Chapter 46: Still in Love
Sophia swallowed her words and retreated.
She sighed out loud as she refitted the gown strand around her shoulder and walked to her fridge to take a can of energy drink.
Just as she was about closing the fridge, Kieran asked in a teasing manner, "I’m your guest... You won’t offer me some?"
Sophia shot him a momentary glance before opening the fridge again. While she was trying to get the drink, she said,
"Not my guest, but my new client." At that moment, she walked back with two cans. "You do call me a whore, don’t you? And whores always have male clients, not guests or lovers."
Then she gave Kieran a drink and sat on her pink sofa with a loud sigh.
Kieran, a hand on his waist, stared down at her for some moments. He then chuckled. "Now, you’re accusing me of many things."
"It’s what it is, bro," Sophia mumbled as she opened the can with a pop and gulped the down.
"Bro?" Kieran muttered as he sat on an opposite sofa. "Not Daddy anymore or baby? I must have—"
"Do you wanna fuck me because you like me or just for the fun of it?" Sophia interposed, glancing straight at Kieran.
He chuckled. "How so straightforward," he remarked, sipping the drink. After a few seconds, he then confessed, "If I were to really give you an answer, it would be neither of it."
"So... perhaps it’s not even fun for you. Maybe to distract your mind from a much more important thing," Sophia pressed more, and Kieran, seeing through her pretty well, smiled.
Leaning back in the seat, he replied, "Not that much important thing, but yes... You’re right. I only need you to pass the time, almost the same as last time." He didn’t hold back any words.
Sophia didn’t argue or say anything that might be out of being taken for granted... She moved from the sofa to the waste bin beside her fridge and dropped the can there.
Using a tissue to wipe the red lipstick off her lips, she turned at Kieran. And said, "You should leave now. My roommate will be home anytime soon..."
Kieran smirked. "You don’t want her to meet me here? Scared of being judged, huh?"
Sophia chuckled as she filled a glass from the tap. "Not even close."
When the glass was filled with water, she turned the tap off and took a straight gulp.
She exhaled. "She knows what I do to begin with. Just because you’ll make her uncomfortable while we aren’t even doing anything. It’s not worth it."
A slight smile masked Kieran’s face. "Are you hoping we do something then?"
"It doesn’t matter when you don’t feel a thing," Sophia bluntly replied as she washed the glass and placed it in the cabinet.
Kieran, relentless, pressed on, "But do people who do your business need to worry about that?"
Sophia sighed out of frustration, a hand clasping her cabinet and the other by her waist. She stared at Kieran.
"Wait... Why are you trying to work me up with your questions?"
Kieran rose from the sofa to the edge of the second one and leaned back on it. He replied, the distance between them not that much now, "You have been the one asking till now. I’m just not trying to make this moment awkward for us."
"Awkward?" Sophia imagined with a dry chuckle.
Kieran saw how hard she was trying to act nonchalant — she was so bad at it, though, unlike the Chairman, who tried to be confident.
No, he wasn’t even trying – he was definitely confident.
"Stop faking it as though you don’t care," Kieran remarked, which made Sophia even raise her brows at him.
"Come on, bro... I might have, but whenever I notice someone doesn’t have an interest in me anymore, I pull back," Sophia explained, which was a bad thing to do when trying to prove yourself right.
Kieran raised his brows, walked closer, and dropped the can in the bin. He locked eyes with her.
"You know why I said it was almost to distract myself last time too?" he interposed. "It’s because... Even though I called you just to make myself happy upon winning the folks in the empire over that day, one thing was for sure."
Sophia squared her shoulders, crossing her arms. "That I looked nice?"
Kieran hesitated, a silly smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He twirled his finger on the cabinet for a few seconds before asking, still with a slight smile, "How did you just read my mind?"
"Then what? Even if I looked nice... What changes?"
"That you’re the first woman to make me feel blessed and submissive the day I saw the true you," Kieran declared in a straightforward tone.
Even though Sophia for a second faked being tough, she failed at it. Her lips actually parted, and her arms loosened around themselves — she was taken aback by that statement.
She soon cleared her throat, lifted her chin up, and asked with an overwhelmed smile on her face.
"If what you said is right, that I am that attractive to you, then why the hesitation?"
Kieran turned his glance away as he walked back to the sofa where his shirt was, and he put it back on. Sophia walked closer and helped him with the buttons.
When done, Kieran replied to her question, "My ex-girlfriend. It’s because I still love her. That’s why i left you that day too."
Sophia raised her brows; this time, she was unaffected by the words. She asked him, "Is she playing hard to get now, or what?"
"She has every right to, actually," Kieran noted. "I broke the relationship up years ago, and she was really affected by it."
Sophia frowned, watching him as she leaned back on the sofa. He broke up and is still in love? There must have been a reason.
"Why? Why did you break up with her?"
