Chapter 98: Chapter 97: Ashes of False Justice

’....’ Zoey’s eyes stared down the terrified hooded figure infront of her, she could practically feel every tremble of their body as she continued to look at them, her look impassive and full of malice.

Zoey didn’t waste any more time, with a quick slash to the head, the hooded figure was instantly decapitated in that moment, their blood gushing from their head.

The hooded figures head fell to the ground with a hard thud, followed by their body that shortly fell over as well.

’I can’t offard these bastards escaping, I’ve already been through enough trouble for one night.’ Zoey thought, her eyes landing on Keiran as she started to approach them.

Kieran immediately jolted at the sight of Zoey approaching him, but the moment he did, the spear embedded in his stomach burned with an undeniable pain that made him grunt even more as the wound would only get worse.

"Don’t struggle, it’s futile anyways." Zoey thought, standing before him as she took in his frightened features.

Her blade dripped with blood, the wet drops of the crimson liquid enough to break the tight silence that hung in the air around them, filled with the deep sense of inevitability.

"No! Cough! Please!" Kieran shouted, putting a hand infront of himself to try and stop Zoey, but the cold look in her eyes, the ones that had taken the lives of many and not given a single damn stared into his with an intensity that sent chills down his spine.

She didn’t care, her gaze was colder than ice, and could freeze the hottest temperatures with a mere glance.

The person infront of him, was a monster.

"Look at you, begging for your life," Zoey sneered, her tone full of disgust as she watched the pitiful Keiran gling to life.

"How come you didn’t feel anytning for the lives of the people you took earlier? The hopes you’ve killed, the dreams you shattered? These people had them, didn’t they? And yet you commited such a filthy act in the name of your false justice."

Zoey spoke, her words hanging in the air like a veil that uncovered all truths.

"There’s a price....cough! That we all are going to have to....cough! Pay if we want to rid the world of evil....cough!....sacrifices have to be made....as long as the objective is completed in the end....then nothing matters." Kieran spoke, his strength fading and his consciousness slipping.

Zoey narrowed her eyes as she saw this, grabbing [Venom Punisher] as she yanked the spear out of Kieran’s stomach, a mix of blood and some guts spewing out as she held the spear in her hand, coldly watching Kieran take his last breaths.

She sighed as she deactivated her skills, her aura dissapearing as she decided that she had went through enough trouble for one night.

Using the [Fireball] Skill she ignited their bodies on fire as she started to walk away, the flames consuming them whole as they were burned into oblivion, the evidence of their existence erased by her flames.

’I need to check up on Reina,’ Zoey thought, walking towards a building as she leaped to the top in one explosive jump, landing impressively on the roof.

Her eyes didn’t spend too long searching as she instantly spotted Reina, their form seated, the confusion eminating from her was enough to reach Zoey from a mile away. The expression she had on her face wasn’t from fear, if was from massive confusion and a loss of purpose.

Zoey approached the young woman, who stared at the ground as if it were the only thing in sight.

Although Zoey had originally wanted to kill this woman, she had decided to ultimately spare her. She couldn’t really do anything harmful to Zoey anymore, for if she were to head back to the Resistance, she would land into some serious trouble and could get herself executed.

But she couldn’t just decide to abandon leaving like nothing had happened either, for sooner or later, the organization is going to find her and she would get killed either way, so she didn’t know what to do in this situation.

’She’s still injured from the injuries I gave her, I should really heal her up.’ Zoey thought, taking out her [Tears Of Faith] Potion.

"Reina, drink this." Zoey said, crouching down next to her as she held the potion close to her mouth.

Reina hesistated, visibly jolting as if she had seen a ghost upon seeing Zoey appearing infront of her. She recalled the beating she had endured earlier from refusing Zoey’s demands, so in this state, she didn’t really have an option to refuse.

She was too terrified to.

Zoey gently guided her as she drank some of the potion of [Tears Of Faith], and immediately the effects were starting to show. Her wounds and bruises quickly started to heal, her bleeding stopped, and she looked healthy again.

Beside the blood that had dried on her face, Reina had been fully recovered by the effects of [Tears Of Faith], her eyes widening in deep shock at the sudden kind act done by the terrifying pirate infront of her.

’It healed her, good. That’s the best I can do for her in this situation.’ Zoey thought, rising up from her knees as she stored the [Tears Of Faith] Potion in her [Inventory].

"Are you feeling better?" She asked, looking at Reina who simply nodded, their movements a bit stiff and forced.

"So, what’s your next plan? You’re not thinking of returning to the Resistance, do you?" Zoey asked, raising a brow curiously as she cocked her head to the side slightly.

Upon hearing those words, Reina immediately became disgusted from the mere name of the organization.

"Of course not!" She replied, her voice cracking slightly. "I just...I don’t know how to proceed from here...." Reina admitted, her chest tightening.

Zoey felt a bit bad for her, but ultimately, this was something far out of her control. And despite helping her earlier, Reina still belonged to the Resistance, and was still their enemy, so Zoey couldn’t afford to trust under any circumstance.

"I wish you the best of luck, Reina." Zoey said, "I know that the path you will follow shall be dangerous, and by far not easy.

But it’s a choice you’re going to have to make at the end of the day, and you’re going to have to be strong enough to handle any troubles you may find yourself into."

Zoey said, starting to walk away as she made her way towards the boat.

"Farewell, Reina."
