Allure of a Country Maiden -
Chapter 374 - 372
Chapter 374: 372
Yelu led more than twenty thousand soldiers and quickly entered the desert.
"Everyone, spread out." He swiftly gave the order.
Upon hearing this, the soldiers promptly divided into several groups and fled in all directions.
Li Mingfang pursued the group that Yelu was leading.
Yelu deliberately led Li Mingfang in a zigzag chase to confuse their original direction.
By the time Shangguan Xuanyi and Xiao’er caught up, neither Yelu’s nor Li Mingfang’s figures were to be seen, and they could only follow their footprints.
The wind gradually began to pick up...
Mounting their horses, they only seemed to be getting further away.
Gradually, as the wind grew stronger, the footprints left by Yelu and his men were instantly erased by the sand whipped up by the powerful gusts.
Nothing could be seen but a yellow fog formed of fine sand particles.
Yelu turned back and looked at Li Mingfang, revealing an enchanting smile.
A sudden sense of foreboding struck Li Mingfang. As predicted, her horse seemed to step into nothingness, and she immediately toppled down with her steed!
"Mingfang!" Di Shaowei yelled, and quickly sprinted, pulling her up with his Qinggong skills.
Several of her loyal followers who were trailing behind were not so fortunate.
Both they and their horses were instantly swallowed by quicksand.
Li Mingfang turned pale at the sight.
What’s happening?
Di Shaowei held her, "Let’s leave this place quickly!"
The desert in this area was too mysterious.
Also, the figures of Yelu and his soldiers had disappeared...
"But they..." Li Mingfang was staring at a pile of sand in the distance, as if nothing had happened just a moment ago.
"Do you think you can dig them out? Do your hands dig faster, or does the wind bury faster! If you don’t want to die here, let’s get moving!" Di Shaowei reprimanded angrily!
Li Mingfang had been stationed in the border town for several years. She knew that there was no chance of rescuing them and that it was extremely dangerous for her to stay here. If she continued to stay and try to save them, they could get killed as well. Her eyes immediately turned red.
She had unintentionally caused the death of several of them, the people who had accompanied her through life and death for many years!
"Do you know the way?" Seeing her in this state, Di Shaowei softened his tone and looked around. The original sand dunes had long disappeared.
In front of them were unfamiliar sand dunes, with billowing yellow sand fog around them.
Finding their way back to the military camp from the original sand dunes was no longer possible!
He was unfamiliar with deserts, and after what had just happened, did not dare to wander about blindly anymore.
After hearing his question, Li Mingfang began to look around, trying to find the direction back.
"Do you know the direction of the camp?" It was said that men had a stronger sense of direction, so there was a possibility that Di Shaowei knew. Li Mingfang asked grudgingly.
"I don’t know." Di Shaowei shrugged and shook his head. If he knew, he wouldn’t have asked her.
The numerous dunes that had been present just a moment ago were now gone. How could he find his way?
"Forget it, I knew I couldn’t rely on you." Li Mingfang was distressed.
This was the first time Di Shaowei had seen a desert, he was even less familiar with it than her.
Di Shaowei was feeling a mix of emotions inside. Finally, this woman needed his help, and at the critical moment, his sense of direction failed him.
But that’s the way things are in the desert. During a sandstorm, the landscape can change in the blink of an eye, making it difficult to distinguish between east, west, south, and north.
Even though he’d never seen a desert before, he had that much common sense.
Yelu and several of his soldiers retreated, hiding themselves with the cover of the sand fog and dunes.
Looking at their state, he chuckled coldly, realizing they were lost.
Heaven had a road that they refused to take, the entrance to hell wasn’t open yet they insisted on barging in, they couldn’t blame him for what happened next!
Yelu lifted his bow and arrow, a wicked smile lifting the corner of his mouth as he aimed his arrow at Li Mingfang’s vital part and launched it.
"Watch out!" Di Shaowei noticed something wrong, turned around, saw the incoming arrow, and immediately threw himself onto Li Mingfang to shield her, thus taking a hit himself.
"Shlurp!"
The distinctive sound of an arrow penetrating flesh rang out from Li Mingfang’s back.
She hurriedly turned around, only to see an arrow lodged in Di Shaowei’s back.
"Yelu, I’ll kill you!" Seeing a few figures disappear into the yellow sand, Li Mingfang wanted to follow.
"General, why don’t we take this opportunity to finish them off!"
"No need to waste more energy. You think they can survive this sandstorm and find their way out of the desert?!" Even if they didn’t leave, staying here amid the sandstorm would still be dangerous!
"Stop chasing! Haven’t you had enough? While the green hills last, there’ll be wood to burn!" Did Di Shaowei hold her back.
Why was she always so impulsive even after so many years?
Reaching out his hand to hold her, he pulled on his wound, causing Di Shaowei to grimace in pain.
Even though Di Shaowei’s words were blaming in nature, Li Mingfang didn’t start another argument this time.
She knew it was her impulsiveness and obstinacy that caused harm to him and everyone else.
"Help me pull the arrow out!" The arrow stuck in his back made him feel as if he had grown wings!
"Have you gone mad? Without a military doctor present, you will bleed non-stop!" Li Mingfang was both angry and anxious.
"Then what, keep it lodged in and wait for an infection? We don’t even know when we will be able to get out of here." Di Shaowei looked at the surrounding sand and felt helpless.
Upon hearing this, Li Mingfang’s eyes turned red. She was the cause of all this.
If it wasn’t for her insisting on pursuing them, he would not have been hit by the arrow, and they would not have ended up dead!
If he died here as well, what will she do?!
"Ok, I still have some medicine on me! Hurry and pull it out!" Seeing her expression, Di Shaowei couldn’t stand it and comforted her.
Only after hearing this did Li Mingfang calm down a little. She wasn’t new to removing arrows, so with swift movements, she pulled the arrow out, and blood gushed out.
"Where is the medicine! Hurry up!" Seeing the unstoppable blood flow, Li Mingfang exclaimed anxiously.
At her words, Di Shaowei forced a smile. What medicine? All the medicine he had brought was used to save lives!
He had forgotten to ask that girl for some on-hand medication! He thought, since she was at the camp, it was easy to get medicine if she needed it, right?
He thought he could just get it from her if needed.
Who knew he would be trapped and end up injured in the desert, Talk about bad luck!
"You dare to lie to me even at this point, are you human?!" Seeing his expression, Li Mingfang felt like slapping him. Uncontrolled bleeding could kill him! Didn’t he know that?!
She hurriedly ripped off her clothes to bandage his wound.
What should she do? What if they can’t make it out?!
Seeing her with a guilt-ridden and helpless expression, Di Shaowei comforted, "Once the stars appear at night, we can find our way relying on the Big Dipper. Then we can find our way back!"
Li Mingfang nodded. It was the only hope now.
When Shangguan Xuanyi and Xiao’er arrived, Di Shaowei had already fainted from significant blood loss.
With Di Shaowei on her back, Li Mingfang continued to move forward, despite the struggle.
"What happened to Brother Di?" Xiao’er hurriedly ran over.
