Chapter 39: Sweet Roommates
Chapter 39: Sweet Roommates
Arix had rested for a while in the hospital room. When she felt her strength had mostly returned, she and Drexel left the medical room together.
Not long after they left the medical room, Arix noticed quite a few freshmen from various military academies, secretly watching her and Drexel, some openly, some covertly.
"Ah, look, it’s Arix and Drexel."
"Wow! It looks like what they said on the interstellarnet is true. They must be seeing each other now."
"I’m 100% sure it is true. I heard this morning during the training, Arix just fainted, and Drexel was super nervous and rushed her straight to the medical room. He was so anxious that even the doctor got scared, thinking that the one he was holding must be dead."
"Haha, what a scene. Too bad we were also on training at that time, or I would have definitely come to watch."
Having listen to all the gossip about herself, Arix felt utterly disheveled.
She now regretted why she hadn’t debunked the rumors earlier. Now she felt so embarrassed.
"Maybe I should just go back alone." Arix looked at her rumored "boyfriend," almost unable to face herself.
"I’ll walk you to the dorm building then leave," Drexel said, looking at her like he was dealing with an unreasonable child, his face full of indulgence.
Drexel now was like a mama bear protecting her cub. He couldn’t leave without making sure his cub was safe.
Arix bit her lip, hesitating. In the end, she could only frown and let Drexel walk her to the dorm building.
After saying goodbye, Arix, as if scared of something, dashed back to her dorm.
Drexel stayed where he was, watching Arix’s retreating figure with a satisfied smile, "It seems Arix has indeed recovered."
Arix returned to her dorm to find that none of her roommates were there.
She looked up at the clock on the wall, only to realize it was already 3 PM. By this time, the afternoon training had probably started for an hour.
Arix wasn’t worried. Drexel had told her earlier that he had already requested a half-day sick leave for her. She could indeed take it easy this afternoon.
Thinking this, Arix walked towards her bed in a good mood. She saw a bunch of snacks placed next to her pillow.
She knew it was definitely her lovely roommates’ doing.
Arix’s lips curved. She sat on her bed feeling warm inside, took out a potion book from her Space Button, and started to enjoy reading while munching on snacks.
Time flew by quickly, and as the red sunset began to reflect in the dorm window, Arix’s roommates finally came back.
"Arix, you’re back," Calista greeted her weakly. She was not in a good state, but she perked up a bit seeing Arix.
"Why do you all look like this?" Arix exclaimed in surprise. She stared in astonishment at her roommates, who looked as if they had been up for several nights.
As soon as Rei entered the dorm, she collapsed onto her bed and groaned, "Don’t even ask—it was psychic power training this afternoon. We spent practically the whole time either falling on our faces or on our way down."
"Why do we need to wear weighted rings during psychic power training? I’m starting to get a bad feeling about this. Are we going to wear these rings in all future training sessions?" Leyla lamented, sitting on her bed as if drained of all her energy.
"The likelihood is above 90%, I figured," Lilou added solemnly.
Arix, the first victim of the weighted rings, gasped at Lilou’s comment and soon joined her roommates in their despondency.
"Fine, there’s no way that we can stop it. Let’s shower first, then we’ll lie down and rest," Maya suggested, breaking the increasingly heavy mood. She took her toiletries from her locker and headed to the communal bathroom in the dorm hallway.
The girls groaned in resignation and followed her with their towels.
When they returned, they were clean and refreshed, yet all collapsed on their beds, unwilling to move.
Before long, Arix noticed the dorm had fallen completely silent. She looked up to see her roommates had all fallen asleep.
Shaking her head with a smile, Arix got up, turned off the lights, and let the girls sleep soundly.
The next morning, the wake-up whistle sounded from downstairs.
Arix and her roommates quickly washed up and dressed. After breakfast in the cafeteria, they arrived at the training field at 8 AM.
Today’s training was weighted cross-country running. To Arix’s surprise, the weight of her rings had been increased to 60kg.
She looked puzzled at Virtanen, who was distributing the rings, and asked, "Are you sure you didn’t make a mistake with mine?"
"No mistake, this is the correct ring for your Planet Class physique!" Virtanen confirmed hastily, his eyes darting away nervously.
Then, like a chick evading a hawk, he quickly finished distributing the rings to Arix’s row and hurried away, looking guilty.
Arix, filled with questions about the instructor’s behavior, said nothing and faithfully followed the team, starting to run.
Initially, Maya and the others were worried about Arix, so they slowed down to run alongside her. Seeing no issues, they eventually picked up the pace and ran ahead.
Ortiz and his two colleagues kept a discreet watch on Arix. Seeing that she was managing well, they breathed a sigh of relief almost simultaneously.
"It seems that gradual progression is the right approach," Ortiz remarked with relief.
"Yeah, let’s keep it this way for the time being," Bauer agreed.
"But what about the afternoon’s psychic power training? Could there be any issues there?" Virtanen suddenly chimed in, his question hanging awkwardly in the air.
The air in the vehicle turned silent, clearly indicating Virtanen had brought up an inappropriate topic.
Feeling the intense stares of the other two, Virtanen shrank into a corner of the vehicle, his demeanor as guilty and pitiful as a dog who had chewed the wrong tube.
"Ortiz, my fists are getting itchy, and you’re going to be blind for the next ten minutes, right?" Bauer said, his voice light but his eyes locked intensely on Virtanen in the corner.
"Oh, what a coincidence, I was thinking the same," Ortiz added with a menacing grin as he approached Virtanen.
"Wow!! Don’t come over here!" Virtanen’s pleas and screams filled the vehicle but were soon drowned out by the others’ laughter.
