Chapter 431: Chapter 430: Human or Ghost?

"Damn it, Brother Lin, can you not scare people like that? Look, there’s a separate room in the backyard, the window is covered by a curtain, and the curtains are drawn in broad daylight. All these things, don’t you find them eerie? Now with what you just mentioned, I feel the yin energy is a bit heavy here." Zhou Botong shrank his neck and said softly, "Do you think Mr. Qi might be dead and this is a morgue?"

Lin Tian turned his head, staring at him unblinkingly, and intentionally trembled his voice, "It’s very likely, otherwise why is there no one in the backyard? Maybe the body is even contagious!"

"That’s creepy. How about we leave and come back after we’ve figured things out?" Zhou Botong whispered.

"Figure out what? The hospital couldn’t find what was wrong; we’re already here, let’s go inside. Are you scared now?" Lin Tian said nonchalantly, taunting.

"Who said I was scared? Even if there are ghosts, I’d capture them. Besides, don’t you always claim you’re a virgin? It’s time to test the power of your child’s urine," Zhou Botong said defiantly.

"Ghosts would be scared of me; there’s no need for child’s urine," Lin Tian responded dismissively, then pointed at the lock on the door, "Can you pick this lock? If I force it open, those two women might notice afterwards, and it would be bad if Mr. Qi were moved."

"I can, but I don’t have any tools on me, at least give me a piece of wire or something," Zhou Botong said, patting his pockets in vain.

I really didn’t expect this guy to know how to pick locks, but for someone who loves tinkering like him, it’s not strange to know some quirky stuff.

Lin Tian thought for a moment, rolled up his sleeve, and took off a gold wire, "Will this do?"

"Let me see." Zhou Botong curiously took the gold wire, twisted it a few times with his hands, and exclaimed, "Damn, this is good stuff. It bends if you want it soft, stiffens if you want it hard, it’s even better than a man’s thing, perfect for picking locks. What’s it made of?"

Nonsense, it’s an antique from thousands of years ago, definitely good stuff, but honestly, Lin Tian didn’t know what material it was made of, so he casually bluffed, "Some kind of special alloy, super memory metal or something. Stop dawdling, hurry up and pick the lock."

"Super memory metal, awesome stuff. With this, lock picking is a breeze," Zhou Botong said as he turned around, crouched down, and examined the lock before inserting the gold wire into the keyhole and fiddling around a bit.

Lin Tian, with his keen ears, heard a ’click’, and the lock sprung open.

"Damn, I’ve set a new record for fastest lock picking; I need to get myself a piece of this stuff to play with," Zhou Botong said excitedly, then reluctantly handed the gold wire back to Lin Tian.

After retrieving the gold wire, Lin Tian gently pushed the door open, and it creaked, opening a crevice wide enough for a person to slip through.

A cold breeze suddenly surged from inside the door, causing Lin Tian to frown. Wondering where the cold breeze came from, Zhou Botong couldn’t help but shiver.

"Crap, such a heavy yin energy," Zhou Botong shivered, not sure if it was from the cold or from fear.

Lin Tian, not having used his x-ray vision, didn’t know what was happening inside, but he still walked through the opened door crevice. Zhou Botong, though scared, could only follow.

The room’s windows were covered with thick black curtains, making it very dark inside. Only the light from outside allowed them to vaguely see the room’s interior.

Of course, none of this was difficult for Lin Tian, whose eyes could see clearly in the dark. But Zhou Botong struggled, barely able to make out vague shadows.

Strangely enough, Mr. Qi, who had been lying on the bed, was gone!

"Let’s open the door," Zhou Botong whispered.

"No, Qi Dapeng forbade light in this room; there must be a reason," Lin Tian said, stopping him and then completely closing the door.

The room suddenly plunged into complete darkness, with visibility reduced to less than an arm’s length.

"Lin... Brother Lin, what is that... that thing up there?" Zhou Botong suddenly said with a tremble, involuntarily moving closer to Lin Tian, who could feel his body shaking.

On the ceiling inside, there were two glowing dots—one red and one green—just floating in mid-air, resembling the eyes of a ghost staring down at them, an image that made Zhou Botong’s heart pound wildly with terror.

"That’s all the courage you have." Lin Tian looked up and, seeing clearly, chuckled and shook his head, "It’s the air conditioner’s indicator light. The room is so cold because the air conditioning is set very low. Now you understand, don’t you?"

"Damn, so that was it. You scared me to death," Zhou Botong exclaimed with a huge sigh of relief upon hearing this explanation.

Before he could feel relieved, Lin Tian added, "However, something very strange happened—the Mr. Qi who was originally lying on the bed has disappeared."

"What? How do you know Mr. Qi was originally on the bed?" Zhou Botong’s heart tightened again, he asked softly.

Lin Tian was stunned; he had seen it through X-ray vision and had accidentally blurted it out.

But he was quick to respond, immediately replying, "Didn’t I discuss it with Qi Dapeng? He told me so."

"Oh, I see. Where did Mr. Qi go then?" Zhou Botong turned around to search the area, but it was in vain; he couldn’t see anything clearly in the room.

In the darkness, Zhou Botong unconsciously moved his feet forward, walking further inside, yet he himself did not know which direction he was going. Lin Tian could see him heading towards the bed but didn’t pay it any attention.

"Brother Lin, why are you grabbing my foot?" Zhou Botong standing by the bed suddenly said. He couldn’t see anything but felt his foot being grasped.

"No, I’m still three meters away from you..." Lin Tian was about to use his X-ray vision to scan the room when he was interrupted by Zhou Botong’s sudden remark, prompting him to respond.

But midway through his response, Lin Tian froze because a hand had emerged from under the bed, gripping Zhou Botong’s ankle. The hand that stretched out from under the bed was withered, the nails unusually long, and the entire hand appeared pale and bloodless.

"Lin... Brother Lin, you said you were three meters away?" Zhou Botong also froze, recuperating a few seconds later, and couldn’t help but exclaim in fright, "Damn, I’ve encountered a ghost."

After saying that, he tried to run but tripped over, falling flat on his face. Desperately, he kicked with his other foot, finally freeing himself from the grip of the withered hand and scrambling away.

Lin Tian grabbed him and whispered urgently, "Don’t move, it’s me."

"Is it you? That was terrifying, why didn’t you come to help me?" Zhou Botong said, shivering from the aftermath.

"You weren’t going to die, what’s there to be afraid of?" Lin Tian scorned, this guy had been all bravado before coming.

"Let me see what the hell it is," Zhou Botong said, regaining his courage, and pulled a lighter out of his pocket, ready to ignite it.

"I advise you not to look; you might not be able to sleep at night," Lin Tian kindly suggested.

Zhou Botong didn’t heed the advice and lit the lighter anyways. There was no wind in the room, and the small flame quietly burned, casting a dim yellow light that barely illuminated the area in front.

Holding the lighter close for a better look, a disheveled entity slowly crawled out from under the bed.
