Chapter 393: Chapter 392: The Fight Begins
Appraisal certificate? Lin Tian was genuinely stunned this time. The jewelry set was clearly high ice jadeite of Imperial Green, how could it come with a certificate for glass-type Emperor Green?
Seeing Lin Tian’s bewilderment, Qian Fula’s smile grew even wider, thinking, ’You’re still too green, kid. Don’t think you can run wild on the Bai Family’s turf just because you know a thing or two.’
"Heh, kid, how about it? I didn’t lie to you, did I? There’s a certificate and everything; surely it can’t be fake," Qian Fula chuckled, his mode of address downgrading from ’sir’ to ’kid,’ a substantial drop in respect.
"It’s understandable for a youngster to make a wrong judgement; after all, you haven’t seen much of the good stuff and your experience is limited. But with more practice, you’ve still got a promising future ahead, heh. Kid, it’s just one oversight, don’t get discouraged," Qian Fula said with an ostensibly amiable laugh, offering Lin Tian a piece of advice as if he were a senior. But his eyes betrayed less friendly intentions, clearly displaying contempt.
In his view, this young man might know a thing or two, but was just half-baked and all about showing off—a common flaw among the youth, and he had seen plenty of that.
To people like him, who had to claw their way up over decades, it was galling to think that these youngsters could be impressive without putting in the years. Why bother with decades of experience if that were the case?
This is a typical mentality among some older individuals; they can’t stand seeing youngsters outdo them or regard them as naive and limited in experience.
Lin Tian turned his head and whispered to Miss, "Miss, what’s going on? It’s clearly just high ice jadeite, so why is there an appraisal certificate?"
"You haven’t been in the jade industry for long. Although you are quite impressive, there are some under-the-table rules you’re still unaware of. High ice jadeite is generally treated as glass-type by merchants," the Miss replied with a sigh, expressing her helplessness.
"Moreover, the Bai Family has certain influences in the Jewelry Association, so obtaining appraisal certificates isn’t difficult. The whole industry operates this way, so insiders don’t expose each other. And those discerning rich clients, they know what’s what. Why would they bother with this kind of thing? Over time, it has become the rule," she continued, sounding resigned.
"Does Xiao Jewelry Store also do this?" Lin Tian asked, feeling somewhat disappointed.
"Hmph, what kind of person do you take me, Xiao Manxue, for? It’s out of my hands what others do. Within my own domain, I absolutely do not allow such things to happen!" Miss snapped at Lin Tian with a stern glare. However, she soon let out a deflated sigh, "Besides, our Xiao Family’s source of jadeite rough has been controlled by the Bai Family. We don’t even have access to high ice Imperial Green jadeite, so how could we attempt to pass it off as something else."
So that was it. Lin Tian suddenly had an epiphany. Industry unwritten rules? Customs? What I like best is breaking the rules!
"Manager Qian, you say this is top-notch jadeite. It seems you really have never seen what top-notch jadeite looks like," Lin Tian said dismissively, glancing at the jewelry set.
Qian Fula, who was in the midst of gloating, was suddenly choked by Lin Tian’s comment. He paused to catch his breath, ready to retaliate, but Lin Tian had already turned away, not giving him a second glance.
"Miss, take out the item in your pocket. I didn’t expect you to carry something so valuable with you," Lin Tian suggested, having glimpsed something inside her pocket with barely a look.
The Miss gave him a curious glance; how did this rascal know she was carrying it? But without asking further, she reached into her pocket and pulled out an object in her hand.
Lin Tian took it from her, holding it in his palm—it was the egg-sized glass-type Imperial Green jadeite, the very piece he had won from the Bai Family.
"Manager Qian, take a look. If your jewelry is top-notch jadeite, then what does this make this piece?" Lin Tian posed, leisurely holding the jadeite up to Qian Fula’s view.
In the light, the jadeite emitted a soft green glow, crystal clear, and the disparity was evident when compared to the jewelry in the red sandalwood box.
"This is..." Qian Fula’s eyes widened in shock.
The audience also became restless, as they had initially found the jewelry to be very beautiful without comparison. But now, when they compared them, the difference in transparency was obvious.
"Manager Qian, now do you know who has less experience and knowledge? Yes, this is what top-quality jade looks like, and your jewelry is inferior passed off as superior, even the certificates are fake!" Lin Tian said loudly, so everyone could hear.
"I..." Qian Fula was at a loss for words, unsure of how to respond, as beads of sweat formed on his forehead.
How could he have imagined that members of the Xiao Family would carry top-quality jade worth tens or even hundreds of millions while out shopping?
"Hey, Manager Qian, what’s going on, you owe us an explanation?"
"Yeah, the jade in this gentleman’s hand is obviously of a higher quality than your jewelry. You claimed it was top-quality jade; were you deceiving us sisters?" The woman with an updo stared at the jade in Lin Tian’s hand with shining eyes, yet expressed her dissatisfaction vocally.
"Bai’s Jewelry has been passing off inferior products as superior and deceiving customers. We demand an explanation. Perhaps the other pieces of jewelry are also fakes; we demand re-verification!"
"No, I bought mine last month; I want a refund!"
...
Anger is contagious, and once the news spread that Bai’s Jewelry was passing off inferior products, all the customers who had made purchases there became furiously vocal. The entire store descended into chaos, and if things continued like this, it might escalate into vandalism.
"Quick, report to Mr. Bai immediately; there’s an emergency at the Spiritual Treasure Pavilion," Qian Fula instructed one of the servers in a low, panicked voice.
Then he gestured with his hand, and six or seven security guards who were on standby surrounded the crowd, trying to prevent the situation from spiraling further out of control. However, this action only added fuel to the fire.
The customers here were all people of status. Not all were extremely wealthy, but they all had decent economic means. Being surrounded by security as if they were criminals was something they simply couldn’t tolerate.
Some of the men started shoving the security guards which escalated quickly. The security guards even pulled out stun guns and knocked one man to the ground, causing the women in the crowd to scream in fright and shrink back.
These weren’t ordinary security guards from some everyday security company; they were trained by the Bai Family themselves. In keeping with the Bai Family’s style, the guards in the store were not afraid to act ruthlessly.
As one person fell, the guard with the stun gun went to strike again, but suddenly felt light on his feet, unable to muster any strength, as he was hoisted into the air.
"To actually use a stun gun on a guest, hmph!" Lin Tian snorted coldly, holding the security guard up with one hand.
"Let go," the nearest security guard demanded, his expression ferociously fierce, nothing like an ordinary security guard.
He didn’t bother with reason at all and swung his stun gun toward Lin Tian’s waist. In his attempt to subdue Lin Tian, he didn’t even consider his colleague and used the stun gun directly.
Lin Tian didn’t even glance at it; he just reached out and grabbed it. With a light "snap", his arm tingled slightly, but he was completely unharmed, while the security guard held in his hand rolled his eyes back and fell unconscious from the electric shock.
