Volume 15 Chapter 23: Is He Going To Show Up?
Keith walked off the stage after he took out his opponent; there wasn't even a bead of sweat dripping from his forehead. After seeing how he fired magic, he timed the action and then knocked him out before he could finish. Despite his victory, it was overshadowed by the boos that came with it.
"..." Is it weird I'm getting used to this?
His boos were soon overshadowed by the following matches. However, Keith's attention was only focused on one match; the match between Valgros and his opponent. He was his strongest contender.
That man was a force of nature. Like him, he took out his opponent before they could finish their move.
That man was a force of nature. However, his opponent was the direct opposite, as he gave up before he even had the chance to do anything.
"..." I don't think I will see him use his full strength until the end. Seeing his full power would give him a good gauge of what he needed to do. However, he was going in cold turkey, but the same could be said for Valgros. Both sides probably wanted to see the other's full strength. A small grin formed, eager to face him.
Later in the day, Keith practiced in the barracks. As he waved his sword, he noticed an oddity, “You're not going at it like you usually would.”
His sparring partner was Tharaziel; he had been facing him for quite some time. With it, he understood his capabilities; he was going much slower than the other times before.
“I'm fine. I just ate something bad, nothing else.” Tharaxiel grumbled as he fired his magic. Keith easily flicked it away. He continued to dodge, which caused Tharaziel to roar, "Stop dodging!"
Tharaziel grumbled as he fired his magic! However, Keith flicked it away like a bug, "Yep, definitely lower than your usual performance. It's more of a spark than a fireball."
Jab! That definitely hit home; a vein slowly bulged on Tharaziel's forehead as he started to fire magic, "I'll show you a fireball!" As the rain of fire came flying, Keith shifted his body. His body slowly swayed, dodging all of the fire.
"Then aim better." Keith laughed as he continued to run away. It was only after some time that Tharaziel gave up. Chasing after him was a losing effort.
"By the way, I've been meaning to ask, is your father going to show up at the tournament?" Scarlet, Elyndra, and Tharaziel sat on the podium. Lilith didn't need to sit there since she was the previous queen and didn't need to do anything. However, the real issue was there was no sight of the king at all.
“He'll be coming on the final day of the tournament.”
“But…”
“Our family dynamic is weird. After first mother passed away…” Tharaxiel didn't finish his sentence. But that alone was enough to give Keith a clearer picture of what happened.
"..." First mother?
…
Later in the day, Keith headed to the stadium again. He watched the fight from backstage. There was no need to view it from the private booth since he was alone, and it wasn't worth it. Eri was hanging out in the garden.
While he continued to watch,
“What do you think about the matches?” Valgros walked over to him.
“Not that flashy.” Keith felt it was mundane for the most part. However, the crowd thought differently. It seemed they were all in favor of fights.
“But our fights will show them what strength is.” Valgros smiled as he stared at him.
“Hmm? You're assuming that I will get to the end?” Keith smiled.
“Do you think I don't have eyes? You're clearly above everyone in the bracket.” Like Keith, Valgros also watched the matches. Keith was blowing his opponents away, as if they were twigs. It was evident that they would meet at the end.
“So, what do you think about this bracket?”
“The hooded fellow is going to win. He's the weakest of the four who will get out.”
“...”
“It's clear that the young duke will be getting out of the fourth.” Draezar was another contender.
“Either way, I don't want to lose against you.”
"Because I'm human?"
“Because you're strong.”
“...” Oh, so you're a battle junkie.
“Sorry, but I'm going to come out on top.” Keith chuckled. But as they continued talking with one another, the two watched Draezar knock someone out. It was such a crude attack that it caused the two to frown.
“He's like a dumb animal trying to show off.”
“The problem is that he has the skills to back it up.” It made all the difference.
