Chapter 39: Another New Life
NARRATOR’S POV
The run rose with every second and the entire land was lit up by it. Asher had woken up and stood by the hillside, his eyes closed as he basked in the early morning sun.
He turned around to see Anna sitting up with her eyes still sleepy. He walked up to her and smiled in a way that made her feel at ease.
"How did you sleep?" He asked, his eyes still full from the events that had happened the previous day and from all the things he had witnessed from his previous life.
"I should be the one asking you that." She noticed the dark bags around his eyes which meant he didn’t sleep at all.
"What kept you awake?"
"Nothing." He smiled.
He walked away from her and put something on in front of her and gestured for her to eat it.
"What’s this?" She asked staring at it as if it was some strange extraterrestrial organism.
"It’s meat. I caught an octopus in the sea so I cooked it." Asher replied smiling.
"An octopus? How does one eat something like that?"
"It’s really good, you should try it."
Anna took one of the skewered octopus tentacles and bit into it. She had a disgusted expression on her face like she was about to throw up but then her expression changed.
"It tastes good." She nodded in excitement and kept on eating. She took another skewer and ate that one as well.
"Don’t rush, you’ll choke on it if you do." Asher warned as he took another skewer for himself.
"So..." Anna began and then stopped, she looked at his face for any signs of worry but found none.
Asher turned his head towards her he scanned her face but all he found was worry and anxiety.
"What bothers you?" He asked her as he kept on biting into his octopus tentacle.
"You’ve been acting different ever since your fight with Tahmut and I’m extremely worried that he did something to you." She expressed her fears and concerns but he saw them as trivial.
"Nothing’s wrong with me, I’m just a little shaken that’s all." He dismissed her worries without any problem and they both continued eating without speaking to each other.
"Come on." Asher began. "Radkiel will take us back home."
The next thing they knew, what seemed like a magic circle formed on the ground before them.
"What do we do?" Anna asked clearly perplexed.
"We step on it. Like so." Asher replied as he stepped on it and then immediately vanished into thin air.
"Ha!" Anna screamed as she saw him disappear. "Well, it’s now or never."
She stepped on the circle and then she vanished as well. To her it felt like she was being turned into liquid then poured into a container.
Woosh!
She looked around, observing her surroundings and seeing that it was basically the place where she and Asher usually lived with the two demigods.
But for some reason, she couldn’t find them.
"Asher! Mr. Radkiel! Mr. Gabriel!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. "Where are you?"
The scenery changed once again, she was now in a dark empty void. She looked around and it seemed like she was floating.
She tried to focus so she could get her balance back.
"We’re here." She turned around and saw three of them seated drinking tea at a table.
They were seated at a round table with three of them seated in a formal fashion, putting on their white robes.
"What are you guys doing here?" Anna asked her eyebrows raised in surprise.
"We’re discussing your futures." Radkiel replied, his eyes weren’t friendly as they used to be.
She looked at Gabriel and he still had his usual uninterested look. As for Asher, he wasn’t smiling as well. He looked extremely serious.
"Have a seat." Radkiel offered, a chair appeared out of nothing. She sat down, the silence unnerving.
"Now." Radkiel began. "The both of you have had a good run with us, but now we have no use for you anymore."
"Wh-why is that?!" Anna pushed her chair back as she got up.
"Well, you have completed your missions." Radkiel replied.
"We haven’t, Solaris still lives." Anna added.
"From our perspective, the both of you have finished your missions." Radkiel reiterated staring down at Anna.
The presence he exuded made it difficult for her breathe.
"Stop!" Asher screamed, staring down at Radkiel.
"Ha ha ha ha!" Radkiel laughed at the top of his voice. His presence faded. "Would you look at that Gabriel? The cub has grown."
For the first time since they had known him, Gabriel smirked.
"Well, the both of you have proven useful to an extent. Killing you would be a waste of time so..." Radkiel waved his arm and a bubble like substance manifested in his palm.
"What’s this for?" Anna asked.
"This is where the both of you would stay for a while." Radkiel replied.
Asher stayed quiet.
"This is fragment 213. No one knows either of you, so your lives will go uninterrupted."
Asher sighed and moved forward.
"Is this goodbye?" Anna stared at Asher with tears in her eyes. She had grown attached to him as he was one who saved her life.
"Oh no! The both of you will be transported to the very same location." Radkiel smiled. "I’m not that heartless."
"Really?!" Anna’s eyes brightened up. She jumped on Radkiel and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Radkiel smiled and blushed. "That was uncalled for."
Anna stood side by side with Asher, she turned to him and smiled.
He turned towards Asher and Anna. "Well, I’m sorry the both of you have to leave this way."
"I understand." Anna and Asher echoed in unison.
Woosh!
A gust of wind blew and covered the both of them.
"Gabriel!" Asher screamed and Gabriel turned towards him. "Thank you." Asher smiled.
Gabriel smiled at him and turned his face.
The both of them were dragged into the bubble by gravity.
"Now, that takes care of that." Radkiel said to Gabriel as he dusted his hands.
"Yeah." Gabriel replied with no emotion.
