Accidental Marriage with the CEO: Unwanted Bride
Chapter 28: Stay away from Syres

Chapter 28: Stay away from Syres

The tension thickened as both men stood, staring at each other, unspoken words flickering in their gazes. For some reason, Patricia felt as though they knew each other from before but how could Syres possibly know someone as powerful as Roman? She glanced between them, sensing an argument brewing, and quickly stepped in.

"No. That’s not what happened, he’s just kidding," she said, forcing a smile as she grabbed Syres’s wrist.

Roman’s gaze dropped to her hand on Syres’s wrist, and something stirred within him. He knew he shouldn’t care who she chose to be with, but for some reason, he didn’t want it to be Syres. With his playboy reputation, Syres could easily be toying with her too. Not that it mattered to Roman but as long as Patricia remained connected to him, he didn’t want any scandal.

"This is how you repay me for the jacket?" Syres added, making things worse, his tone teasing like a child demanding candy.

"Will you please leave and stop making things worse?" Patricia pleaded, her eyes filled with desperation.

Smirking, Syres turned to Roman. Roman ignored him and said coolly, "Report back to work once you see the patient off." He began to walk away, Michelle trailing closely behind.

"I will text you," Syres called out before Roman disappeared around the corner. Syres knew exactly how much that statement would sting and he relished it. Roman could fool the world, but not the friend who had grown up with him for ten years.

"Leave," Patricia said firmly, tugging at Syres’s arm, though her efforts barely moved him.

"Make sure you respond to your messages," he said with a wink before finally exiting the hospital. Once he was gone, she returned to her desk and sat down, reflecting on what had just happened.

Thinking it over, she realized she owed Roman no explanation even if she was dating someone. He had made it clear she was his second wife, and that he would soon marry the woman he truly loved. So why did it matter who she dated? Why had she even tried to explain herself instead of simply walking past them?

"You fool," she muttered, scolding herself as she lightly hit her forehead with her palm.

Just then, her phone beeped. She rummaged through her bag and pulled it out, unlocking the screen to read the message.

’He is ready to hear your proposal. What will you do about Roman?’

It was from Zara, and Patricia’s face lit up. She had met the potential investor two weeks ago, and he had promised to reach out once he was ready, asking her to prepare a proposal in advance. Now that getting Roman to vouch for her was no longer an option, she needed to find another way to win the investor over.

There was only one person who could help her now: Kay. He was Roman’s assistant and knew the inner workings of Roman’s world better than anyone. He managed nearly everything, and he just might be able to help her craft the perfect proposal.

She exited Zara’s chat and searched for Kay’s number on iMessage. Once she found it, she tapped on it and sent him a message. A few minutes later, he replied:

’I will get it to you by tomorrow evening.’

She let out an excited scream, drawing the attention of nearby doctors, who looked over at her with disapproving frowns.

"I am so sorry," she quickly apologized, covering her mouth in embarrassment. Things were finally turning over for good and she wouldn’t be staying at Roman’s house much longer.

Finishing work early that day, she headed home. She only had a small snack at the hospital and hadn’t eaten anything else since. Making her way to the kitchen, she began preparing herself a healthy meal. It had been a long time since she cooked for herself, so she took her time, putting extra care into every detail.

As she cooked, she heard movement from outside, which meant Roman and Michelle must have returned. Assuming they would head upstairs as usual, she ignored the noise and stayed focused on her meal.

But then, unexpectedly, Roman walked into the kitchen and came toward her, catching her off guard. It almost seemed like he had been using the downstairs area more often since she started staying there.

She hesitated, unsure whether to greet him or ignore him, but he was clearly approaching her directly.

"Welcome back," she said, her tone cautious.

"Stay away from Syres," he said immediately.

"What?!" She blurted out, wondering if she had heard him correctly.

"Avoid all contact with Syres. If he’s still bothering you, I can have him banned from the hospital," he added firmly.

She let out a breath and shook her head, finding him completely unbelievable.

"Why do you care who I talk to? You shut me up when I tried to explain myself, and now you suddenly care?" she said, her mood shifting quickly. Why was he always trying to control her, to dictate her choices?

"I said that because we were at the hospital. And who you sleep with is none of my business, I..."

She cut him off. "Then why do you care if I talk to him? This is a loveless marriage. Neither of us owes the other loyalty. You don’t get to decide who I sleep with."

With that, she turned back to what she was doing, assuming he would leave as usual.

Roman stepped away, and she exhaled, relieved, only to suddenly feel a presence beside her. Before she could react, he grabbed her wrist, turned her toward him, and pressed her back against the counter, trapping her there as he gripped her wrist tightly.

"Let me go!" She yelled, struggling against his hold.

"You are mine," he said, his voice low and unwavering. "Whether or not you accept it doesn’t matter. You will always be mine unless I choose to let you go." His words hit her hard, making her hiccup in shock, stunned by the intensity of his declaration.
