A Serpent's Tale
Chapter 262: Platinum

Chapter 262: Platinum

"Does that really warrant a promotion to Platinum though?" I questioned.

"Absolutely! I’d love to place you even higher, but I fear that there would be immense backlash from other parties if I were to do such a thing, so Platinum is the best that I can do. Don’t worry, I’ll have your card made right away." He expressed his joy as he reassured me that I would get my card very soon.

"I just... Feel like this is a bit too much. I just registered and I’m already being promoted? Is this allowed?" I was still on edge about the whole thing. I don’t want to draw attention to myself and have eyes watching me all the time.

That would disrupt what I want to do and how I want to live.

"Don’t worry, we can keep this under wraps for you if you want. Actually, why did Berkez recommend you at Silver rank anyways? Given his prowess and judging abilities, he should’ve seen that you’re capable of much more than that."

"Oh, he didn’t recommend any rank for me, just to say that he recommended me when registering. He didn’t specify a rank."

"Oh really now?" He brought his hand up to his hairy chin and scratched it for a moment before whispering, "I’ll need to have a word with him later then."

But after that, he addressed me once more, explaining why he was raising my rank so high, "Anyways, I can’t not promote you after you took down a Superior Succubus of all things. If I only raise your rank to Gold people who know will be upset, but if I raise it to Diamond, they’d complain it’s too much. So, it has to be Platinum."

Seeing that I was still hesitant he went on, "Don’t worry, if you really want to keep this under wraps, we can say that you were registered as a Platinum rank. Some people might not be happy with that, but after hearing that Berkez took you down and you dealt with a Superior Succubus singlehandedly, they’ll accept it."

I still wasn’t okay with this this, but seeing how adamant he was about this, I knew I wouldn’t be able to refuse, so I just accepted his proposal.

"Sigh, fine... Who exactly are you by the way? I just realised I never got your name."

"Ah! Where are my manners. As I’m sure you’ve guessed, I’m the guild manager, and I used to be an Umbryllium ranked adventurer I retired a couple decades ago after I felt like my time had passed."

"My adventuring name was rather embarrassing, being called the fiery hairball, but my real name is actually Ba’arhim. And despite being way past my prime, I’m still as strong as your average Adamantium rank adventurer." He boasted as he flexed the muscles in his arms.

"Nice to meet you Ba’arhim, my name is Traytora Arizaraa." I returned the greeting with a much simpler introduction and less unnecessary details.

Ba’arhim then stood and made his way out the room, "Well, now that introductions are out of the way, let’s go and get your Platinum rank card, shall we?"

I had no choice but to follow along, and he actually took me to the place where the cards are actually made, which was actually quite interesting to be honest.

They got a card made from the material that matched the adventurer’s rank, which was about ten centimetres wide by about six and a half centimetres long and were only a millimetre thick.

Then there was the way the information on the card was actually laid out. It had two sides obviously, but only one was really used.

The side that could be considered ’the front’ had an image of the individual’s face on the left, something which my silver one didn’t actually have yet, probably since they didn’t have my image done yet.

And to the right of all that, was my information. At the top was my name, beneath that was my birth date, which was optional, I didn’t have to tell them that, it just helps me as it serves as a form of identification.

Beneath that, was the date I joined the guild, which was the four thousand two hundred and forty second year of the Lumerian era, on the Elunthar week in the month of Velarion the fourteenth of Terravyn.

And under all of that boring and quite frankly lengthy date, was where my class or role would be, which would either be a mage or a fighter or something along those lines.

There was also stuff that could be put on the back, like achievements or goals and such, but I decided to leave mine blank for the time being.

They took my current Silver card and placed a piece of paper on top of it, then brushed over it with an ink brush. They then took another brush and did the same thing on the Platinum card.

And through some magical means, the ink was imprinted onto the card. They then discarded my Silver one into a bin, which they said was to recycle it by cleaning it off and reusing it for someone else at a later time.

Which I thought was actually quite clever. It saved needing to get new materials, which for the rarer metals was actually quite good. And even for the more common metals it was a really good idea as it meant that the guild would be less likely to need to order more cards.

All that aside, once my information was all transferred, all they needed to do was get my image, and seeing as I was here, I might as well get it done.

They asked me to stand in front of a clear board as someone came and drew my face onto a piece of paper, which I assumed would go through the same process as my information did.

And after a little over half an hour, the artist was done. I took a look at myself in a mirror they handed and the portrait of myself and found that it was practically spot on.

With that decided, they put the image onto my card and now I was officially and completely registered as an adventurer!

Ba’arhim congratulated me on having the nicest looking card he’d ever seen, which meant that he was complimenting my looks, because the text on it was the same with all the other adventurer’s, and the only pretty thing on here was my face portrait.

"Thanks. I don’t get many genuine compliments like that."

"Really? With your beauty I’m shocked you aren’t sick of it already. I would’ve thought that you’d get things like that all the time." He expressed his shock as he walked me back out to the front of the guild.

"I don’t really like attention so I prefer it like this anyways." I expressed my comfort with this lifestyle and way of living.

"Well, I won’t cramp your style. You do you, and if you ever want to change your information, just come and ask, I’ll make sure you get it free of charge."

"Thanks. I might not need such a thing, nor will I be doing any adventuring anytime soon since school just started, but I appreciate the offer."

I thanked him for his kindness before we said our goodbyes to one another and he went back to his paper work, and I then proceeded to leave the guild to avoid anyone who might question me about what happened earlier.

Thankfully, it seemed that nobody really remembered what had happened. They all just seemed to be rather tired, which must have been a side effect of the magic used by that succubus.

Either way, I managed to get out without much fanfare, and with a new Platinum rank guild card.

I was now officially a fully-fledged adventurer.

It also gave me a nice form of identification if I ever needed it. It’s unlikely that I would, but it’s better safe than sorry.

With that over, I decided to go back over to the academy and relax a bit in the library they had there, which was much bigger than the one at the orphanage.

I got some lunch one my way back, some kebabs again. These street vendors know how to make such mouth-watering meat sticks.

When I arrived at the library. Still snacking on some extra kebabs that I bought, a few people gave me a weird look here and there but ultimately left me alone which I was thankful for.

I spent the rest of that day reading about combat and adventurers because that was what was on my mind right now.

When the school day was over, I went out the front and waited for Asty before heading back home.

When we got back, the two of us met up with David and Ash for dinner a couple hours later and we talked about our first day at school.
