Chapter 409: Chapter 408: I’m Still Too Low-key
"Brother Lin, what did you say?" Stone couldn’t believe what he heard and asked in shock.
"I said, all six of you come at me together," Lin Tian repeated.
Thunder Wolf also snapped back to reality, his lips still wet and unclean, and said to Ning Weiguo, "Boss, I take back what I said earlier, this fight won’t even last half an hour."
In his view, a Martial Arts master might be great in competitions, but mercenaries are killers, which is not on the same level.
Mercenaries don’t learn those complex and fancy moves; they learn killing skills that aim to kill the enemy as efficiently as possible, which is very cruel and bloody.
"Thunder Wolf, let’s just wait and see," Ning Weiguo said indifferently without explanation.
Stone’s other five teammates were infuriated. While they admired Lin Tian’s words, admiration aside, their own strength being challenged, no, being disregarded entirely, suddenly ignited a spark of anger in them that kept growing fiercer.
Stone also narrowed his eyes and said in a low voice, "Brother Lin, don’t try to provoke us. As hired mercenaries, my ultimate goal is to knock down the enemy, and I don’t mind outnumbering them, so..."
Stone didn’t finish his sentence, but with a wave of his hand, the other five mercenaries got the signal and quickly moved forward, forming a loose circle around Lin Tian.
Their positions seemed chaotic and disorganized, spaced unevenly, but from the steps above, Thunder Wolf squinted his eyes, recognizing this as a combined attack formation.
In TV and movies, when enemies gang up on the main character, they always stand in a circle like they rehearsed it, which looks very stupid and fake, either the enemies are dumb, or the director is clueless.
When a pack of wolves surrounds their prey, do they line up to attack? Obviously not. The way wolves hunt might seem disorderly, but there’s a method to it.
They have attackers who draw fire, stealth attackers responsible for the lethal strike, and even the gaps they seem to leave might be more dangerous traps.
It’s not that wolves are smarter than humans, but living in the harsh conditions of nature for centuries has taught them how to effectively surround and kill prey.
The tactic used by these six mercenaries was similar to the hunting strategies of a wolf pack, or rather, they were like a pack of wolves.
"Boss, look at him, a student who practiced Martial Arts for a few years and thinks he’s invincible. He actually wants to take on six alone, thinking he could handle it," Thunder Wolf said, shaking his head in disappointment.
"Haha, Thunder Wolf, how about we make a bet?" Ning Weiguo chuckled, not arguing, but smiling instead.
"How shall we bet?" Thunder Wolf asked, intrigued.
Ning Weiguo eyed him and said, "I heard your family owns an old liquor factory, and your dad brought you a couple of bottles of cellar-aged liquor last time he visited. If you lose the bet, I don’t ask for much, just one bottle will do."
"This... this, Boss, you knew that too? You have a keen nose, but I only have one bottle left and haven’t even had the heart to drink it," Thunder Wolf said, slightly troubled.
"If you win the bet, I’ll have Xixi go easy on you guys during sparring sessions. Think about it?" Ning Weiguo posed it as a question, but his tone was very confident, as if he was sure Thunder Wolf would agree.
Indeed, Thunder Wolf’s expression changed as if recalling something terrifying. The other squad members quickly looked at Thunder Wolf with eager expressions that all said one thing, "Brother Lei, please agree, our happiness depends on you."
"Alright, no problem. For my brothers, I’ll go for it," Thunder Wolf shouted dramatically.
Ning Luoxi could only watch her father make bets, her eyes also showing helplessness. Her father, strict during training, mingled with the warriors normally, something she herself could not do.
At that moment, in the training field, Lin Tian stood casually in the middle, embodying leisure, not bothering to defend himself. Stone could not figure out what Lin Tian was planning, but he still gave the order to attack.
He stretched out two fingers, making a gesture that seemed to have been perfectly coordinated beforehand, causing two mercenaries to suddenly accelerate, rushing towards Lin Tian, one attacking from the left and the other from the right.
Their sudden burst of speed was extremely fast, and in a few strides, they reached right in front of Lin Tian, one targeting the neck and the other aiming for the ribs.
Both spots were vulnerable areas of the body; a strong external force hitting these areas would essentially incapacitate a person, especially a hand chop to the neck, which could knock a person unconscious.
Their strikes were resolute; their hands were about to hit Lin Tian, but he remained unmoved.
"Crack, crack," two hits landed on Lin Tian’s ribcage and carotid artery, neither lethal, but definitely enough to knock a person down.
"It’s over!" Thunder Wolf slapped his thigh and exclaimed, "I told you, that kid completely missed their movements, not even able to dodge or block."
The special forces also revealed smiles of surprise, not because they were happy that Lin Tian was knocked down, but because they had won the bet. Facing Ning Luoxi’s ruthless training, at least they could suffer a little less. It was not that they couldn’t endure the hardships, but rather that Ning Luoxi was excessively harsh.
Workers in the distance also emitted various jeers, having expected a good fight, only to find that the young man was all talk, lacking real skill.
The two attackers quickly retreated after their strikes, coldly watching Lin Tian about to collapse.
"You can hit a bit harder, I can still take it," Lin Tian acknowledged honestly, yet his words were incredibly cocky.
This scene stunned everyone. Not falling after a rib hit could only mean that this person had a high tolerance for physical impact, but not passing out from a strong hit to the neck was astonishing.
As for the mercenaries’ accuracy and force, no one doubted it, but Lin Tian just wouldn’t fall, still managing to talk with ease and without changing his expression!
Thunder Wolf and his teammates couldn’t believe their eyes. According to anatomy, a heavy blow to the side of the neck where major arteries and the vagus nerve are located could cause brain nerves to be stimulated and the brain to experience temporary ischemia and hypoxia, making a person instantly pass out.
Yet what they witnessed completely contradicted their knowledge, Lin Tian showed no abnormal signs.
"Brother Lin, the Ghost Captain said you were even tougher than him; I didn’t believe it, but now I’m starting to," Stone said, his surprise momentary as a fiercer fighting spirit burst forth from his eyes.
"Only starting to believe?" Lin Tian laughed self-deprecatingly, "It seems I’ve been too low-key. If I don’t demonstrate some sincerity, you still won’t be completely convinced."
"What did you say?" Stone asked, puzzled by what Lin Tian meant by ’sincerity,’ but he soon found out.
Lin Tian moved his foot slightly, stepped forward, and quickly closed the gap between him and Stone. Stone only saw a blur, unable to discern the movement, but he still reflexively assumed a defensive stance, his hands guarding his vital parts.
Yet he felt no attack; suddenly a voice came from behind him.
"Not bad reflexes."
Startled, Stone thought to turn around, but suddenly his neck hurt, and he lost consciousness.
