien before ending the call. Steeling herself, she reentered the courtroom, concealing herself between the walls.
"Alright. Everyone, as you all know, we gather here to punish a criminal. Today, we would be eliminating a dangerous criminal away from our society..." Elder Timotei was interrupted by murmurs challenging his statement. Theresa scoffed, casting a glare at him, questioning his audacity to tell a lie.
The audience, too, expressed their disdain at the sight of Aurora, finding it peculiar that such a petite woman could be a dangerous criminal. Moreover, nobody knew about it until she was tortured to this extent, raising suspicions.
"How come we are just getting to know about her?" A man from the audience asked, gaining support from the curious crowd.
"The said criminal is our Alpha’s woman; we didn’t want to humiliate our Alpha by making it public." Elder Timotei quickly provided an excuse that shocked yet convinced everyone. Sarah disliked the term ’Alpha’s woman,’ but she suppressed her displeasure.
"Was that why you ended up torturing her?" Another person questioned.
"Unfortunately, we had to torture because she wasn’t cooperating. A rogue attacked our future Luna under her order, and we were being careful." The last part garnered support from the crowd, enraged at the thought of someone harming their Luna.
Despicable woman!
What a witch!
She should be sentenced to death!
How could she hurt our Luna?
The crowd condemned Aurora, and the court favored Elder Timotei. Theresa locked eyes with him, understanding that she had to sentence Aurora to death now that the court was on his side.
Theresa smirked, responding with a menacing look, to avoid showing weakness.
"Shouldn’t we hear from her side first before we conclude?" Suddenly, a meek voice broke the murmurs in the courtroom. Everyone turned to where Charlotte was sitting.
Sarah frowned upon hearing her talk, regretting bringing Charlotte here due to fear of her playing another trick while they were away.
That is true
Let’s hear her talk first
While some deemed it unnecessary, others agreed with Charlotte, prompting Elder Timotei to approach Aurora on the floor.
"Miss Aurora, can you sit up? The crowd would love to hear your side of the story," he said.
Taking a deep breath, Aurora gathered herself and sat up, breathing shakily as she tried to balance.
Theresa gritted her teeth at Aurora’s gore-covered appearance, they had mercilessly tortured her. She was unable to call in her witness due to a foolish mistake, her handmaiden was nowhere to be found, and she was released only this morning.
"Now, Miss Aurora, what were you doing in the Alpha’s brother’s room?" Elder Timotei asked.
"I needed to convey some information," fortunately, she managed to speak. Some complained about not hearing her clearly, while others caught her words.
"What information?" Elder Timotei inquired further, leaving Aurora speechless. She could never disclose the contract between her and the Alpha, the only evidence that could save her. Why was her life so complicated? Just when she had the chance to speak, she feared tarnishing Damien’s reputation.
"I... I can’t disclose that," she answered and sighed in dejection. She felt doomed.
"Aurora, it is fine. You can say it out, trust me." Theresa, unable to contain her anger, stood up and reassured Aurora, offering a warm smile that almost convinced Aurora, if not for being left to rot in the dungeon.
"Can I truly trust you?" Aurora retorted, tears welling in her eyes as Theresa mentioned trust.
"Since our offender here has refused to talk, we shall call in our witness," Elder Timotei declared, nodding to a guard who soon brought in a large, hairy man who appeared to have been tortured but not as severely as Aurora. The guards seated him beside Aurora and left.
