Chapter 250: Magical Examination

Chapter 250: Magical Examination

The first part of the exam would be determining our magic capacity. They ranked this by colours, and the higher your colour, then the higher your capacity.

Said colours ranged from blue, which was the lowest, to gold, the highest. The way this worked was by asking us to imbue some of our mana into a specially made crystal ball that would display our capacity ranks.

The way that the colours of the crystal worked was it would start out white and change colours based upon your capacity, with the colour filling out the orb until it was full of that colour, and if your capacity was higher, then it would start changing to the next colour.

Asty went first as the youngest one here and when she did this examination, the orb nearly turned completely blue.

The mages here to help us with the rest of the examination applauded and cheered for her and her high capacity at her age. The rest of us cheered for her as well.

Then it was everyone else’s turn. Everyone else was much older and was easily able to reach blue level, but getting higher than that was the real test.

Two girls were barely able to get any green from the orb, but to be fair, they also did extremely well in the practical examination, second only to me if I recall.

Then a couple more girls got half green, then a full green, then another slight green. The girl that went after that got a quarter purple after that, which surprised everyone.

The instructors were extremely pleased with that as they all gave her nods of approval, which made her extremely happy.

Then there were four left, including myself. Another pair of greens, with slight traces of purple in them.

And then there was one girl left before I went. She went up to the pedestal where the orb was placed upon a cushion on top of and proceeded to pour her mana into the orb.

It slowly filled up with the colour blue, then green, and then, it was almost completely filled with the colour purple.

The instructors and the rest of our temporary class were in an uproar at her high mana capacity. And the girl seemed to be very smug about it, and fair enough, she has all the right to be smug about it.

She returned to our group with her head held high and then it was my turn to test my mana capacity.

I slithered my way over to the pedestal and took a deep breath before placing my hand over the crystal ball and began to imbue my mana into it.

Come to think of it, how exactly does this thing detect how much mana I have just by putting a little bit of mana in it anyways? Well, there’s no point in thinking about it now, or ever for that matter.

Anyways, I watched as my mana poured into the orb and for it to slowly turn blue, then green. Slowing down a bit as it started to change to purple, which shocked people.

But it didn’t end there, because once it turned fully purple, it started to turn red as well. And at that point, everyone just watched in shock as the colour red began invading the purple, slowly but surely until the orb was glowing a bright, dazzling red.

Everyone was too awestruck to say anything, even when I took my hand off as it showed no signs of turning gold and the colour disappeared and the crystal returned to its transparent state.

When I looked around at everyone and saw the disbelief on their faces I felt a little uncomfortable. The only one who wasn’t looking at me like that and was instead looking at me with admiration.

Asty.

She looked at me with a gaze filled with nothing but awe, respect and admiration, and even a little bit of desire. Likely she saw me as some sort of big sister by now and wanted to reach this level by the time she reaches my age.

As for everyone else though, they were still in a state of shock as they stared at me, eyes trembling as they tried to process what they just witnessed.

*Cough*

I coughed and they all shook their heads and got out of their stupor, but still stared at me with disbelief.

Until one of the mages came up to me and held my hands.

"This is amazing! We haven’t had someone with a full red colour in several centuries! We haven’t even gotten half that in that time either!" She cried out in excessive excitement and joy.

I just laughed and thanked her awkwardly as I made my way back to the others, who were also staring at me. Everyone was still making this uncomfortable for me.

But eventually one of the teachers here clapped her hands and got everyone’s attention off of me.

"Right, now that we’ve tested everyone’s mana capacity, it’s time to test the power of your spells. Please follow us to the training grounds."

Everyone then somewhat absentmindedly followed that teacher to the ground upon which we would be testing the potency of our magic.

It was a rather simple test, we just had to cast a [Fireball] into the air and they would asses the power of it for themselves.

Several girls went before me, and their [Fireball]’s were of varying size and capacity. Asty then went up next and hers was the weakest out of everyone’s, but that wasn’t surprising considering her age.

And then, it was my turn.

Needless to say, I blew everyone away as it was at least three times the size of the largest anyone else could make, and it was twice as powerful as it looked too.

Hell, even I was surprised as I’d only put about half effort into that at most. And the explosion was even enough to rock the ground we were standing on and even sear the roof of the Academy.

Everyone was once again in shock and awe of my power, but not quite as much as before.

The next thing they tested was our Affinity’s. This was done similarly to our mana capacity test, in that we had to touch an orb and imbue our mana into it.

Except we didn’t actually have to put our mana into it as the crystal ball would instead poke into us and read ours instead.

Everyone here had some affinity for fire, no one was interested in that though, it was the other elements that we were all interested in.

Even I was interested as there was one element that I still didn’t know about yet either.

The others went up and got things like water and wind, pretty standard stuff. One girl got light magic and Asty had Ice magic. Another girl got lightning magic also and then there was the one who got metal magic.

Oh, I should also mention that it only detects affinities that we have for certain elements at a certain level. If our affinity for it is lower than the minimum requirements, then it won’t show up.

Then it was my turn, and I was quite nervous, as everyone was watching to see what crazy stunt I would do this time.

But, I placed my hand onto the crystal orb and waited. I felt it poking into me and reading my mana and my affinities. And...

Nothing... Nothing happ-

*CRACK!*

The crystal ball suddenly cracked all over, nearly shattering as the fragments became a cloudy grey colour.

I quickly pulled my hand away from it but it stayed like that even then and showed no signs of changing back.

"I-I-I’m sorry. I-I didn’t mean-"

"It’s okay, we know you didn’t break it. This just means that it cannot read your affinities, which means that the one’s you have, are beyond its measuring capabilities, that’s all." The teacher explained in a calm and understanding tone.

She continued to console me because I still felt really bad about it, even when they brought out a new crystal ball for the other remaining examinees.

Eventually we went and di the remaining magical examinations, which included how we would use it for both general and survival use, to how we would use it in combat.

And that was what the mages were for, since they’d already done all of this. And they would be the one’s that would asses us for those parts.

The everyday part was simple enough and we were all able to do everything required easily enough within a few tries. We did things like cooking some meant, which we were allowed to eat after if we wanted, to boiling some water.

Also, the reason we were asked to do this specifically, was to see if we could survive on our own. If we ever had the need to. Be it in the wild or we were living alone.

Then the combat examination happened.

And I had my ass handed to me by an experience veteran mage who could also hold up well in a physical fight if needed.

But according to them, I did okay, I just needed to hone my edge and gain more experience fighting other’s or even just some wild beasts or monsters.

And after that, we were all asked to go home since todays exams were finally over.
