Allure of a Country Maiden -
Chapter 375 - 373
Chapter 375: 373
Shangguan Xuanyi dismounted and took Xiao’er down from the horse as well.
Seeing them, Li Mingfang discarded all formalities and anxiously asked, "Shaowei was shot with an arrow. Do either of you, Sixth Prince or Lord of Rui’an County, have any medical supplies with you?"
Xiao’er fetched a small bottle from her pocket and poured out a pill. "Miss Li, put Brother Di down. Let me give him the medicine."
"Sure!" Li Mingfang carefully let Di Shaowei lean back on her.
"Let me do it," Shangguan Xuanyi reached out to take the pill from Xiao’er and fed it to Di Shaowei.
This lucky kid, having the great Sixth Prince lower himself to feed him the medicine. However, he’d rather do it himself than watch Xiao’er do it.
Xiao’er, oblivious to what he was thinking, took off a canteen from the horse and handed it to Shangguan Xuanyi.
Shangguan Xuanyi took the canteen and began pouring the water into Di Shaowei’s mouth.
The water suddenly flooded his windpipe, choking him into severe coughing. The poor guy was choked back to consciousness, which made his back injury hurt even more.
Regaining his composure, he complained, "Why does everyone want me dead so much? So now they’re trying to choke me to death?"
"I brought you back to consciousness!" Shangguan Xuanyi put away the canteen and stood up.
Di Shaowei: He was really grateful that he was awakened in such a unique way.
"How are you?" Li Mingfang relaxed a little when she saw that he was coherent and even joking.
"Much better." He could feel the pain from his wound slowly subsiding.
As Li Mingfang noticed his lips regaining their color, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Xiao’er reached out, brushing aside a lock of hair that had been blown astray. She then noticed a bit of sand had gotten into her hair.
"We should get out of this desert as soon as possible. Something about the skies doesn’t seem right."
But with only one horse, how could they...
As the gravely injured patient, Di Shaowei was obviously given the red-carpet treatment. So, he got to ride the horse.
Night was like a hobbled old man, slowly setting in...
They had not realized how far they had travelled. From where they stood, looking out into the distance, all they saw was the endless expanse of desert sand.
Xiao’er didn’t think it was the best idea to keep going like this. She had plenty of horses in her space, so why shouldn’t she conjure up some excuse to take one out and ride it!
"Um, you wait here for a bit. Nature calls. I’ll be right back," said Xiao’er before she dashed off.
Concerned for her safety, Shangguan Xuanyi originally wanted to follow her, but it was inappropriate to go with her on her personal matter. He could only remind her, "Don’t go too far. If anything happens, scream for help"!
"Got it."
The three of them stood waiting for Xiao’er.
"At this rate, how much longer till we reach the military camp?" Li Mingfang was now both hungry and thirsty.
"We should get there before sunrise." Shangguan Xuanyi glanced in the direction Xiao’er had gone, responding dispassionately.
"Is there any water left?" Noticing Li Mingfang’s lips were getting dry and cracked, Di Shaowei figured she must be dreadfully thirsty.
"What do you think?" Shangguan Xuanyi shot a glance at his stomach and retorted.
All the water in the canteen had gone into someone’s stomach. There was none left.
There was some in her space ring, but she couldn’t take it out; no other person could know about her space heretofore.
His face turned red, Di Shaowei wondered if it was due to excessive blood loss at that time, but he almost died of thirst then, and had finished up all the water in the canteen at once.
Riding on the horse, he was no longer thirsty, the pain in his wound had also subsided, but the other three persons must be really thirsty.
Xiao’er had been gone for quite a while, and Shangguan Xuanyi began to worry and decided, "I’ll go check and be right back."
The other two nodded in agreement.
As Shangguan Xuanyi went over and was approaching a big sand dune, he called out, "Girl, are you done yet?"
There was no response.
A sudden dread filled Shangguan Xuanyi.
"Girl, are you done?" He drew his sword stealthily and called out in the same tone as if she hadn’t heard him the first time and he was just repeating the question.
With his pace steady and unhurried, Shangguan Xuanyi moved closer as if he was measuring his steps with a ruler.
Just as his garments fluttered in the wind revealing the other side of the sand dune, an iron chain with a claw attached at the end lashed out at his face.
Shangguan Xuanyi sidestepped, avoiding the claw.
At the same time, he reached out to grab the iron chain and gave it an enormous yank, attempting to pull out the assailant.
But the aggressor was not to be underestimated. With a jolt of inner strength, a sudden pain shot through Shangguan Xuanyi’s palm, forcing him to momentarily loosen his grip, and the assailant retracted the chain.
Taking a step forward, Shangguan Xuanyi saw Xiao’er standing rigidly still, a man clad in red holding a sword against her neck.
Xiao’er, seeing Shangguan Xuanyi, rolled her eyes to indicate the horse by her side.
Was she paralyzed, with only her eyeballs able to move?
Understanding her message from her eye movement, Shangguan Xuanyi realized that this man must have discovered Xiao’er could conjure a horse from thin air.
"Order her to hand over the treasures she carries and I will spare her life!" The man in the red outfit spoke in the language of Xiyue, which Xiao’er couldn’t understand.
Shangguan Xuanyi, however, understood his words. Recognizing his attire and the belt, Shangguan Xuanyi guessed his identity.
It was rumored that the second prince of Xiyue nation loved red outfits, was skilled in martial arts, had a penchant for robbing tombs and hunting for treasures. But few knew about one of his weaknesses...
"Are you the Second Prince of Xiyue?"
No matter who he was, he was going to die today! He knew about the space ring Xiao’er possessed.
"You know my identity? That’s even better! Be wise and tell her to hand over her treasures! I will spare your lives!" The man known as Tengge was slightly surprised that Shangguan Xuanyi could identify him, but considered it an advantage.
Master Yunfa must have given the space treasure to her! How else could she have made a horse appear out of nowhere!
Upon hearing this, Shangguan Xuanyi smirked, "It’s of no use to you!"
"Why?" Tengge was puzzled.
"Because you’re about to become a corpse."
Upon hearing this, Tengge let out a great laugh, "Arrogant brat, let’s see who dies today!"
Shangguan Xuanyi smiled faintly and gently ran his finger over the space ring on his middle finger.
One by one, venomous snakes began to fall from the ring and moved towards Tengge.
Tengge’s face paled at the sight of the snakes. He had one weakness - he was afraid of snakes! But only a few people knew this, and he had killed them all.
Xiao’er, too, was startled upon seeing the snakes, but luckily as she couldn’t move and was standing with her back to Tengge, he didn’t notice her reaction.
