Chapter 331: Chapter 330: Dropping Out

"Don’t remember? Then do you remember who introduced you to the association?" Lin Tian was even more surprised and continued to ask, as it was baffling that Wenshan knew nothing about his own society.

To be accurate, it wasn’t that he knew nothing, but for some reason, he had forgotten; however, considering Su Wenshan didn’t seem like someone with extremely poor memory, it was perplexing why he would forget such an essential matter.

"Little brother, you aren’t lying to me, are you?" Su Qingqing was the first to disbelieve, as she had never seen her brother having such poor memory.

"Qingqing, looking at your brother’s expression, it doesn’t seem like he is lying. It must be true. Wenshan, think again, where is the headquarters of the Sun Shadow Association?" Lin Tian stared at Su Wenshan as he spoke.

"Headquarters? It seems I’ve been there, but I really forgot," Su Wenshan thought for a while, eventually gave up, and shook his head.

It was too strange; perhaps Su Wenshan was cursed, as he didn’t even know where he had joined the society; Lin Tian couldn’t understand it either.

If it had been earlier, such a matter would be inexplicable and could only be attributed to Su Wenshan lying. But after encountering vampires, flying swords, Ancient Martial Artists, and being a zombie himself, causing someone to lose part of their memory wasn’t impossible.

He scrutinized Su Wenshan for a long time, confirming that Su Wenshan was not lying. At such a young age like Su Wenshan’s, if he were lying, Lin Tian would have seen through it instantly.

"Wenshan, what then was your purpose for joining the Sun Shadow Association? There must have been a purpose. If you don’t even know that, then how did you make money?" Lin Tian asked the distraught Su Wenshan again.

"I know this, the Sun Shadow Association has us gather information and then hand it over to him; he pays us based on the value of the information. So, the Sun Shadow Association isn’t mixed up in the underworld as you think, it’s all transparent trading," Su Wenshan said, remembering clearly the matter of making money.

Lin Tian detected two critical clues in his words: the Sun Shadow Association paid their members for information without enforcing strict control. Besides, Su Wenshan referred to "him," not "them" or specific individuals’ names.

"What information do you collect? Is there a specific range? Who is he in your mentions, and how does he contact you?" Lin Tian asked several questions in a row.

Su Wenshan wanted to scratch his head, but realizing his hair was too short to grasp, he said somewhat embarrassedly, "The Sun Shadow Association doesn’t specify what information to collect. I also don’t know who he is. He contacts us every three days by phone, and if someone has valuable information, we tell him, and he leaves the money at a certain place for us to retrieve."

"What information did you last tell him?" Lin Tian asked.

"I just told him about some people’s living preferences, habits, and what brands of clothes they like to wear, among other things," Su Wenshan didn’t understand why Lin Tian was asking this, as it all seemed like very simple information to him.

"I see..." Lin Tian didn’t detect anything amiss. Could it be some information company gathering data for market analysis?

It wasn’t unprecedented, like some navigation map making companies would temporarily recruit people to record traffic lights, street names, main buildings, etc., to collect and use the data to refine their maps.

The Sun Shadow Association seemed to be doing similar things, but why do it in such a bizarre manner? Maybe I’m overthinking it; it’s not strange but simply doesn’t want to make the company’s information public. Lin Tian pondered for a long time with no clue.

"Can you take out your phone and try calling that person’s number?" Lin Tian signaled him instead of making fruitless conjectures.

"Alright," Su Wenshan took out his phone from his pocket, found the number, dialed it, and turned on the speaker.

"Hello, the number you have dialed is unassigned..."

A pleasant female voice sounded, but it was clear it was the customer service of the telecommunication operator, surprisingly an unassigned number.

"The number is unassigned," Su Wenshan said to Lin Tian, equally baffled.

There was no way to investigate further, but as there were no signs of danger currently, and Lin Tian had no time to do the legwork, he could only ask Rossi to keep an eye on it.

It could only be watched; the world is full of countless strange occurrences, and Lin Tian couldn’t ask Rossi to investigate everything—such efforts would drive even a vampire to exhaustion.

"Wenshan, the next time that person calls, don’t talk to him about anything, understand? On the surface, this doesn’t seem dangerous, but who knows what undisclosed agendas lie behind it," Lin Tian looked at him seriously and said.

"But..." Su Wenshan hesitated momentarily, seeming reluctant, but glancing at his sister, he could only agree, "Okay, I’ll just ignore him from now on."

Su Wenshan wasn’t foolish; he knew how much trouble it would cause his family if he really got into trouble.

"Little brother, it’s good that you can think this way. Now I can go to work without worry. From now on, just focus on your studies and forget about everything else, all right?" Su Qingqing gratefully looked at Lin Tian before speaking to her brother.

"Studying might not be possible anymore; I have offended a rich heir," Su Wenshan shook his head and said.

"What?" Su Qingqing’s voice rose several octaves, resonating loudly in the night.

As her words fell, the bedroom door suddenly opened, and a woman appeared at the door.

"Mom, why are you up?" Su Wenshan said sheepishly.

It turned out to be Su Qingqing’s mother. However, Lin Tian noticed that the woman was using a crutch, dressed in loose clothing, with somewhat disheveled hair, yet she had a pleasant face, and much of Qingqing and her brother’s beauty and handsomeness likely came from her.

The woman must have been resting, now woken by Su Qingqing’s loud voice. Lin Tian had known there was someone else in the inner room upon entering, but felt it rude to inquire. Su Qingqing quickly helped her mother to a seat.

"Qingqing, is this friend of yours?" the woman looked at Lin Tian and asked.

"Yes, this is Lin Tian," Su Qingqing introduced.

The woman looked at him for a few moments before smiling, "I am Qingqing’s mother, Mrs. Cai. You brought Qingqing home, didn’t you? Thank you so much."

Lin Tian just nodded and said, "Aunty, it’s no trouble; there were no buses late at night, so I just gave her a ride as I was on my way."

He did not tell the whole truth; it actually wasn’t on his way, but rather to assure Qingqing’s mother.

The woman didn’t mind, adjusted her hair, and turned to Su Wenshan, "Wenshan, I thought I heard you say you won’t continue your studies; what’s going on?"

Su Wenshan looked at his sister and then at Lin Tian, not daring to speak, his family had spent so much money on his education, he couldn’t just say it outright.

Eventually, Su Qingqing said, "Little brother has offended a wealthy heir; he might be expelled from the school."

"Did you get into a fight? What exactly happened, explain clearly," the woman was quite reasonable, giving him a chance to explain rather than immediately resorting to using her crutch to beat him.
