Chapter 65: Chapter 64: The Devil’s Smile

"You tried to kill me, even after I spared you, I won’t forgive you twice."

Her words, full of rage and an extreme cold that could freeze the hottest of flames, left her lips as she gazed down at the pathetic form of Liam.

He was hurt alright, his teeth were smashed, his jaw a bit dislocated as it bended in an unnatural way, blood dripping down his nose and bruised mouth.

Liam could only tremble in fear as he gazed up at Zoey, he wanted to fight back, to kill this woman after what she had done to him. But after she had spoken her words, all the resolve he had earlier left his body, like a candle’s flame blown away by a chilly breeze.

"Don’t you dare-!" Marlius was about to yell as he pointed his shotgun at her, his finger set on the trigger and ready to shoot, but one fierce glare from Zoey made his heart stop as his widened in fear, sweat forming on his face.

The glare from her was different, full of rage and bloodlust as her eyes glowed brightly, activating [King’s Fury] as the already cold, and terrifying aura around her, become so cold to the point where Marlius could sweat that he couldn’t feel the heat in his body anymore. It was as if he was put into a frozen lake.

"Ah..." Marlius couldn’t utter a word as he felt that if he spoke anything, he would die, he could already imagine her tearing him to shreds under that intense glare from her. His men felt it as well, as they all trembled, unable to holster their guns.

"Now then," Zoey turned her gaze from Marlius and his men, back to Liam who was trembling beneath her from intense fear. She looked at him for a moment, how he trembled, the fear in his eyes was intoxicating as Zoey reveled in the feeling of dominating her enemies.

’I like seeing monsters trembling in fear, but I have to admit, seeing a human being trembling in fear is....far more enjoyable.’ She thought with a dark gleam in her eyes as she grinned like a devil.

Zoey hadn’t killed anyone before, let alone hurt others, as she was the one who was often hurt or mistreated for being "Mana-less". Hunters had power, influence, and more money than regular people, as they could be seen as powerful protectors, or a human beings worst nightmare.

Zoey lifted Liam up by the collar as she brought his face closer to hers, staring him dead in the eyes as she effortlessly used her strength to lift him up infront of others.

"You bastards kill and use others for your personal gain, don’t you?" Zoey asked, her voice cold and fierce.

Liam couldn’t say anything, not only because his jaw was dislocated, but because he was immensely terrified.

"I guess your world and mine have a few things in common," Zoey said, reflecting on her world.

While the vast majority of Hunters were protectors and had power and fame, there were others much more cruel, who would use their powers to kill people and form criminal organizations.

At the end of the day, monsters weren’t the only problem of Hunters, as Hunters themselves were monsters.

"This is why I barely trust people," Zoey muttered to herself, as she grabbed onto her [Knight’s Oath] Sword.

With one swift motion, she plunged the blade deep into Liam’s chest, the end of the blade easily going through as blood poured from the wound.

Zoey’s eyes grew dark, the new sin of her act weighting heavy on her shoulders as she looked at the form of Liam was choking blood and coughing for air.

’I...I stabbed him...’ Zoey thought, her heart clenching as she realized the weight of her actions. She had done it, she had actually killed somebody. But....

She didn’t feel anything.

Zoey withdrew the sword from Liam’s chest as she threw his corpse onto the ground, a heavy thud resounding as he fell hard, blood pooling beneath him.

She didn’t feel anything for doing that, as she simply couldn’t bother to care. The world had treated her harshly, discarded her, and didn’t welcome her, as power was the only thing that mattered in her society.

"I will not go back to being weak, to being powerless." Zoey said to herself as she looked at Marlius and his men with eyes full of bloodlust and rage, "Even if it means killing to survive, I have no choice but to move down this path."

Her sword hung by her side as she moved towards the men, blood dripping onto the ground in wet drops, the same blood that once belonged to Marlius’s man.

"You bastard!" Marlius yelled in rage upon seeing the dead body of his comrade, as he fired his shotgun at Zoey, a loud bang! Echoing through the air as the bullets travelled towards her with frightening speed.

However, Zoey quickly vanished once again, dissapearing into the wind as she decided to let the massacre unfold. Now that she had taken the life of a person for the first time, there was no need to hold back on empathy for the evil, as she needed to punish them all for discarding her mercy.

"That’s not going to work against me." Zoey said as she suddenly appeared before Marlius, but before he could react, she delivered a powerful punch to his face, the sound of bones cracking and blood spraying as he flew through the horde of his men, knocking several over as he landed far across the street.

The men instantly grew alarmed as they fired their guns at her in desperation, but they couldn’t even land a single bullet on her, as she was too fast for their eyes to keep track.

Zoey’s blade flashed as she started the massacre, easily cutting through Marlius’s men with insane strength and agility, her movements brutal and efficient as she cut through them like paper, the air filling with the sprays of blood and the screams of pain.

"Ahhhhh!" A man screamed as his entire right arm was cut off, but before he could continue to cry in pain, his head was off his shoulders, severed with a swift flash of reflected sunlight as Zoey decapitated him, her eyes cold and calculating, no trace of possible forgiveness lingered in her eyes anymore.

She had forgiven too easily before, endured so much, but not anymore. She offered them the chance to leave with their lives, but they still refused to take it? All while disrespecting her and trying to kill her, that was enough, she had had it.

Marlius, with his broken nose and bleeding face could only watch as Zoey effortlessly dealt with his men in the most brutal, and horrific ways only seen in a horror movie.

"Boss! Please!" A henchmen cried as they desperately ran towards Marlius, but before they could go far, a powerful flame exploded in their back, destroying them as they exploded in a fiery explosion that killed them instantly.

"Aaaahhhh!" Marlius cried in horror, tears of terror and filling his eyes as he truly experienced dread for the first time in all his life. He quickly sprang to his feet, struggling to get up as he desperately tried to make a break for it.

’What the hell! How could she.....no! That demon! How could that demon be so terrifying!’ Superhuman? He was actually planning on making THAT demon into his toy? How foolish! Irredeemably foolish of him.

’I need to get out of here! I need to get as far away as I can!’

Zoey stood among the bodies of the henchmen Marlius had sent to kill her, their blood pooling underneath her shoes as they bathed them in a crimson colour. The same colour of her hair and eyes.

Her serious expression lingered on the running form of Marlius, watching as he ran away as his life depended on it. A huge surge of excitement filled Zoey’s veins as she watched him run, the way his body heaved with every frightened breath, the way his eyes looked in her direction with fear and terror.

It was....undeniably exhilarating!

"Hahahaha!" Zoey laughed as she clutched her mouth, the amount of excitement flowing through her veins enough to resurrect the adrenaline enjoying physcopath that laid dormant within.

The one who loved fear, the one who enjoyed the sight of monsters trembling, the one who revelled in the feeling of dominating her enemies.

"I’m not letting you run away that easily, little bunny~" Zoey said, her voice dripping with sweet nectar as she walked with slow steps, her sword by her side as she had a delighted grin on her face, a sweet, melodic chuckle escaping her lips.

’I’m enjoying this too much~’

-------

Marlius ran into an alley way of the streets, leaning against a wall to catch his breath, his face drenched in sweat. His body trembled so much, his knees bucking.

"You didn’t think that you could escape, did you~?" He heard her voice in his ears, sweet, charming, and so melodic, like a goddess. But as his wide eyes looked at her, all he was met with was....

The devil’s smile.
