Chapter 83: Preparations
The sun had just risen over the training base, but the comprehensive training ground was already bustling with activity.
The place was filled with a large number of military students, and even teachers from various military academies had appeared at the base.
Leading them was the examiner from the five military academies. The students had already seen them at the entrance exam.
Arix saw Marlone, one of the five examiners, on the podium. They noticed each other and exchanged smiles and waves due to the formal setting.
At 8 AM, with everyone gathered, the instructors confirmed the student numbers from each academy and began the pre-competition preparations.
The rules for the competition stated that no external items were allowed. The students had to hand over everything except their clothes, digital wristbands, and a knife given by the instructors. Even their Space Buttons were taken away, causing many students to groan in protest.
They would be spending a whole week outdoors with no gear, which seemed very harsh. They wondered what good a small knife could do. Could it feed them? Keep them warm at night? Provide any real sense of security?
In the age of space travel, military students were used to advanced weapons, and a small knife seemed as useful as a nail clipper to them. Useful, but not much.
However, faced with the threat of losing points, the students had no choice but to comply and stay quiet.
After the preparations, Nyx, the head of the training base, finally spoke from the podium. "Hello, students! Your month of freshman training is coming to an end. To conclude, we have decided to hold a competition to see how much you’ve improved. So, do you have confidence in yourselves? Answer me loudly."
The students grumbled internally but still shouted, "Yes, sir!"
Nyx nodded with a smile, "Good. Now, I will announce the rules. This competition requires teamwork. Each team earns one point for every beast they kill. The top ten teams will receive an extra 100 points. Each team consists of five people, based on your wristband numbers. Teams 1-5, 6-10, and so on. Survive in the Sugli Forest for a week, and you pass. Here’s a note for you: if you feel your life is in danger, remove your wristband, and an instructor will locate and retrieve you. Now, get ready to board the warships."
With that, six massive warships from the Fifth Legion base landed in front of the comprehensive training ground.
The instructors led their students from each academy onto separate warships. Once all the students were aboard, the examiners and the training base leaders boarded their own warship.
Then, the six warships flew south together.
Inside the Hecaris Military Academy warship, students were calling out numbers to find their teammates based on their wristbands. After half an hour, Arix finally met up with her team. Her four teammates were three boys and one girl. To Arix’s surprise, two of them were people she knew.
"Arix! I can’t believe we’re teammates!" Calista said excitedly, linking her arm with Arix.
"And my brother is also a teammate," Arix said, glancing at Drexel. She looked at Calista and laughed.
Arix had already expected Drexel to be her teammate since he was standing next to her when they received their number plates. Drexel’s number was 70, which was close to hers. The only surprise was that Calista’s number was 66. What a coincidence!
Calista shyly held Arix’s arm, stealing glances at Drexel. ’Such a cute little fangirl!’ Arix thought, hugging her own arm and refusing to admit she was a bit jealous of how her friend was so obsessed with Drexel.
"Arix, come over here with your friend. Let’s discuss the competition," Drexel said. He didn’t notice the little secret between Arix and Calista.
Drexel and the other two teammates were already discussing the Sugli Forest.
Arix and Calista joined them, and the teammates sized each other up.
"We’ll be together for a week, so let’s start with introductions. I’ll go first. I’m Drexel from the Department of Combat. I’m studying command as a second major. My psychic and physical powers are both Supergiant-Class. If we’ll agree, I proposed to be the team leader for this competition," Drexel said, his expression serious and reliable.
At home, Drexel could laugh and play without restraint, but in front of others, he was the rightful heir of the Kering family and possibly a future admiral.
Even Arix had to admit that Drexel was very charismatic like this. It was no wonder he had so many admirers at the Hecaris Military Academy.
Arix glanced at Calista, who was looking at Drexel with admiration, and sighed.
The other teammates exchanged looks and nodded in agreement with Drexel taking the lead.
"Next, it’s my turn. I’m Arix from the Mecha Department and the Department of Chemistry. My psychic power is Supergiant-Class, and my physical power is Star-Class. Nice to meet you all," Arix said with a smile.
"My name is Calista, from the Department of Chemistry. Both my psychic power and physical power are Star-Class. Nice to see you," Calista introduced herself shyly.
"My name is Femi, from the Psychic Ware Department. My psychic power is Star-Class, and my physical power is Planet-Class. Good to see you guys," Femi said. He had a baby face, and even his personality and eyes were a bit childish.
"My name is Dae-jung, from the Department of Combat. My physical power is Subgiant-Class, and my psychic power is Star-Class. Nice to meet you," Dae-jung introduced himself. He was a handsome young man, but his personality was a bit cold and distant, giving off a feeling of a cold moonlit night.
"Good, now we all know each other," Drexel said. "We need to survive in the Sugli Forest for a week. The key is teamwork. When we encounter beasts, we must stay calm and work together. My plan is to first establish a safe camp. During the day, we’ll search for food and water, and at night, we’ll take turns keeping watch. Does anyone have any questions or suggestions?"
The others shook their heads, agreeing with the plan.
