Grammer: poorly translated text just one notch above mtl. Colloquial statements and Chinese idioms are left as is and provide a jarring reading experience. Possessive nouns are almost always switched.
Story: the main character generally falls inline with the narrative and acts according to his newly adopted situation. The pacing is sporadic but not overly unreasonable considering the genre. The narrative starts off somewhat unique and fresh but quickly devolved into the usual tropes.
Overall: not at the level where I could recommend someone take time to read this versus other stories with better character development, grammatical consistency and a tighter narrative.
This "writers" / translators work is consistently mid. Imagine whatever story this copies but with noticably worse grammer and mtl level translation.
Do you hate paragraphs? Well come on in because this brain melting translation has one, yes, only one paragraph per chapter. But wait, if you act now we'll also throw in a full chapter detailing the various cultivation stages in superfluous detail and then change the names of said stages a few chapters later. Still not sold? Lets bring in the MC to seal the deal. Looking for someone who believes in the church of plot armor and offers praise to his holyness Deus ex machina? Good! Because we have that in spades. No need to provide a convincing story with character growth and intriguing schemes and plots. Just turn off your brain and let Jesus take the wheel. If the MC can do it, why can't you? Overall, don't waste your time reading this trash. Go for a walk or exercise. Watch a movie or play some games. Whatever you do, don't read this. P.s. In recognition for this stories ground breaking and innovative approach to paragraph deconstructed, this review is formated similarly.
The story has good narrative and pacing. There is a little plot armor mixed in but nothing overly unreasonable. The only negative is the inconsistent character of the MC. Some times he is ruthless in dispatching anyone who so much as gives him bad look yet other times he becomes an absolute pushover with support characters that he processes to dislike. I stopped around ch120 because I can't deal with the humiliation kink the MC is oblivious about.
The story starts off great and has a mature and strong MC where the power dynamics are fairly equal and don't fall into either OP or floor mat. If rated based on the first 90 or so chapters. I would give the story 5 stars. HOWEVER, once you get into chapter 100-120 (on patreon) the MC is given a huge debuff. He loses every positive characteristic and becomes a passenger in his own story, letting others dictate his actions incessantly.
The summary is incredibly misleading. Let me give you a better breakdown: mc with 1940s masculinity and knowledge of the future uses non of this info to exploit his situation and become wealthy and powerful and instead becomes involved in a gang war and works his way up to become his own little boss. Is it good? It's alright. Is it what is described in the summary? No way in hell!
Hot take: Naruto (the character) is the worst part of Naruto (the series.) This story faithfully represents Naruto as the pathetic simp he is. He has zero agency and let's everyone degrade and control him while having a happy go lucky attitude that only a room temp IQ could pull off.
A truly outstanding novel and a breath of fresh air in a dull and unoriginal industry.
The start is a tad slow but by the time you get to chapter 9-10, the action really picks up and hooks the reader. All (yes, even minor supporting) character are well written with very believable motives and feeling. While other writers can't create an MC with 2 brain cells to run together, everyone in this novel behaves like an intelligent adult.
I could easily write a much longer review espousing all the positive but the quick take away is that you most certainly should read this.
An absolute let down compared to the authors other work for two main reasons.
Reason one being the inclusion of a canon accurate Luffy. While other novels treat his intolerable idiocy by way of the MC possessing his body and change his personality too something more palatable or by allowing an op character to deliver some well deserved comeuppance, this story just allows Luffy to interact with the MC in his usual, mentally deficient, manner.
The second mark against the authors usually great writing is the self induced nurfing of the OP character. If the story dictates that the MC be power limited, then simply have him possess the body of a character with appropriate abilities. This story is the equivalent of driving a Lamborghini at 5mph for the sake of plot.
Overall, this is absolutely unfortunate and underwhelming compared to what the author has proven capable of producing.
This is heresy and should be purged with fire. It's another 40k story where the MC (be they primarch, custodes, primaris, etc) act like a normal person but with some buffs. The actual 40k books are out there, read those instead. The emperor would not be happy with this filth.
