Chapter 29: Making the Headlines
They finished the meal in a good mood. Just as Arix was about to leave, Fleur stopped her.
After transferring a large sum of money into her account, Fleur finally pushed her out the door.
"Just go. Buy yourself something nice."
Drexel was waiting by the door to drive Arix. Seeing this, his eyes turned green with envy.
He raised his hand to check his bank account on his opticomputer. His balance showed only 100,000 astrocredits, which Fleur had just transferred to him.
Drexel suddenly felt a chill in his heart.
His eyes quickly darted around, and then, trying to butter Arix up, he said, "Arix, do you have so much money you can’t even spend it all? Maybe I can help you spend some?"
Arix raised an eyebrow. Although she really couldn’t spend all that money, she wouldn’t complain about having too much—no one would.
Just at that moment, Arix remembered her potion shop on the interstellarnet, which really could use someone to help manage it.
Over the past month, besides reading beginner’s books on mechas, Arix had also been learning about potions. She had made a bunch of potions below Planet Class.
To make space, Arix had put them up in her online store, and actually sold quite a few.
But what bothered Arix the most each time she sold potions was handling the sales and packing the parcels. She thought if someone could take care of these chores, it wouldn’t be too bad. And since Drexel was her brother, he was definitely trustworthy.
Thinking this, Arix looked at Drexel.
Feeling her stare, Drexel got a bit nervous until she spoke, "How about a job? Manage my online store, mainly handle sales and shipping, I’ll pay you 5 million a month, or you can take 10% of the profits."
"Of course!" Drexel immediately agreed without hesitation. But then something occurred to him, and he cautiously asked, "Arix, when did you start an online store? It’s legit business, right?"
"It’s a potion store," Arix said with a resigned roll of her eyes.
Only then did Drexel remember. Arix’s talent for potions was indeed impressive. He had seen her make insecticide potions before, and they were quite astonishing.
"Tsk tsk tsk! That’s my sister," Drexel said, giving her a thumbs up.
"So, do you choose 5 million, or 10% of the profits?" Arix asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I’m not dumb, of course. I’ll take the 10% share. Heh, does that make me your partner too?" Drexel, never having been in a real business before, laughed excitedly.
"Yeah, I’m the big boss, and you’re my right hand. When we get home, I’ll log into the Connective Pod and give you authorities."
Finding someone to manage her store made Arix quite happy. Now she could focus on studying potions and mechas.
"Alright, let’s hurry up so we can come back early." Drexel courteously opened the car door for her, helping Arix into the car first.
Then he sat in the driver’s seat, started the Lev, and sped off toward the mall.
Twenty minutes later, Drexel parked the Lev at the designated spot and then led Arix into the mall, named the Lasair’s.
"What are we looking for?" Arix asked Drexel. She wasn’t very familiar with what to prepare for military trainings in this world.
Drexel opened his chat history with Varden and started listing items, "I know this! I asked Varden before coming. He said we need to get face wash, shower gel, fresh towels, sunscreen..."
As Arix listened, she realized these were all familiar items. She felt a bit sentimental that the items for interstellar military training were no different from a regular camping trip.
The two found a department store. As soon as they entered, they noticed many military students, apparently also preparing for training.
The store was full of high-tech items that quickly caught Arix’s attention. Excited, she pulled Drexel around the store, exploring here and there.
While they were shopping, many military academy students recognized Drexel and Arix. After all, Arix was among the top ten new students, and Drexel was a notable figure from the Hecaris Military Academy.
"Look, it’s Drexel Kering and Arix Thalis! Why are they shopping together? Oh my gosh, are they seeing each other?" one student thought he had discovered big news. He quickly took a sneaky photo of them being close together and uploaded it to the Interstellarnet Headlines.
"I always felt there was something special between them. It’s confirmed, confirmed! If they’re not a couple, I’ll eat noodles with my nose," another girl whispered excitedly.
Her friend, with a dreamy expression, added, "A wealthy heir and an orphan from Planet Waste, what a perfect match. Tell the court, I’ve ruled, they must marry soon."
Someone behind them protested unhappily, "Arix is just an orphan from Planet Waste; she’s not worthy of Drexel. Please stop making random matches; only a lady like Cirilla is suitable for him."
The self-declared "judge" disdainfully retorted, "Look at your face, it’s all twisted with jealousy. Even if Arix comes from a humble background, she’s among the top ten newcomers. If you were that impressive, my ruling might favor you too."
Meanwhile, Arix kept sneezing. Drexel looked over with concern, "Are you catching a cold? Should we buy some medicine?"
Arix sniffed and frowned, "No cold, but I feel like someone is cursing me."
"Arix, we’re in the age of science now. How can you still believe in such superstitions?" Drexel said, chuckling as he playfully ruffled her hair.
However, after Drexel ruffled her hair, Arix felt her symptoms worsen a bit.
Arix shivered slightly. Now uncertain if she might actually have a cold, she said to Drexel, "Let’s finish shopping and head back."
"Okay, we just need to get sunscreen. Let’s grab that and go. You head to the checkout and wait for me," Drexel replied, also showing concern for Arix. He hurried off toward the sunscreen display.
Ding!
"You have a message from Cassian."
Just as Arix reached the checkout, her opticomputer chimed with a notification.
Hearing it was from Cassian, Arix smiled slightly and opened the message on her opticomputer. A photo of her and Drexel together popped up in the conversation.
Arix was puzzled for a moment and sent a question mark in response. Then she started typing, "What does this mean? Drexel and I are just shopping. How do you have our photo?"
"Arix, check out the top news on interstellarnet. You’re in for a surprise," the message read.
Feeling confused, Arix logged onto the Interstellarnet Headlines. The headline that greeted her nearly made her blood boil.
