I don't think the first sage's bloodline only offers him perfect memory as the bloodline patriarch. He can probably also see karmic record much better than Eversmile. He described how he like everything in the format of books like a snapshot. Maybe he just need a karmic reference to pull on that snapshot. In Jake's case, his Jake juice blocks this from working as he sees nothing if he traces to the origin.
