Chapter 102: Everybody’s Favorite
Arix’s eyes darted around nervously. Then, with a bit of hesitation, they shuffled over to Sunak’s side.
Rubbing their furry body against Sunak, Arix spoke in a sugary, pleading voice, "Sunak, don’t be mad. I was just bored in the room and needed a little fresh air."
"And besides, I’m still just a little cub. If I stay cooped up all the time, I’ll get depressed and lose my fur." Arix’s voice mixed soft pleading with a touch of stubbornness. Her eyes welled up with tears, making them look even more pitiful.
Sunak clenched their fists, trying to stay firm, but he couldn’t resist for long. He sighed and scooped Arix up into his arms, "Arix, you need to remember you’re still a cub and have to listen to the adults, okay?"
’But I’m over eighteen now!’ Arix complained inwardly, but she kept an innocent and obedient expression on their face, nodding dutifully.
Sunak looked at Arix, seeing an expression that said, ’I’ll listen, but I’ll definitely do it again.’
Frustrated, Sunak ruffled Arix’s hair roughly until Arix squirmed and almost nipped at them.
"Going out is fine, but you have to tell me first. If I can’t find you, I’ll get worried, got it?" Sunak tried to sound stern.
"Got it, got it," Arix pouted, using their paws to smooth their ruffled fur.
"You cheeky brat. Alright, go play, I’m leaving." With a final playful ruffle of Arix’s fur, Sunak slipped out the door.
"Awoo!" Arix growled in frustration, baring her teeth, wishing she could bite Sunak for that.
Three days passed with Arix following Scion around, exploring every place of the starship carrier. During that time, the Empire soldiers grew fond of the adorable cub, often stopping to ruffle Arix’s head whenever they saw her.
Today, however, felt different.
The soldiers were in a hurry, and even when they saw Arix, they didn’t stop to ruffle her head. Instead, they all told Arix to go back to their room and stay safe.
Arix nodded obediently, planning to find Scion to ask what was going on. But when she reached the conference room, she saw Scion and the others in an urgent meeting.
Having no other choice, Arix turned around and went back.
On her way back, Arix ran into Sunak. As soon as he saw her, he picked her up and started running toward the lounge, his voice filled with urgency, "Arix, it’s too dangerous outside. Stay in your room and don’t wander around."
"Sunak, what’s going on? Can I help?" Arix asked, her worry evident.
"Our mission was to eliminate the insectoid harassing the border, but it turned out to be a full-blown swarm!" Sunak’s eyes were a mix of emotions Arix couldn’t quite decipher—anger laced with a sense of deep despair.
Arix could tell from his face that things were very bad. Otherwise, Sunak wouldn’t be so serious, even feeling guilty and blaming himself.
"Arix, I really shouldn’t have bought you to the front line. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be in this danger." Sunak’s voice wavered with remorse.
Seeing Sunak so down, Arix nuzzled his neck with her furry head, trying to comfort him, "It’s okay, Sunak. Don’t be scared. We’ll do our best together."
Sunak, touched, sniffled and rubbed his head against Arix’s, "Yes, we’ll do our best together. Plus, we have the admiral. As long as he’s okay, we’ll be fine."
Arix felt something was off about that statement...
Sure enough, the next second, someone came rushing over, stopping Sunak and saying urgently, "Sir, Admiral Scion is in trouble! He had a sudden psychic power rampage during the meeting!"
"What!" Sunak was so shocked he forgot he was holding Arix and took off with the messenger.
Being carried along, Arix, with eyes filled with a resigned look of ancient wisdom, thought, ’Could you guys stop jinxing things during emergencies?’
Arix sighed inwardly, planning to go see the situation. If it was a psychic power issue, she might be able to help a little.
The three of them moved quickly, soon arriving at a quarantine room. Outside the room, three Empire officers stood anxiously.
"Vice Admiral De’an, Rear Admiral Frepe, Captain Chris, Lieutenant Commander Lancelot, how’s the admiral?" Sunak asked urgently.
"It’s not good. The admiral’s psychic power is very strong, and after the rampage, it’s even more terrifying. Not only doctors, but even we can’t get close, so there’s no way to treat him," Captain Chris replied, his brow furrowed in worry.
"How did this happen? The admiral was fine. How could his psychic power suddenly go out of control?" Sunak was nearly frantic with worry.
The insectoid swarm was already pushing them to the brink, and now their leader, the admiral, was in crisis too. Internal strife on top of external threats was driving them toward disaster.
De’an, the highest-ranking officer among them, punched the wall in frustration. "Damn it! Those bastards gave us false information, and I suspect they’re behind the admiral’s psychic power rampage too."
"Without key evidence, suspicions don’t help. The urgent thing now is to find a way to save the admiral," Rear Admiral Frepe said, rubbing his temples in exasperation.
"To save the admiral, we need to subdue him first. But the admiral has Supergiant-Class psychic and physical power. Unless Prince Cassian is here, who else can subdue him?" Lieutenant Commander Lancelot had lost hope.
"Even if we subdue him, what then? This is a psychic power rampage! Unless we have the newly developed psychic power treatment potion from the Alliance, there’s no hope. But where can we find such a potion now?" Captain Chris grabbed his hair in despair, blaming himself. As the admiral’s aide, he had failed to protect him. If the admiral couldn’t be saved, he felt guilty for the rest of his life.
"Hmm? You need a Psychic Healer?"
The sweet, childlike voice suddenly caught everyone’s attention, and they all turned eyes toward it.
Arix stood there, her expression serious yet calm.
