Chapter 1230: Ulterior Motive
"On top of that, he's also harboring a massive..."
Immortal Envoy Feng Tian abruptly caught himself before he could utter the word "secret". In his excitement at the prospect of Han Li's capture, he had almost let slip some very sensitive information.
Lu Chuanfeng didn't pry into the matter, merely smiling as he asked, "What do you plan to do with him, Immortal Envoy Feng Tian?"
"Detain him for now, Palace Master Lu. I'll make a decision once I've reported this matter to the Heavenly Court. You and I will surely be rewarded handsomely for the capture of such an important fugitive," Immortal Envoy Feng Tian said with an excited smile.
Lu Chuanfeng's expression remained unchanged upon hearing this, but internally, he was feeling rather disgruntled.
He was the sole contributor to Han Li's capture, yet Immortal Envoy Feng Tian had suddenly made it a two-man job.
On top of that, given his status in the Heavenly Court, most of the reward was most likely going to fall upon him.
Immortal Envoy Feng Tian could sense Lu Chuanfeng's dissatisfaction, but his smile remained unchanged as he said, "Make sure to keep a close eye on him, Palace Master Lu. I'm going to report this matter directly to the Heavenly Court through my communication array plate, and I must not be interrupted in the process."
Lu Chuanfeng nodded in response, and Immortal Envoy Feng Tian immediately sat down with his legs crossed, then flipped a hand over to produce a palm-sized, white jade plate.
He cast an incantation seal into the jade plate, and it rose up into the air on its own, following which all of the patterns on its surface lit up to form a series of runes that began to revolve rapidly over the array plate.
Immortal Envoy Feng Tian closed his eyes upon seeing this, then began to chant an incantation, and a ring-shaped rune surfaced over his glabella before projecting a beam of white light onto the array plate.
The array plate shuddered slightly as a burst of rippling light came proliferating out of it.
Right at this moment, the white light emanating from Han Li's body suddenly faded, and it was replaced by a layer of dark red light, accompanied by an eruption of incredibly formidable bloodline power.
Having been backed into a corner, Han Li had no choice but to channel his true spirit bloodlines in conjunction with his Heavenly Baleful Purgatory Arts, and he immediately began to take on his devilish deity form.
However, the glacial power that had infiltrated his body made the transformation extremely slow to complete.
A look of finality and resolve appeared in Han Li's eyes as he abandoned his protection of his own internal organs, releasing his Essence Fire Raven out of his body to melt away the layer of glacial ice to help him complete his transformation as soon as possible.
"Don't go causing trouble for me now," Lu Chuanfeng grumbled as he swept a sleeve through the air, releasing a blue talisman that fell upon Han Li's body.
In the instant that the talisman made contact with his body, his blood was instantly frozen solid in his veins. As a result, he was unable to channel his true spirit bloodlines any further, so all of his prior efforts were rendered null.
After being briefly distracted by Han Li, Lu Chuanfeng turned his attention back to Immortal Envoy Feng Tian to discover that a humanoid projection was already beginning to take shape on the jade array plate before him.
All of a sudden, a drop of blood essence flew out of the palm of Lu Chuanfeng's hand, forming a crimson rune as he slammed his hand down onto the top of Immortal Envoy Feng Tian's head.
A pillar of blue light erupted out of the palm of his hand, instantly filling Immortal Envoy Feng Tian's entire body.
Immortal Envoy Feng Tian's eyes sprang wide open as if he had just been struck by lightning, and his eyes were completely bloodshot, but strangely enough, the blood vessels in them were blue rather than red.
He opened his mouth slightly, but was unable to make any sound, and only a plume of blue mist escaped from between his lips.
In the next instant, his entire body was frozen solid, while the jade array plate in front of him had also been frozen solid, falling to the ground where it shattered into countless pieces.
Immediately thereafter, Lu Chuanfeng swept a sleeve through the air to conjure up a gust of fierce wind, and Immortal Envoy Feng Tian's body and nascent soul disintegrated into an icy, blue powder that spilled down onto the ground.
Lu Chuanfeng took a glance at the storage tools strewn all over the ground, but he displayed no intention of retrieving them. Instead, he swept his sleeve through the air once again, and all of the storage tools were encased in a layer of blue frost before also being reduced to icy powder.
All the while, Han Li was looking on in complete astonishment.
Immortal Lord Heavenly Star's betrayal had already been a shocking turn of events, and right as it appeared as if Immortal Envoy Feng Tian's luck had turned for the better, he had lost his life under even more astonishing circumstances!
What on earth is happening here?!
Before Han Li had a chance to make sense of the situation, a string of loud thumps rang out in succession throughout the Nine Origins Pavilion, and the dozen or so frozen figures around Han Li all exploded into icy, blue powder, just like Immortal Envoy Feng Tian.
In the end, Han Li was the only one left.
Even so, he was still in a state of despair. He knew better than to believe that Lu Chuanfeng was here to save him. If that were the case, then there would've been no need for Lu Chuanfeng to freeze him here.
Han Li had been frantically calling upon the vial spirit this entire time, but for some reason, he received no response.
Without the vial spirit's help, there was no way that he could escape.
Right as he was preparing to use some extreme methods to make a last-ditch effort to free himself, Lu Chuanfeng suddenly swept a sleeve through the air, releasing a burst of blue light that swept over Han Li's body like a whirlwind, melting away all of the ice around him.
A bewildered look appeared on Han Li's face, and he immediately withdrew his Essence Fire Raven into his body while simultaneously concealing his own aura.
"There's no need to be so cautious. Here in my spirit domain, no one will be able to detect your aura from the outside," Lu Chuanfeng reassured.
"You're from the Reincarnation Palace as well?" Han Li asked with a wary look in his eyes.
"You really are just as excessively cautious as the rumors say. That's right, I'm a member of a Reincarnation Palace, and I've been lurking in the Heavenly Court as a mole for countless years, but I've most definitely been exposed now," Lu Chuanfeng replied with a smile.
A hesitant look appeared in Han Li's eyes as he swept his gaze over the severely ravaged palace.
"If you have any questions, then feel free to ask me. There are some things that you're entitled to know," Lu Chuanfeng said in a nonchalant manner.
"Is this what the Reincarnation Palace has been plotting all this time? Surely this is way too much effort just to kill a Heavenly Court immortal envoy," Han Li said with tightly furrowed brows.
"Of course not. It would be a massive waste to expose both myself and Immortal Lord Heavenly Star just to kill that incompetent fool. This is just a part of the mission. The palace master has told me that you're to play no further part in the mission, so you don't need to know what happens next," Lu Chuanfeng replied.
Han Li's brows furrowed slightly in befuddlement upon hearing this. Why had the master of the Reincarnation Palace specifically mentioned him?
He chose not to articulate this question, instead asking, "How do we clean up this mess? Surely it won't be long before the Nine Origins Temple finds out what's happened here."
"Like I said earlier, no one can sense anything within my spirit domain from the outside, and I'm going to completely erase all signs of what happened here, so it'll take some time for the Nine Origins Temple to piece together what happened. In any case, they're supposed to find out. Otherwise, things are still not quite chaotic enough," Lu Chuanfeng replied.
In stark contrast with his usual modest and benevolent demeanor, he was looking much more casual and free-spirited.
With a flick of his wrist, he tossed an object at Han Li, who caught it after a brief hesitation to discover that it was the identity token of a Nine Origins Temple inner sect disciple.
"The identity of Chang Qi is no longer going to work, so you'll need to adopt a new one," Lu Chuanfeng instructed.
"Thank you, Senior," Han Li replied with a nod.
"Alright, you can go now," Lu Chuanfeng said with a dismissive wave, and it was as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders after shedding his disguise.
Han Li swiped a hand over his own face, and his facial features warped into those of an average-looking young man with a pair of long and narrow eyes.
His clothes also transformed into a daoist robe, and he strapped the identity token to his own waist, then cupped his fist toward Lu Chuanfeng in a parting salute before departing.
As he departed, he noticed that the powderized bodies of all of the cultivators in the palace were slowly fusing into Lu Chuanfeng's spirit domain, and that their auras were slowly fading away as well.
A hint of lingering fear flashed through his eyes upon seeing this. That could've easily been the same fate that he had been met with.
After leaving the Nine Origins Pavilion, Han Li began making his way toward a forest outside the plaza.
Shortly thereafter, a streak of white light erupted out of the Nine Origins Pavilion, and the entire building collapsed with a thunderous commotion, raising an enormous cloud of dust and debris.
