Chapter 644: Chapter 641: Terror
"Damn, what kind of Japanese sword is this? So long!" Lin Tianqi muttered to himself, grabbing the Japanese sword and standing up, completely ignoring the blow to his chest.
Lin Tian had seen many Japanese swords, some long and some short, the long ones generally reaching the waist, but the one he held reached up to his chest. Note, Lin Tian was over 1.8 meters tall.
Generally, Japanese swords used in actual combat aren’t that long, unless the wielder has a specific set of skills for long swords; otherwise, it would be cumbersome to use.
Moreover, this sword was originally held in the hands of a statue, so Lin Tian believed it was more likely decorative than practical for battle.
However, the Japanese sword was very old, with dust on the scabbard and many scratches, making it hard to identify the material of the scabbard. If it was used to worship a statue, it should have been cleaned regularly. Why was it so worn out? Lin Tian was unsure.
He gripped the long hilt, wanting to pull it out to take a closer look, but he couldn’t move it after one try.
"Stop!" Oda Manaka’s voice suddenly came, sounding urgent, as if worried Lin Tian wouldn’t understand, she shouted again, "Don’t pull it out!"
Oda Manaka walked in, followed by three Fox Concubines. Strangely, Oda Manaka ignored the shattered statue and instead focused nervously on the Japanese sword in Lin Tian’s hand.
"A rusty old sword, why the fuss—it won’t even come out," Lin Tian said nonchalantly, puzzled by Oda Manaka’s tense expression.
Hearing that Lin Tian couldn’t pull it out, Oda Manaka breathed a sigh of relief and cautiously said, "This sword is for ceremonial use, you cannot just pull it out. Give it back to me."
"For ceremonial use?" Lin Tian became even more puzzled. What kind of ceremony would use a Japanese sword, a ritual that sacrifices humans? Is this sword specifically used for beheading?
Some eerie ceremonial rituals, using live humans as sacrificial animals, decapitating them as one would cut the heads off chickens or cows.
"Exactly, it’s for ceremonial purposes, part of the Sun Shadow Association’s strange rituals," Oda Manaka further explained.
But Lin Tian noticed that since Oda Manaka had entered, her expression had not relaxed for a moment.
This sword must have some strange feature, could it be the treasure of the Sun Shadow Association? Lin Tian thought to himself, if it’s the Association’s treasure, there’s no way they would just let it go.
"Since it’s for ceremonial use, I’ll just pull it out to take a look. There shouldn’t be any harm in that. With your intelligence, you should know that a ceremony is just a ritual," Lin Tian said, then again he pulled hard on the hilt.
But the sword did not budge—it simply wouldn’t come out!
Startled by his action, once Lin Tian finally pulled it out, Oda Manaka immediately shouted to the three Female Demons, "Stop him quick, take the sword back!"
The three Fox Concubines exchanged glances, sensing the oddity, but they still followed Oda Manaka’s orders.
Zhen Nv’s hair swirled towards the Japanese sword, Ghost Princess pulled out the Crescent Blade from nowhere, aiming it at Lin Tian’s arm in conjunction with Zhen Nv, while Fox Concubine leaped forward trying to snatch it up close.
Knowing Zhen Nv’s hair could be tricky, Lin Tian dodged the swirling hair while using the Japanese sword in his hand to block the incoming Crescent Blade.
With a "clang," the Crescent Blade struck the scabbard, emitting a sharp sound, and it was sent flying to the side, but the scabbard remained completely undamaged!
The sharpness of the Crescent Blade was something Lin Tian had experienced before; it could cut through stone as easily as it cut through tofu. But surprisingly, it couldn’t make a scratch on the scabbard.
It’s definitely a treasure, Lin Tian immediately determined. The force he had just used was enough to pull a car, yet it couldn’t pull out a single sword. What else could this sword be if not a treasure?
He punched and forced the Fox Concubine back. Cunning as she was, she hardly put in any effort and retreated as soon as they clashed. This allowed Lin Tian another glance at the sword, and upon closer inspection, he noticed a strip of cloth wrapped around the sword’s handle.
When forging swords, the Swordsmith would wrap silver wires or cloth strips around the handle to prevent it from slipping, so Lin Tian initially thought the cloth was part of the handle.
But now, seeing that the cloth strip was dark and didn’t seem to be for slip prevention, he found the end of the cloth and gave it a hard tug, pulling the strip away.
Little did he know, as soon as Lin Tian pulled at the cloth strip, the black cloth suddenly turned into powder, like the fabrics unearthed in ancient tombs that turned to ashes upon contact with air.
"This... Sister Li, it wasn’t my fault. The sword is broken; the cloth strip shattered with just a gentle pull," Lin Tian said innocently, blinking his eyes as he saw her anxiety.
"You... you’ve actually broken the seal!" Oda Manaka said nervously.
She didn’t seem like someone who easily got scared, but her nervousness in that moment left Lin Tian even more confused. Shaking his head, he ignored her, gripped the handle with his right hand again, and pulled hard, wanting to see if he could pull the sword out again.
This time, using more strength, the katana was easily pulled out with a "whoosh," causing Lin Tian, who had exerted too much force, to nearly stumble as he spun halfway around.
"Crap, what a crappy sword, messing with me," Lin Tian steadied himself and looked directly at the blade, swearing loudly as soon as he saw it clearly.
It wasn’t that Lin Tian was uncivilized, but the entire blade of the katana was rusted—it really was a crappy sword! Holding the sword, Lin Tian swung it lightly, and the rust flakes fell off in chunks.
Oda Manaka saw Lin Tian swing the sword and immediately stepped back a few paces, and the Female Demons followed suit.
"A crappy sword, and look how scared you all are." Lin Tian held the handle and swung it a few more times, causing the four women to step back again.
Sensing their apprehension, Lin Tian chuckled appreciatively and, holding the sword, jumped down from the stone platform, advancing toward the women.
"You... don’t come any closer!" Oda Manaka said anxiously.
"Keep yelling, even if you shout till your throat breaks, no one will save you. Heh heh..." Lin Tian advanced, laughing sinisterly, acting like a bully tormenting young girls.
"Don’t you feel anything?" Oda Manaka backed away further. Seeing Lin Tian just laughing sinisterly, she asked, puzzled.
"I feel like you four are like little bunnies, just keep still and wait for me to come over," Lin Tian continued to advance, chuckling.
These three women were no simple characters; under normal circumstances, upon hearing Lin Tian’s harassments, they would have exploded in rage, screaming and calling for a fight, but instead, their expressions were somewhat strange, as if remembering something.
"This isn’t right, it shouldn’t be like this, could it really be damaged from being kept too long?" Oda Manaka muttered to herself.
As Lin Tian advanced, the four women retreated. Soon, they had retreated out of the temple and arrived at the courtyard of the iron cage mechanism, which was right outside the main hall.
At that moment, the moon was directly overhead, and the moonlight seemed brighter than before. Standing under the moonlight, Lin Tian felt a familiar sensation because moonlight was one of the sources of zombie energy.
But before he could enjoy the comfort, the katana in his hand suddenly lit up with a red glow.
