Chapter 798: Chapter 795: Must We Bow to Reality?
"Regarding the dismissal of Doctor Lai, we might have to put it on hold for now." Principal Yan hesitated for a long time before finally speaking softly.
It was he who had spoken of firing Lai Xiucheng, and he had personally promised Lin Tian. Now, suddenly saying he wouldn’t do it, Yan Dehui naturally didn’t have the confidence to say it out loud.
Lin Tian was part of the Xiao Family and had once offered him significant benefits that boosted his reputation greatly. Regardless of the reason, Principal Yan felt he should clarify things with Lin Tian.
He had intended to explain this matter face-to-face with Lin Tian, but he truly had no face to confront Lin Tian.
Lin Tian’s gaze flashed, and he smirked, "Is it temporarily on hold? Or are you planning not to fire him at all?"
"Uh, he won’t be fired for a while," Principal Yan said vaguely.
Curious about who had caused this change in Principal Yan, Lin Tian calmly asked, "What incident or who has brought about this change, Principal Yan? From what I remember, you aren’t someone who lacks principles."
That comment implicitly suggested, "You’re behaving unprincipled now," and Yan Dehui certainly understood the implication, though he felt embarrassed to defend himself.
If it had been just an ordinary student, Yan Dehui could have chosen to ignore it, but Lin Tian was no ordinary student. Dealing with Lin Tian felt like a mountainous pressure, even greater than dealing with Miss Xiao of the Xiao Family.
Even though the Xiao Family’s wealth and status far surpassed Lin Tian’s, he somehow felt a bit afraid of Lin Tian. It was unbelievable to say that a principal feared a student of his, and he couldn’t quite explain why. It seemed that there was something about this student that was frightening.
However, when Lin Tian spoke like this, he secretly breathed a sigh of relief, because Lin Tian didn’t burst into anger or hang up the phone but instead gave him a chance to explain.
Principal Yan did not hesitate any longer and explained, "Our school has only one school doctor, and we operate under semi-closed management. The school doctor is quite busy. Headaches, colds, fevers, sprains—these are all common ailments, and with a large base of students, the number who visit the doctor is still quite substantial."
Lin Tian did not interrupt his explanation, and seeing no reaction from Lin Tian, Principal Yan continued, "Since yesterday, the school has implemented complete closed management, and the number of students visiting the medical station has increased. Unfortunately, at this time, Doctor Lai has been hospitalized, leaving us in a very passive situation."
"Did Lai Xiucheng use this situation to negotiate with you, calling off his punishment in exchange for returning?" Lin Tian interjected.
"That’s not the case. I did call Doctor Lai and spoke to him, but he just said he couldn’t come back for now and didn’t make any demands," Principal Yan replied.
Initially, he and Lin Tian had thought the same—that Lai Xiucheng wanted to negotiate terms, but the man made no such demands, leaving him wondering what Lai Xiucheng was really planning.
Yan Dehui continued, "Afterwards, I had a meeting with several school leaders to discuss how to handle this situation. You know, there was a recent incident with parents causing a big scene at the school. If not handled properly, I’m sure it would cause a bigger uproar than last time."
"What did the leaders discuss? Did any of them suggest exempting Lai Xiucheng from punishment and even giving him a raise to win him back?" Lin Tian asked smilingly.
"How did you know?" Principal Yan exclaimed, as Lin Tian’s guess was spot on.
"Since you plan to revoke Lai Xiucheng’s punishment, I just guessed. There must have been some leaders who suggested it," Lin Tian said nonchalantly, but inside he sneered, sure that someone was scheming behind the scenes to make the school leaders speak for Lai Xiucheng, and he felt that person was Sun Decai.
Sun Decai could easily manage such a small matter with his father’s connections.
Principal Yan also said somewhat helplessly, "Indeed, there were school leaders who spoke for Lai Xiucheng at the meeting, but that was inevitable. We were in a rush, and it was already too late to hire a new school doctor, and besides, the salary offered by the school is too low to attract qualified candidates."
"After much discussion, there were still leaders who suggested bringing Lai Xiucheng back, offering him favorable terms: one, revoking his punishment; two, giving him a raise; three, signing a contract for five years without random dismissals," Principal Yan summarized the meeting content, his tone carrying some helplessness.
"Heh, did the leaders stand up for him again?" Lin Tian said lightly.
Principal Yan thought he was talking about Lai Xiucheng, but he didn’t realize that Lin Tian’s "him" referred to Sun Decai.
"Have you signed the contract yet?" Lin Tian asked further.
"Not yet, I was just about to contact Lai Xiucheng to discuss these favorable terms with him. However, before that, I felt you had the right to know about this since I had initially promised you I would discipline Lai Xiucheng," Principal Yan said, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Since the principal is using favorable terms to retain Lai Xiucheng, I assume you also suspect that his hospitalization was intentional?" Lin Tian countered.
Principal Yan sighed again and said helplessly, "I have probably guessed as much, but if we don’t bring him back, we can’t resolve this situation. I hope Lin Tian understands. There are some objective factors we can’t ignore, and we must bow to reality."
After finishing, he waited for Lin Tian’s reaction. He owed his current prestige and status to the Xiao Family and Lin Tian. Yan Dehui was now caught in the middle, finding it very difficult to act as he had to consider the consequences of the issue and the reactions of Lin Tian and the Xiao Family.
"Must we bow to reality?" Lin Tian asked with a hint of a smile.
Yan Dehui had no idea what Lin Tian meant and could only remain silent for the time being.
Lin Tian thought for a moment and then said, "Principal Yan, you mentioned that we just need to wait for the original school doctor to return, and then we won’t need Lai Xiucheng. How long until the original doctor comes back?"
Yan Dehui was stunned, unsure why Lin Tian suddenly asked this, but he still replied honestly, "Seven days. In seven days, after she completes her training, she can return to take over the job. But seven days..."
"Seven days, and the medical station can’t withstand the pressure, right?" Lin Tian finished for him.
"Yes," Yan Dehui admitted. If they couldn’t handle two days, seven days would be impossible. If parents got wind of the situation, it would surely escalate.
"Principal Yan, don’t contact Lai Xiucheng yet. Give me half a day," Lin Tian said calmly, far from the outburst Yan Dehui had anticipated.
Without hesitation, Yan Dehui immediately agreed, "Half a day is no problem. Do you have a plan?" He had an inexplicable expectation for this remarkable student.
"I can’t tell you yet, but by the end of school this afternoon, I will have an answer for you. After that, however you and the school leaders decide to handle it, I won’t object," Lin Tian said, not elaborating any further but making his position clear.
"Alright, I’ll wait for your message," Principal Yan said, ending the call with Lin Tian.
In the parking lot, Lin Tian put away his phone, drove off, and with Xiao Manxuan, who had heard the entire conversation, curiously asked, "Where are we going now?"
