Chapter 468: Chapter 467 Pest Control (Part 1)
Being seen through by a younger person in private matters made Fang Ming’s cheeks flush slightly, even with her usually graceful and generous demeanor. She and Ning Weiguo had not seen each other for years, and now they were reunited. It is said that a short parting is better than a new marriage, but this was far more than just a short absence; it surpassed even a wedding night.
She glared at Lin Tian and then, assuming her usual class demeanor, addressed the whole class, "Class, according to reliable information, there was an unidentified explosion in the suburbs of Xikou City last night, and recently there have been anti-terrorism exercises in the city area. I hope you all reduce going out at night to avoid accidents. Understand?"
Lin Tian’s mind stirred. This had happened just last night and he believed it would not be long before word spread. Without doubt, Fang Ming must have learned something from Ning Weiguo.
Although the abandoned factory area was desolate, the power of the Japanese self-detonated explosions must have been heard by nearby villages.
As for how the police would explain it, Lin Tian did not need to worry about that. They would simply say it was part of anti-terrorism drills, no need for panic, or if they went further, they would claim they had caught a criminal gang in the abandoned factory area.
Some things, even if reported in the news, are not necessarily the whole truth.
"Yesterday, I even saw a SWAT armored vehicle; it was so cool, too bad I didn’t get a chance to take a picture with it," a boy whispered.
"Psh, seeing that on the street is nothing strange. A couple of days ago, I saw fully armed SWAT outside the Night Rose Bar. I even took a distant photo of them; they were all masked, but man, they looked cool."
"Really? Show me, what was fully-armed SWAT doing at the bar?"
"I heard it was for anti-terrorism training, but who knows, it’s all military secrets! Hehe, I got to check out the Night Rose Bar sometime."
"Forget it, with you being a high school student going to a bar, watch out or your dad will smack you."
...
Lin Tian heard all these whispered exchanges and shook his head with amusement. He had been inside then, and of course knew what was going on; simply put, it was Ning Weiguo coming to negotiate.
If one must be strict, it could be considered a secret, as it involved actions against the Sun Shadow Association. Of course, even the Miss didn’t quite understand it at the time.
"Everybody quiet down, get ready for class," Fang Ming clapped her hands, loudly commanding everyone to settle down.
The literature class continued, still focusing on exam key points, and the morning session passed quickly. At noon when school let out, Lin Tian received a text from an unknown number.
"Tonight at seven, South Ocean Crafts Shop."
The message only had a time and a place, not specifying the matter, but upon seeing the name of the South Ocean Crafts Shop, Lin Tian paused, feeling the shop name oddly familiar, then he remembered—it was the territory of the Gu Cultivator granny, Li Qingyun.
However, when he thought of this supposed granny, the image that came to mind was not of an old woman with white hair, but a beautiful woman in her thirties.
The image was as strange as strange could be; a mortal achieving eternal youth - who knew what price she had paid to achieve that.
"Lin Tian, what message has got you so engrossed?" Xiao Manxuan came over and asked curiously. When she saw the message on the phone, she drew out a long "Oh," "Bad boy, are you going on a date?"
"How could it be a date? Would anyone choose the South Ocean Crafts Shop for a date?" Lin Tian immediately shook his head to deny it.
"Are you kidding me?" Although Li Yue was beautiful, the place sold terrifying and bizarre merchandise. The owner was even a Gu Cultivator. It seriously lacked any romantic atmosphere for a date; instead, it was full of horror.
Lin Tian told Xiao Manxuan about the location of the South Ocean craft store and its products, including animal specimens soaked in an unknown solution.
As expected, she tightened her lips in fear, her little face shadowed with fright.
Yet there was curiosity in her eyes as she said, "Such strange things, I have to see them. There are such weird streets in Xikou City, how did I not know about it?"
Lin Tian thought to himself, you are Missy, Mrs. Xiao and Miss wouldn’t possibly allow you to go to such a place. Living in Xikou City for eighteen years, there must be many places you haven’t yet visited.
"Come on, you bad boy, take me there," Xiao Manxuan pleaded, tugging at Lin Tian’s sleeve, looking quite pitiful.
Having resorted to the coquetry often used on Missy, Lin Tian felt helpless and had to say, "I should clarify that I have business there, and if you end up crying because you’re scared, don’t blame me for not warning you."
"Hmph, you underestimate me. I’ve seen vampires, am I supposed to be afraid of a few terrifying crafts?" Xiao Manxuan stood with her hands on her hips, thrusting out her full chest and lifting her chin defiantly.
Lin Tian didn’t explain anything. Seeing a vampire was one thing—they looked just like humans, and all handsome or beautiful at that—but bugs were different. Women were naturally afraid of snakes and creepy crawlies; he hoped she wouldn’t start screaming then.
The afternoon class was an English mock test; whoever finished the test could leave school early. Lin Tian, usually finding English tests easy, thought he could be the first to hand in his paper but, just when half the time had passed, that little girl, Xiao Manxuan, had already submitted hers.
She was generally low-key, but now handing in her paper so much earlier than expected stunned everyone, including Lin Tian and the invigilating Liu Ruming.
For the sake of going out, she had revealed her true capabilities; although she was already ranked first by age, this time she showed her true strength.
When the little girl handed in her paper, she winked at Lin Tian as if to say, "Stop pretending, hurry up and write."
It seems I can’t keep a low profile either. I’m like gold, shining wherever I am, Lin Tian thought smugly, and then swiftly wrote down the last word of his English essay. Without even checking, he too submitted his paper.
Behind him came the moans of Fatty Huang: "Brother Tian, with you being so fast, do us average top students even have a chance to live?"
Liu Ruming took the papers, smiled at him, and Lin Tian innocently blinked at her before turning and leaving the classroom, leaving a helpless Liu Ruming behind.
Xiao Manxuan had been eagerly waiting outside. As soon as Lin Tian emerged, they dashed to the school parking lot and drove to the craft street she was so excited to explore.
Arriving at the craft street, it was still not even five o’clock, so Lin Tian and she walked through it. Like a bird long confined to a cage, now free, she pulled Lin Tian here and there, amazed by any peculiar craft item they came upon.
Heh, the best is yet to come, Lin Tian thought to himself, seeing her fearless reaction to the bizarre crafts.
After about half an hour, they reached their destination, the South Ocean craft store. As usual, the little girl rushed in first, and Lin Tian followed.
No sooner had he entered than the little girl screamed. She dashed out even faster, leaping into Lin Tian’s arms and clinging tightly to him without letting go.
