Zombie Bodyguard -
Chapter 782 - 779: At Any Cost?
Chapter 782: Chapter 779: At Any Cost?
"Lin Tian, you better not move, or I’ll cut you," Miss bared her teeth in anger and pressed down on her longsword to show that she meant what she said.
Lin Tian felt a chill down below and his eyes widened. Miss was incredibly fierce, actually threatening him with this. If it had been someone else, Lin Tian could have ignored the threat, his zombie body impervious to blades, but as it was Miss, with her expertise in swordsmanship and a sword light capable of harming a zombie’s body, it would be too late for regrets if she accidentally went too far.
However, Lin Tian couldn’t show weakness, or it would seem like he had a guilty conscience.
So, Lin Tian spread out in a relaxed pose and said calmly to Miss, "Miss, you don’t have to threaten me. I promised I’d explain everything. Oh, by the way, what time is it now?"
"Six thirty, what do you want to do?" Miss asked curiously. When a man’s privates are threatened, shouldn’t he be scared? Why was this bastard still so calm? She was puzzled.
"Oh, nothing, just checking the time. Has Second Miss gotten up yet? If she barges in here and sees you in my room, what do you think she would make of it?" Lin Tian said casually.
Miss’s eyes flickered uncertainly, clearly worried about her sister seeing them, but she still said, "That’s for me to worry about. You should be more concerned about yourself and explain things. Otherwise, I’ll have no choice but to cut you down as a pervert."
"Alright then, long story short, I went up to Second Miss’s room not with any ill intentions but to diagnose the strange energy within her body and see if there was a solution," Lin Tian confessed.
He had originally intended to do this quietly, find the cause and solution, and then inform Miss, but she had caught him in the act and misunderstood.
Hearing that it was about treating Xiao Manxuan, Miss’s expression eased a little, but she still asked skeptically, "I know you’re skilled in acupuncture, but Xuanxuan’s condition has gone beyond the scope of conventional medicine, and even beyond what an Ancient Martial Artist can understand. If even the master couldn’t figure it out, what makes you think you can?"
"Miss, you’ve also seen the Nine Needle Technique; you should know its origins. The legacy of Gui Guzi, is that ordinary medicine?" Lin Tian countered.
"Gui Guzi’s deeds are mostly legends that cannot be verified. Can you prove that the Nine Needle Technique is Gui Guzi’s legacy and not simply someone using his name to elevate their reputation?" Miss asked coolly, not willing to take any chances with her sister’s situation.
In her heart, she hoped that Lin Tian could produce solid proof because it would be good news for Xiao Manxuan.
But Lin Tian shook his head and said, "I indeed have no direct evidence."
The golden scroll of the Nine Needle Technique was mysterious, and the Golden Needle was magical, but this alone could not prove the technique’s lineage from Gui Guzi.
Miss was immediately disappointed. As soon as Lin Tian had spoken, she had believed that he had indeed gone to treat an illness last night and not harbored any lecherous thoughts, but she still had her doubts about his medical skills.
Seeing that Miss was still pressing the longsword against his abdomen, thinking that she still didn’t trust him, Lin Tian suggested, "Miss, if you still don’t trust my innocence, you can open that drawer and check its contents before deciding whether to believe me."
Miss followed Lin Tian’s gaze to the desk drawer, a bit perplexed, yet she withdrew her longsword and walked toward the desk.
Upon opening the drawer, she saw several books inside, the pages old or, rather, rustic.
"Miss, you can have a look at the top two books, but be gentle, they are too old and fragile for rough handling," Lin Tian reminded her.
Miss sheathed her longsword, carefully took out the books, placed them on the desk, and then examined the two volumes closely.
"Pharmacist’s Notes? Shennong Emperor’s Medical Scripture?" Miss murmured softly to herself.
Lin Tian did not respond, allowing her to read slowly. As Miss flipped through the pages, her shock grew greater with each turn. One reason was the antiquity of the "Shennong Emperor’s Medical Scripture"; such books were basically out-of-print ancient volumes. Moreover, the content of both books related to the profession of Pharmacists.
As an Ancient Martial Artist, she naturally knew of the "Pharmacist" profession, an ancient vocation that had all but vanished from current society.
"A Pharmacist, it’s actually a Pharmacist! That Gu Cultivator you met in the Shrine, she was a Pharmacist. If that’s the case, she must have had an Elixir Cauldron—did you not bring it back?" Miss exclaimed in wonder.
"It seems Miss is also aware of the Pharmacist profession. I did indeed bring the Elixir Cauldron back; it’s currently in the Xiao Mansion," Lin Tian said truthfully.
"Pharmacists are a mystical profession. The Xiao Family’s Elixir Recipes might have been invented by Pharmacists. That’s why I thought the Elixir Recipe might help Xuanxuan. I never expected you would have ancient Pharmacist texts and their research notes!" Miss said with some excitement.
"So, Miss believes that my visit to Second Miss’s room was to treat her illness, not for any licentious conduct?" Lin Tian asked.
Miss felt her cheeks flush with color, regretting her misunderstanding of Lin Tian, and her previous impulse to exact a cutting punishment on particular parts of him. Right now, she truly wished she could disappear into a hole in the ground.
She could only mutter in a soft voice, "I... for now, I believe you."
"Then, do you still wish to proceed with the cutting?" Lin Tian saw her blushing face and teased her on purpose.
Miss, although ashamed, was irritated by Lin Tian’s teasingly annoying manner and said with some annoyance, "Hmph, I’ll let you off for now. If you dare have any bad intentions in the future, I will still be ready to cut..." She swung her sword in a cutting motion, putting on a threatening air.
Lin Tian pretended not to notice, thinking that the little girl just couldn’t swallow her pride. He didn’t call her out on it but instead smiled and said, "In that case, wait for the good news from me, Miss. There’s a lead on the matter, and I will inform you about it."
"Can you really cure Xuanxuan? I am willing to pay any price to heal her!" Miss said, both surprised and resolute.
"Any price?" Lin Tian smiled and asked, "Even if it requires your, dedication?"
"Compared to Xuanxuan’s life, anything else is trivial," Miss said lightly.
Lin Tian stepped closer to her, his face wearing a mischievous smirk. As Miss met his gaze, her cheeks flushed red again. Being extremely intelligent, she could easily guess what Lin Tian was thinking.
She gripped the hilt of her sword tightly then relaxed her hold, struggling for a moment before the sword finally drooped down, and her eyes closed. Her long eyelashes trembled gently, and her facial expression was tense, yet it carried a sense of noble sacrifice.
But after being tense for quite a while, seeing Lin Tian make no move, curiosity got the better of her, and she couldn’t help but open her eyes.
Miss found Lin Tian looking at her with an amused expression, causing her face to grow even redder.
"Miss, closing your eyes—what were you thinking of doing?" Lin Tian asked with a slight smile.
"I, I... you... didn’t you want to..." Miss, still a maiden unaccustomed to such suggestions, found herself stumbling over her words, unable to articulate them clearly.
