Chapter 48: Chapter 47: Gem in the Making
"Wait, seriously?" Zoey couldn’t help but raise a brow in confusion, "You want to teach me?" She asked, a bit skeptical. This wasn’t what she was expecting, it kinda surpised her.
Mira nodded, "Yes, if it’s okay with you, I’d like to train to you personally. I’ve seen the way you fought earlier, and while your power was nothing short of impressive, your combat technique is heavily flawed, and can be quickly exploited."
"Yeah...I know that, it was my first time fighting hand-to-hand, so naturally I’d suck at it." Zoey sighed.
"It was your first time?" Mira asked suprised, "But you’re quickly getting the hang of it, if you continue with this pace, you’ll definetly become a professional in no time." Mira stated, her kind and encouraging words sticking with Zoey.
’This is so strange, but I can’t deny how excited I am right now!’ Zoey thought with a small smile forming on her face, but she quickly pushed her thoughts aside as she put on a more serious expression.
"But why are you willing to teach me? I mean, I deeply appreciate it and all, however, there must be something behind this act of kindness, is it not?" Zoey asked, placing her hand on her hips as she raised an eyebrow.
Surely Mira had to want something from her, as she knew that such a kind act, wouldn’t just come for free.
Especially considering that Mira was an A-Rank, who was way stronger and a much more important Hunter than herself at the moment, she was likely to be very busy as well, as High-Ranking to Ascended Ranking Hunters have alot on their table.
As these Hunters usually have to clear stronger dungeons frequently, to make sure that no dungeons break.
"Well, I can’t really tell you that." Mira said with a small smile, shocking Zoey. Her smile was beautiful, adding a undeniable charm behind her usual and cold exterior, Zoey acknowledged that, as she thought that she would always look better if she continued to smile.
But of course, Zoey wouldn’t tell her that.
"You’re going to keep secrets now?" Zoey asked with a small, playful scoff.
"You’re the one with the most secrets here, am I not allowed to keep secrets myself?" Mira asked.
’.....She’s got a point.’ Zoey thought.
"Fine then, I accept." Zoey said with a warm smile.
Mira grinned slightly, "Splendid," She said as she extended a hand for a handshake "I’ll be looking forward to our training sessions, I’ll make sure to bring the best out of your combat ability." Mira said, as Zoey took her hand in a firm handshake.
"But before we depart," Mira suddenly started again, "I’ve observed you using Mage-Related Skills, as well as Physical Enhancement Skills. You’re also probably a swordsman as well, as I heard that you received [Void Requiem] from Sarina, correct?" Mira asked.
"Yeah, that’s correct. I don’t specifically have a role, as I’ll use anything I get my hands on. I can use a sword, which is probably my strongest suit as I can somewhat fight with a blade, and the Physical Enhancement Skills greately help me with that as well." Zoey said as she placed a finger on her cheek, her gaze rising up at the ceiling as she spoke again.
"I also use Mage-Related Skills, like [Fireball], to deal with enemies that are a distance from me. So, as of right now, I’m leaning towards being a Sword-Mage, however, I wouldn’t mind learning hand-to-hand combat." Zoey finished her statement.
’She’s pretty versatile, that’s interesting, as I only know a few people who are like that in our guild. But she wants to learn hand-to-hand as well?’ A smirk appeared on Mira’s lips as her golden eyes shone with deep determination.
’Well then, looks like I have a gem in the making here, it’s up to me to perfect her combat ability.’ She thought to herself.
"Alright, I’ll be able to teach you everything. I’m pretty skilled at hand-to-hand combat and have expert Magic Control. I don’t have much experience with a sword, however, I can definetly teach you a few things with a blade." Mira explained.
"That’s good to me," Zoey replied, a deep sense of determination flooding into her being.
"I’ll be looking forward to it."
----------
Zoey’s eyes narrowed as she stood infront of a massive C-Rank Dungeon. The portal swirled and crackled with Mana as a potent amount was radiating from the dungeon entrance.
"C-Rank Dungeon, Golem Sanctuary." Zoey muttered as she glanced at her phone about the details of the Dungeon.
Earlier, before separating from Mira, she had decided to go check out some of the Quests the guild had to offer. Although she was definetly scratching B-Rank, Zoey wasn’t sure she could handle a dungeon of that difficulty yet.
Even though she managed to beat Kyle, it was only out of a moment of suprise that she had managed to beat him, and that was with him holding back immensely, not even even fully utilizing his Talent.
’The pay for this dungeon is really good, I heard it’s one of the more tougher ones, but it should be a way to test my strength and see how strong I am against C-Rank monsters.’ Zoey thought, the air around her hand crackling as she took out [Knight’s Oath].
She was standing in an alley way behind some buildings, where the dungeon has opened up. The dungeons could open up and appear at any location, so it was crucial for the Hunter Association to quickly discover these places and prevent a dungeon from breaking, as if they weren’t monitored, disaster could strike the city.
Zoey glanced around herself as she then took out [Void Requiem] as well, the blade’s form humming with powerful electricity.
"I need to take down as many Dungeons as I can, and secure as many Skill Books as I can to prepare for that Trial." Zoey muttered to herself, before finally stepping into the dungeon, her form dissapearing into the large blue portal.
Zoey planned on tackling as many dungeons as she could, to gain Skill Books, and hopefully some good Items that would prove useful in the next Trial. She wanted to gain her hands on atleast a few Skills, and max them out by training with them in an open area, or during another dungeon raid.
"And if I can’t secure Skill Books this way, then I’ll just waste all my money and buy more." Zoey muttered as she appeared on the otherside of the portal, standing in the middle of a large, grand temple.
Beautiful pillars of marble and sleek polished floors spread throughout the Dungeon, the air was mostly fresh, except for the strong Mana that made it a bit stale.
Zoey stood in the middle of the Dungeon, the air brushing against her clothes as she gripped onto her swords tighter. The sounds of crackling and reality tearing itself caught her attention as she glanced at her side to see a large swirling light, similar to that of a Dungeon entrance, appear inside the dungeon.
"Here they come." Zoey prepared herself, as out of the blue swirling light, came a giant hulk made of stone. A large Golem appeared, towering in terms of heights as its steps made the ground tremble a bit, glowing runes etched on it’s body as it’s eyes shone with a deadly golden glow.
Zoey’s eyes fell to the other swirling lights that started to appear in the dungeon, as more and more Golems made their way out of the portal, the dungeons numbers slowly filling up with them.
’Golems, pretty strong in attack and durability. They also have great resistance to elemental attacks too, so that makes my [Fireball] Skill not really suitable for this dungeon.
My [Void Requiem] sword’s lightning effects will also be heavily reduced because of that.’
Zoey thought as she contemplated deeply, a small grin forming on her face as she saw the monsters starting to approach her. Moving in unison, the combined force from all their steps, making the ground tremble.
’However, there’s a major flaw that all Golems have,’ Zoey thought as she started to dash at the Golems witn fast speeds, quickly appearing before them as her figure moved like a blur.
’They lack speed.’
She delivered a powerful slash at one of the Golem’s Chest with [Void Requiem], the blade sparked with lighting and raw power as it formed a small crack on the Golem’s chest. Zoey narrowed her eyes as she observed just how little elemental damage and physical damage her attack to the Golem, as most shock was absorbed.
’Looks like this will be interesting.’ Zoey thought as she avoided a crushing slam of the Golem’s arm, the ground cracked hard as debre flew everywhere.
’I might need to go all out for this.’ She thought, before dodging another attack from a Golem, and retaliating with a double slash from both her blades, which barely did anything.
Zoey’s expression turned serious as a powerful crimson aura formed around her body, intensifying as her body fumed with power, her strength soaring in that moment as [Hardened Will] and [King’s Fury] activated.
"They weren’t very effective against Kyle, but I’m quite curious to see how effective they’ll be on you."
