Chapter 57: The Heir’s Past

Chapter 57: The Heir’s Past

"That’s all?" Zephyr’s eyes narrowed slightly. Even though his voice was steady, it sent a chill down the spines of Drexel and the others.

Suddenly, they realized that Zephyr’s weapon, which was originally a lady’s energy pistol, had be swapped by his own high-end energy gun. The gun’s muzzle casually pointed at them, as if it might accidentally fire at any moment.

The smiles on Drexel and the others froze, and a strong sense of danger made them instinctively shut off their mouths. Elio, who was the most afraid, made a zipping motion over his mouth and timidly gave a thumbs up, as if asking, "Is that enough, sir?"

Zephyr didn’t say a word but put the energy gun back into his Space Button. Then he turned to Arix with a stern face and said, "If it breaks, you can come to me to fix it. If you ever don’t want it anymore, you can give it back to me."

"Okay, thank you. I will cherish it," Arix promised solemnly.

"Um," Zephyr replied, his voice still emotionless.

For some reason, Arix felt that Zephyr was unusually gentle at that moment, but she quickly thought it might just be her imagination. Maybe it was just the joy of the day making everyone seem softer. Or perhaps his gentleness was only meant for the gun.

Laughing at her own thoughts, Arix shook her head and put everyone’s gifts into her Space Button. Then she pulled out a large bunch of various potions.

"Thank you for the gifts. These are the Planet-Class potions I made. I hope you don’t mind," she said as she handed out a bunch to everyone.

"Wow, Arix, you can make Planet-Class potions now? That’s amazing! Can I count on you for that from now on?" Adrian admired her with sparkling eyes, excitedly trying to hug Arix’s arm.

But Drexel noticed immediately. He blocked Adrian with his chest and bared his small fangs in a threatening way, his expression saying, "Stay away from my sister."

Adrian huffed and rolled his eyes at Drexel. Then he looked at Arix again, his eyes bright and shining, and asked with a sunny smile, "Arix, do you need an assistant of something? ’cause I can definitely do that."

Before Arix could answer, Drexel interrupted harshly, "No need! My sister has a brother, and that’s enough."

Adrian’s eyes widened in anger, ready to argue back, but then Cirilla grabbed him by the collar and dragged him away. "Enough, Adrain, stop it. You know Drexel is overprotective. Be careful, or he might hit the crap out of you, and I won’t be able to stop him," Cirilla said, patting Adrian’s head to calm him down.

"Whatever," Adrian muttered, his lips pouting, but at least he calmed down physically.

When Varden received the potions, his professional habits kicked in. He started examining each potion carefully.

There were about twenty potions, mostly Planet-Class healing potions, but also some for hair growth, cancer prevention, and even one for breast enhancement, which made Varden’s mouth twitch as he rubbed his forehead, unable to bear looking at them any longer.

Then he put all the potions into his Space Button.

The others weren’t as dramatic; their happiness stemmed more from Arix’s thoughtfulness.

After the gifts were distributed, everyone said their goodbyes, leaving only Arix and Drexel walking back to their dormitory together.

"Arix, are you happy today?" Drexel asked casually.

"Yeah, probably the happiest day since I came here," Arix responded, thinking of Thaddeus, Cirilla, Adrian, and a genuine smile spread across her face.

"By the way, you and Zephyr, being heirs of the five noble families, why aren’t you competing against each other but instead have such good relationships?" Arix finally voiced her long-held curiosity.

Especially during the exams, she had thought that the noble families would be sabotaging each other, but the brotherly love shown there had stunned her.

"Isn’t it normal for those big families to fight each other, struggling to be first or second?" she added.

Drexel recalled some distant memories with a bit of emotion, "Actually, it wasn’t this good at the beginning, especially Elio. He had all the airs of a young master. When we were kids, I’d beat him up every time I saw him."

Arix was speechless, now understanding why Elio targeted Drexel so much during the exams; their "love-hate relationship" had started from childhood.

"And what about Cirilla? How did you guys end up friends?" Arix asked curiously.

"Cirilla, the tomboy, liked to fight with boys since she was a child. Men often bond through fighting, well, I mean brotherly love," Drexel quickly clarified to prevent any misunderstanding from his sister.

"Oh, that’s just like Cirilla. If she were in ancient Earth, she would probably be like superwoman," Arix said with a hint of admiration, genuinely liking the kind of girl who could hold her own against men.

"Arix, admiration is fine, but don’t try to be like her. What girl acts so brashly? She doesn’t act ladylike at all," Drexel quickly cautioned, not wanting his cute and sweet sister to turn into a tomboy like Cirilla.

Arix huffed, not quite agreeing. Then she continued, "You haven’t told me about Zephyr yet?"

When Drexel mentioned Zephyr, he fell into a rare silence before speaking, "Actually, Zephyr has it tough. Although he became the heir of the Calix family due to his strong talents, but the current patriarch isn’t his dad and the guy has his own sons, so Zephyr’s position in the Calix family is probably not as glamorous as it seems. I remember when we were kids, he was a bit aloof but approachable, not like now, as cold as a fish."

"Could it be that he has been through too many bad things?" Arix asked, concerned.

She thought Zephyr was a good person with a cold exterior but a warm heart. Initially, she assumed he was just naturally reserved, but now it seemed there might be hidden reasons behind his demeanor.
