Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Mistaken Identity

Florence Fuller hung up the phone.

"The old man of the farm goes there to live sometimes when he’s free, plenty to eat and play with, so you won’t be bored," Luke Gardiner said.

Florence glanced at him, "Just drive your car."

"Tch~"

GS Dining House.

As soon as Luke’s car stopped, the valet approached. Florence got out of the car and saw a group of people waiting ahead.

She only recognized Christopher Somerset among them; the others seemed familiar but she wasn’t acquainted.

"Let’s go."

Luke gave her a glance.

The group saw Luke had brought his wife and exchanged puzzled looks, each with different expressions. As they approached, some of them looked at each other, one asked, "Luke, why did she... come along?"

She...

Florence raised an eyebrow and looked at Luke.

Luke didn’t look at her, "She wanted to come along herself."

Some people’s expressions changed.

Christopher frowned, "Weren’t you waiting for your wife to come yourself?"

Luke was silent.

"Since she’s here, let’s just go together," Edward Renfield greeted and thought about Christopher’s reference, "Sister-in-law... over here with us."

"Thank you." Florence smiled gracefully. She looked at Luke, who instinctively avoided her gaze. Florence quickly walked forward and hooked his arm.

Luke stiffened, meeting Florence’s shimmering eyes, "Honey."

Luke’s back stiffened, his arm aching; he wanted to shake off Florence’s hand, but she clung to his arm with both hands, secretly pinching him hard, her delicate face pleading, voice moving, "What’s wrong? You didn’t say that when we came."

Seeing the gazes from his friends, Luke struggled to maintain his composure, "You guys go ahead."

"Let’s go together." Florence said softly, holding Luke’s arm as they walked forward.

"What’s with the slap mark on Luke’s face?" Michael Archer knew Christopher and Luke had come from the golf club together, looking at the couple walking ahead, "Luke has never cared about his wife, why did he bring her along?"

"Ask him yourself."

"Impossible." Michael’s pupils widened, "Did his wife really hit him?"

Christopher laughed, "I saw it myself."

"Oh my!" Michael exclaimed.

"Easy, easy, easy..." Luke’s voice contained restraint as he pressed down on Florence’s hand, "Pulling and dragging in front of so many people looks bad."

Florence didn’t hold back.

For a moment, Luke’s expression twisted, secretly gritting his teeth.

"Hmph!" Florence released him, letting out a cold laugh.

All the way to the private room, Florence sat down casually, aware of the different looks from these people, but she didn’t care.

Taking a sip of tea to quell her inner anger, she was extremely annoyed with Luke.

Luke’s arm still hurt, seeing the woman beside him glaring at him even while sipping tea, he pulled Florence’s chair in annoyance, startling her as she glared at him through gritted teeth.

Christopher noticed Florence’s tight grip on the teacup, sensing that if not for so many people being present, she might’ve thrown the tea at Luke’s face.

Almost thinking she was going to fall, Luke even protected her briefly but felt guilty, meeting Florence’s gaze, he promptly sat upright.

"Let’s eat," Edward signaled the waiter to pass the menu to Florence, "Sister-in-law, take a look!"

As he called her sister-in-law, he watched Luke’s reaction!

No reaction.

Florence took the menu, glanced around at the seated people, and passed it to Luke, softly saying, "Why don’t you order?"

Luke took it, seeing her smiling brightly and softly, he coughed naturally, "Anything you want to eat?"

Florence smiled, "Whatever you order is fine."

Luke’s lips subtly lifted as he skillfully ordered several dishes, passing the menu to his friends.

The dishes came one after another, and they began chatting as they ate. Perhaps due to Florence’s presence, it was a bit reserved or restrained.

Florence didn’t join their chatting, quietly eating.

Only when asked directly did she respond softly.

The overall impression was gentle, beautiful, quiet, yet not overdone.

"Quite an appetite," Luke remarked seeing her finish two bowls of rice and now moving on to dessert, seemingly not particular about food. Yet she remained slender.

Florence ignored him, quietly eating the ice cream cake on her plate. Halfway through, the phone rang.

The crisp ring interrupted the table conversation, everyone searched for the source.

Luke kept his face unchanged as he pulled out the phone, glanced at the caller ID, and handed it to Florence beside him.

Florence took the phone, stood up with an apologetic smile, "I’ll take this call."

She exited the private room, everyone’s gaze falling on Luke.

Luke met his friends’ gaze, raised an eyebrow, "Why are you looking at me, am I something to snack on?"

"Bro," Daniel Knight said, thoroughly puzzled, "What’s going on here."

Luke, "What?"

"You and your wife usually act like strangers, why did you bring her to dinner?"

"Well, the old man wants us to build a relationship and have a kid," Luke said.

Edward smacked his tongue, "Gotta settle down."

"The old man hasn’t been well lately, have to keep in mind," Luke raised an eyebrow, "Besides, I want to have fun, who’s gonna stop me."

Outside in the corridor.

The call was from William Shenton, discussing the DN Dawn plan and thoughts on changing the management team.

Florence had no opinions, someone passed by and she glanced, replied on the phone, and then suddenly froze.

Without much thought, she quickly chased and grabbed the man’s arm, the man turned around, looking at her puzzlingly.

"Sorry." Florence’s gaze didn’t blink as she studied his face, "I mistook you for someone else."

She let go of his hand.

The man’s gaze lingered on her, but he said nothing, nodded and continued walking forward.

Florence watched the man’s back, his face somewhat similar, but his build and posture weren’t as robust as her memory.

"President Fuller? President Fuller?"

The voice called several times.

Florence snapped out of her thoughts, "I have no opinion, follow your plan."

"Alright. And regarding Amelia Gordon’s situation, I’ve informed her she won’t be renewing her contract, but she seems to disagree and has sought out Chairman Lane and Chairman Dawson."

"I know, ignore her."

"Okay."

After hanging up, Florence stood outside for a while before going back in, feeling this dinner event was about to wrap up. She entered with an apologetic smile, "Sorry everyone, I have urgent matters to attend to and must leave."

Luke already guessed it would be something like this, chuckled without comment.
