Don't worry too much about the names. My first time reading this novel was pretty hard and I definitely forgot who some people are but you can get through it relatively well. It also got better the longer I read when it comes to remembering names. 

Yes he traveled back in time 500 years but he didn't die. He used his spring autumn circada gu as a means to travel back in time. He would have died if he didn't use it. Through out the novel, you will se that he isn't that overpowered, especially towards later chapters. He's just pretty developed because of his "500 years of experience". I don't think 50 chapters are enough for you to really see what this book has to offer. Try to read the first volume. It's going to take a while because it's like 200 chapters but you will get a better feeling how the novel is gonna be. 

Moreover, the climax of volume 2 is one of the best, around chapter 400-500. I also wanted to stop reading after the first 50 chapters but I'm glad I continued
