After Being Blackened All Over the Internet, I Ruled the Military Variety Shows -
Chapter 287: Need to Take Action Personally
Chapter 287: Chapter 287: Need to Take Action Personally
The makeup session took place in a large dressing room, with each guest assigned a makeup artist.
Having been on set for filming before, Jiang Lingxi had developed a habit of applying moisturizer, sunscreen, and primer every day. This time, she also applied her primer before heading out.
Now, she just needed the makeup artist to do a simple application of makeup.
The makeup artist was a bit nervous upon being assigned to Jiang Lingxi. Although Jiang Lingxi had come to the national station to record a show last time, she hadn’t even had time to enter the dressing room before. This was their first time working together.
Having heard rumors about Jiang Lingxi having a bad temper and being impatient, the makeup artist couldn’t help but feel nervous, casting envious glances at her colleagues assigned to the amateur guests.
Even being assigned to Mr. Jing would have been luckier for her!
"Ms. Jiang, what kind of makeup look would you like? Something light or more intense?"
Jiang Lingxi sat in front of the makeup mirror, just turning on her phone. Makeup was a rather boring task for her, especially for period dramas where the hair styling added at least another hour.
She couldn’t stand sitting there doing nothing for such a long time, but fortunately, smartphones were powerful, enough to pass the time watching shows, reading books, or playing games.
Glancing at the makeup artist waiting by her side, she noticed the nervousness hidden in the girl’s eyes.
Was she really that scary?
"Do as you see fit."
The makeup artist was taken aback for a moment, then quickly nodded, continuing to softly ask for her input, "The dress Ms. Jiang is wearing today has a light and gentle texture and is in a neutral color, suitable for a sheer and light makeup. Shall I base it on that?"
"Okay."
The makeup artist instantly breathed a sigh of relief.
Without having to be instructed on every detail and willing to listen to her advice, this was the kind of makeup subject makeup artists loved the most.
"I see Ms. Jiang has already applied primer, so I’ll go ahead and start applying makeup."
"Alright."
Even the hand holding the eyebrow pencil was steadier now.
Su Yi sat on the makeup stool next to Jiang Lingxi’s, glancing at the makeup artist assigned to her who was organizing the makeup case in front of her.
The small exquisite case was filled with bottles and jars of all sizes and various tools she had never seen before. Not knowing what to do with them on her face, she sat upright, stifling her nervousness.
This pair formed a stark contrast to the duo next to them.
After organizing the case, the makeup artist carefully looked at the face of the guest she was responsible for. Meeting the other’s intense gaze, Su Yi couldn’t help but hold her breath.
"Ms. Su, your skin is a bit dull and rough; it would be best to apply a mask for a quick fix. However, there’s not much time, so I’ll try to make some adjustments for you."
"I’ve never done skincare before. Just do what you see fit; thank you."
The makeup artist was taken aback, then smiled gently, "No worries, Ms. Su. No need to be nervous."
Su Cheng was sitting in a corner hugging his backpack, thinking about what to eat at the cafeteria later, when he overheard the conversation between his sister and the makeup artist. He looked at Teacher Jiang’s flawless face nearby and finally at the bottles and jars on the makeup table, a thoughtful look crossing his eyes.
Jing Huai didn’t take off the light tea-colored glasses perched on his nose until he sat down at the makeup table.
His makeup artist immediately noticed the faint dark circles under his eyes. His naturally pale complexion made the dark circles look all the more pronounced.
Jing Huai sensed the makeup artist’s gaze and smiled at the mirror, "I got absorbed in reading the script last night and stayed up late. I’ll have to trouble you to cover these dark circles."
"Of course, Mr. Jing. The script you’re working on must be very captivating; otherwise, you wouldn’t have lost track of time with it."
Seated next to Jing Huai was Lin Nuo, who subtly raised an eyebrow upon hearing the conversation.
This actor named Jing Huai either did not stay up late reading the script last night, or he was definitely drinking a lot. Drinking alcohol and then continuing to read the script?
Accused of plagiarism back in the day, his reputation had plummeted from a promising young artist to a universally scorned plagiarist. During that period, he had become discouraged and took to drinking, a habit he didn’t quit until Alin encouraged him to sober up.
Even though the strong scent of perfume masked the fermented smell coming from Jing Huai’s body, the alcoholic scent was something he was all too familiar with.
However, even though he suspected that Jing Huai was likely lying, he had no intention of exposing him.
They were from two different worlds originally, only crossing paths through this show. Once filming ended, they would once again go their separate ways.
Qian Yaya had the makeup artist create a cute cat-eye look for herself. As a high school student, she didn’t have the opportunity to wear makeup, so she took advantage of this chance for some fun.
Shen Huchen and Lu Sen both promptly called a halt when the makeup artists were about to apply eyeliner.
One waved his hand repeatedly, saying it wasn’t necessary to go to such trouble.
The other said outright that eyeliner would make him look like a girl and insisted on skipping it.
The two makeup artists had no choice but to put down the eyeliner pencil with a touch of regret, opting for colorless lip balm instead.
With a bit of time left after finishing their makeup, Su Cheng didn’t bother dragging his suddenly-transformed sister around for a closer look. Instead, the siblings rushed straight to the cafeteria.
Jing Huai originally wanted to go as well, but seeing that no one except the siblings from that remote area had moved, he silently stepped back from his plan.
It took Su Yi and Su Cheng less than twenty minutes to return with their stomachs full.
After everyone spent a little while longer in the dressing room, they received notification to head downstairs and depart.
A small bus was already parked at the front entrance of the TV station. As they exited and boarded the bus, they saw the director, who had disappeared for nearly an hour, waiting inside.
Chen Weiwen looked at the guests with a smile as they chose their seats and sat down. He then pointed to the cameras fixed inside the bus, "From now on, our show’s recording is officially starting. Are you all ready, our seven art and craft inheritors?"
The seven people, suddenly crowned with the title of art and craft inheritors: "..."
Most of them didn’t react immediately until Jing Huai, sitting toward the front, nodded toward the camera, "We’re ready. Director, you mentioned our destination this time is a studio. What kind of studio is it, and what are we going to do? Can you tell us now?"
Chen Weiwen immediately looked at Jing Huai, glancing at the other amateur guests who were still somewhat out of it. Internally, he sighed that when it came to variety show performance, the professionals were indeed the best—just one line and the cameras were rolling.
Maintaining an outward calm, he nodded, "Indeed, it’s time to reveal it. The studio we’re going to is quite special. Rather than calling it a studio, it’s more like an experience center. Oh, let me quiz you all—when you first started learning about art and craft, what did you begin with?"
Finally, coming to their senses, everyone pondered for a moment before responding.
Lin Nuo: "Renowned works?"
Lu Sen: "Our ancestors’ calligraphy and paintings."
Qian Yaya: "A meticulous fan surface my aunt gifted me. I was so fond of it that I pestered her to teach me."
...
Jiang Lingxi: "Brush, ink, paper, and inkstone."
Seeing the director’s smile deepen suddenly, Jing Huai felt a hint of unease.
"Haha, now I’ll reveal the secret. The studio we’re visiting is for you to witness the creation of art and craft tools—brush, ink, paper, inkstone, and even pigments—and learn how each is made, with all their different categories. After the tour, you’ll also get hands-on experience to actually create one of these items yourself!"
"After all, without these tools, how would there be any masterpieces that survive through the ages!"
