Chapter 501: Chapter 492: Finally Meeting

The small boat swayed gently; after all, it was somewhat cramped with more than ten people aboard at once.

There were no oars, though they weren’t needed. Once the rope was untied, the boat slowly drifted towards the center of the lake on its own.

"I never expected that deep underground, there could be a lake this big."

"The world is full of wonders."

"Lingxi, that little green-eyed creature led us here. Do you think this boat will lead us to find the gentlemen?"

Jiang Lingxi looked at the expectation on Changning’s face and smiled, nodding, "I think it’s possible."

"That’s great, we can finally reunite with the gentlemen."

Yun Yi was looking outside the boat, and when the flashlight beam shone out, he thought he was seeing things at first. After rubbing his eyes and looking again, he couldn’t help but exclaim, "Ah..."

Changning’s words were cut off by Yun Yi, "You..."

The rest of ’what are you shouting about’ got stuck in her throat when she saw what the flashlight revealed.

Of course, Jiang Lingxi noticed it too, "Hold on tight!"

As soon as she spoke those three words, the boat suddenly tilted with everyone aboard, swiftly following a newly appeared waterfall straight down.

Yun Yi’s scream echoed in their ears as the boat, together with everyone on it, landed with a "splash" in the pool below the waterfall, creating a huge splash.

Water quickly filled the inside of the boat; the startled group quickly jumped into the water without a word, using their tools to scoop out the water until it was almost dry, then climbed back onboard.

Once everything was settled, they finally had the mind to observe the surrounding environment.

Not far behind them was the waterfall they had just descended with the boat. Ahead was a towering black mountain wall, stretching upwards... seemingly supporting the ground above.

Jiang Lingxi was about to move the flashlight beam away from under the waterfall when a flicker of firelight caught her eye, pausing her movements.

This time, she adjusted the flashlight’s focus and shone it over again; not only did she see the firelight, but she also saw someone standing beside it.

Even though they were too far to make out the features, intuition told her it was Shen Yunqing!

They had really found them!

"Don’t row forward, row towards the waterfall."

"Ah, but it’s even more dangerous by the waterfall!"

"The person is behind the waterfall."

As Jiang Lingxi spoke, she shone the flashlight over there. Everyone followed the direction of the beam, and upon seeing it, they saw the firelight and the silhouette.

Changning’s spirit was instantly lifted, "Is it the gentleman?"

"Yes, it’s him."

"Quick, row over."

As they got closer to the waterfall, the resistance grew stronger.

Luckily, when they were still some distance away from the waterfall, a rope was thrown over from behind it. Jiang Lingxi quickly and deftly caught it.

With the help from the inside pulling, the small boat soon docked under a large rock.

Listening to the roaring sound of water overhead, Jiang Lingxi saw Shen Yunqing standing on the bank extending a hand towards her, and stood up to extend her hand in return.

As a pulling force came, she leapt forward, the combined momentum sending her directly into Shen Yunqing’s arms.

Noticing the person was about to embrace her, she quickly pushed him away, lifting her gaze to meet somewhat startled eyes, "I’m soaking wet."

Shen Yunqing chuckled, "Quickly, go by the fire to warm up."

The others also jumped onto the shore one by one.

Changning: "Sir."

Shen Yunqing nodded towards her, "Well done, it must have been a tough journey."

Changning immediately looked invigorated, waving her hand and shaking her head, "Not tough, not tough, following Lingxi along the way was quite thrilling."

Yun Yi also surveyed him; although he had lost count of how many times he’d heard Changning refer to someone as ’Sir’, this was the first time he saw the person himself.

And this person... Yun Yi considered himself quite talented and good-looking, yet now truly understood the meaning of feeling inadequate.

"Mr. Shen, hello, I’m the living map, no, the guide."

As for Xu Zhao and others who came last, Shen Yunqing had met him before, and they nodded to each other.

The bonfire in the center of the grand hall was blazing brightly.

However, as the newcomers entered, there was no time to warm themselves by the fire, as the sight within the grand hall left them momentarily stunned.

If nothing unexpected happened, this grand hall should be beneath the lake they had just drifted across.

Who would have thought that beneath that lake, there would be such a magnificent hall!

Jiang Lingxi took the towel handed to her by Shen Yunqing and went to the corner with Changning to change into dry clothes.

Luckily, the backpacks they carried were waterproof, designed to prevent omnipresent sand.

Despite being tossed in the water for so long, everything inside remained dry.

After changing clothes, she dried her hair and walked out from the tent, sitting cross-legged by the fire.

The towel she was using to dry her hair was suddenly pulled away from behind and replaced with a gentler touch.

Jiang Lingxi glanced back and, after a busy day, gladly accepted the service, "Why are you alone here, where are Wu Jue and the others?"

"They went to the Dark Hall to prepare."

"Dark Hall?"

"This place is the Ming Hall, while the Dark Hall is the one Yin Chong and others will enter."

"Is there any significance?"

The others, listening to their conversation, adopted an attentive posture as they warmed themselves by the fire.

"Entering through the rightful path leads you here, the Ming Hall. However, if you enter through the reverse path, you’ll reach the opposite Dark Hall. The spatial layout of both is almost identical, like a mirror."

Everyone nodded.

"Almost?" Jiang Lingxi mused, "So, there are differences? Not just in the names, right?"

"Yes, in the Dark Hall, Wu Jue discovered something which we speculate is the true objective of the Changcang Sect."

Jiang Lingxi didn’t ask further about what that thing was; no description could rival seeing it in person.

"How long have you been here?"

"Five days ago."

Jiang Lingxi calculated the time, "Then we really must thank that little green-eyed creature for leading us."

If it weren’t for its guidance, she reckoned it would have taken her about the same time to find this place.

"But what exactly is that little creature?"

"A Panren."

"A person?" This time, several exclamations emerged nearly simultaneously.

Even though they had never clearly seen the whole form of the little creature, its green eyes alone and... didn’t resemble a person at all!

"It was once a person."

Jiang Lingxi took a deep breath, "How much have you explored of this underground tomb?"

"About ninety percent." Shen Yunqing said as he draped the wet towel over a rack to dry, then stood up, walked over to a petrified tree desk, and picked up a few sheets of paper that had been preliminarily restored. He handed them to Jiang Lingxi, "There are three reasons why such a large tomb could be built here. The first should be something you’ve already seen, the petrified trees you passed when descending. The second is this area’s unique topography, and the third is its independent circulating water system."

"However, the true purpose of building this tomb was not for any person, but for a particular thing."

"The item that the Changcang Sect desires?"

"Exactly!"
