Chapter 34: Maytender Constructions
Chapter 34: Maytender Constructions
Inside the spacious main lounge of the penthouse were Kieran and Jaxon, each having a wine as they sat in silence. Jaxon had just dealt with his previous boss over a long hour of call, tightening all ends such that he was officially out of the company and also would receive his last salary.
They had a tight conversation, so Kieran knew more than to let him rest.
No more sugar to the over-sweet tea.
But Jaxon broke the silence with a sigh. Kieran glanced at him and asked with a slightly teasing chuckle,
"Get over with it, you lazy brat. Imagine not even fucking that beautiful woman before you submitted your resignation letter..."
Jaxon stared at him for a few seconds with an expression ... What a pathetic guy, a slight smile dancing on his face. He shook his head and while he did that, Kieran burst into laughter.
Not talking about that anymore, Jaxon sighed again. Then he mumbled, glancing at Kieran, "You know what I had in mind hearing those girls’ sad story and seeing them again at the restaurant recently? They seem quite... loosen away from each other.
Friends, but this sparkle between them is undeniably gone. I even stalked them down to the first floor yesterday — they had a few discussions that seemed like an argument before going their separate ways."
Kieran raised his brows. "The more slender one literally attempted killing their other friend back then, the one whose Mrs Jackson’s men finally wasted... So it’s expected that the purple-haired one loathes her now. Trust? Love? All those are definitely gone, saving the space for hatred. They can’t make up quickly without a third party coming in to resolve things, trust me."
The both of them looked at each other for a while with a knowing stare, as though one was aware of what the other had in mind.
Finally, Kieran shook his head profusely. "No, no... You can’t. Let someone else handle it... Maybe Amanda or even Mrs Ana, since she’s a mother."
Jaxon leaned back in the couch, and swallowed down hard. The liveliness in his eyes got replaced by a surreal bitterness, one that Kieran himself knew so well about.
Taking a final sip of the red wine and placing the cup back on the side table, Kieran rose from the couch. Then he grabbed his overcoat and held Jaxon’s shoulder with a consoling gaze, assuring him,
"Don’t worry, pal. You’ll just be fine. It has happened in the past, and can’t trap you anymore."
Jaxon gave him a smile that faded in the next second. Kieran then walked down towards the door while a maid appeared to help him with the coat. He told Jaxon he had to be somewhere and would be back probably at night... Together with...
"If you still feel down by then, maybe that’s a sign we need some hoes.
Jaxon had chuckled that off. "Shut up, pathetic mofo."
As Kieran disappeared through the door, Jaxon leaned forward, resting his ankles on his thighs and burying his face in his palms with a sharp exhalation. Soon as he opened his phone and scrolled for a while, his fingers retracted from the screen, staring at the email displayed on it.
It said:
"Your request for visiting has been granted..."
Jaxon sighed. ’How long has it been, eh?’
Kieran reached the parking lot where Amanda and two bodyguards waited beside a red Benz.
But getting closer, Kieran requested for the key. Amanda gave him a puzzling look and complained,
"Sir, don’t tell me you are..."
Kieran cut in, "Yes..." He added, "Maybe it would be better for me to join them as well. It’s been hours that we haven’t heard anything from her."
Amanda nodded, agreeing with him. "And no SOS report either."
Before Kieran got into the car, he gave an order:
"Make sure no one leaves either Zyn’s or Tiffany’s side, nor the penthouse itself. We can’t afford anyone to be taken hostages."
Amanda replied, "Understood, sir."
Kieran then drove away, while the two bodyguards bowed till his car disappeared from the lot. Amanda soon dismissed them to inform others to tighten the penthouse’s security. Then she made a call to the gang leader — the moment he picked up, she asked straight away,
"Any updates from that side? SOS?"
The man reported slowly over the phone, clearly checking something at that moment, "Oh... You mean from that girl? We have been here for hours yet she hasn’t even appeared at the police station. Could it be that—?"
"She hasn’t arrived yet you kept that to yourself?!" Amanda raised her voice on him, her eyes wide. Before he could say anything, she shouted, "Just be on standby for now," then disconnected the call to relay the news to Kieran. The moment he picked up, she immediately said with a sense of urgency, "Sir, bad news! I just heard Eve is yet to reach the police station."
Just making a turn into a junction on the road, his back straight and a knowing smirk playing around his lips, Kieran teased, "Why get that edgy? We expected this, didn’t we?"
"That’s right, but we have no idea what they have done to her if they truly have abducted her," Amanda declared. Swallowing, she asked, "Will you activate the SOS override from there? Or I do?"
"Oh, that?" Kieran mumbled, holding the wheel with a hand while he took out a small circular chip from his pocket. "How do you activate it again?"
Amanda went on to explain that, there must be a button at the top of the chip, very small too. Once it’s pressed, it displays the location of the SOS wrist watch on a connected device, because this chip was the special feature of the watch itself.
This is one of the things Kieran meant by automatic features last time when he gave Tiffany and Eve the watch.
Kieran did as Amanda said, and the screen of the i-pad beside him lit up to display a blue map with a green indicator static on a location — Maytender Constructions.
In an instance, Kieran made a U-turn on the road, the tyres grunting over the gravel. His car revved down the road.
He ordered, "Ask the guys to meet me at Maytender Constructions. That’s where Eve’s watch is."
"Understood, sir!"
A tight frown spread over Kieran’s face as he revved on, drifting here and there amidst cars. He clenched his jaw and mumbled,
"Come on, Mrs Jackson, why kill innocent kids when you’re no Grim Reaper? Ah... What a pain in the ass."
