Chapter 228: Chapter 227: Challenging the Establishment (Part 1)
"Classmate Zhang Lingyu, if you’re righteous, you have nothing to fear from a twisted shadow! I pride myself on my upstanding behavior. whom are you trying to intimidate? I might owe debts, but I never owe a woman!" Lin Tian declared righteously, following her gaze.
He saw two women standing not far away, with two men behind them, looking indifferently at him. How could it be them? Lin Tian actually recognized these two women; they were none other than Zhao Rong and Sister Jin. The men behind them, however, were unfamiliar, probably there to make up the numbers.
"What do you want? Spit it out, I’m very busy. I don’t have time to dawdle with you," Lin Tian said curtly. It had taken him the whole afternoon to enjoy some sunshine, yet he always encountered these pushy people. No one could expect him to be in a good mood.
Sister Jin’s brows arched, and she spoke curtly, "Our time is more precious than yours, hmm, our Taekwondo Club’s director has requested to meet you downstairs."
"Vice Director Jin? His hand is injured; why isn’t he resting? Why would he invite me?" Lin Tian assumed it was that Vice Director Jin and found it very strange. Was he a masochist who still wanted more punishment?
"No, not him. It’s our chief director, Mr. Cui Haolong, " Sister Jin mentioned the name, lifting her chin proudly as if speaking of someone very important.
Lin Tian knew nothing about this supposed chief director, but the fact that he had established himself in Xikou City without being ousted by other Martial Arts clubs meant he must be somewhat capable.
To open a martial arts club in Xikou City, it’s customary to pay respects to the local martial arts powers, a tradition in Huaxia. Otherwise, local clubs wouldn’t allow another Taekwondo club to exist. This suggests Cui Haolong must be skilled to have earned recognition from the local martial arts clubs.
Of course, there was also a possibility that Cui Haolong had powerful connections and climbed through the upper echelons to establish his Taekwondo Club.
However, Lin Tian didn’t care about any of those; he simply extended his hand towards Sister Jin.
"What for?" Sister Jin asked.
"For the invite of course. What, did you think you’re the Emperor, and people must come running when you speak? Without an invitation, I’m off," Lin Tian sneered, thinking they were treating him like a naive youngster.
"Here, give it to him," Sister Jin handed it to a man behind her, having initially not intended to produce the invitation, thinking Lin Tian wasn’t worthy of it.
"Alright, lead the way," Lin Tian took the invitation without even looking at it and casually stuffed it into his pocket.
Sister Jin and Zhao Rong couldn’t show their anger and just turned around to lead the way. The Taekwondo Club was on the floor below, and Lin Tian, along with Xiao Manxuan and the other two women, followed them down.
After swiping their cards to enter, Lin Tian stepped into the training hall of the club. The hall was spacious, with glass walls on both sides providing plenty of light. Across from the hall’s entrance, the club’s plaque hung, inscribed with ’Haolong Taekwondo Club.’
Above the plaque hung a calligraphy painting, inscribed with: Integrity, Patience, Self-control, Indomitable Spirit. These are the core tenets of Taekwondo, though implementing them is another matter entirely.
At the moment, many students were training, kicking and stretching energetically. Here, the students were grouped by rank; the white and yellow belts clustered together, taught by a black belt instructor, while the blue and red belts gathered elsewhere, also under the guidance of a black belt.
In Taekwondo, only those who have achieved at least a first dan black belt can teach, and only those with a fourth dan or higher can open a club. Lin Tian recalled that Sun Decai was a first dan; perhaps he trained here.
"Where is your director Cui Haolong? Is this the kind of hospitality synonymous with your Taekwondo spirit?" Lin Tian deliberately raised his voice and yelled.
This shout attracted the attention of every student and instructor. The two black belt instructors, both in their thirties, one of whom was a woman, looked furiously at Lin Tian. His comment was undoubtedly disparaging their Taekwondo Club.
The majority of the students, modern-day folks unlike those from ancient times without a strong sense of faction or loyalty, watched curiously. They were a mix of rich ’second generation’ kids and high-level professional executives, learning self-defense skills.
They didn’t care how the Taekwondo Club was run; if the teaching was subpar, they would complain. Now, with what seemed like a challenge to the dojo, their inherent competitive spirit was ignited, and most of them wished for a physical contest right there to broaden their horizons.
"That guy looks so young. He speaks so aggressively; is he here to challenge the club?"
"Yes, so exciting! Last time someone made trouble, the instructor kicked him flying with one kick. I wonder how this young man will do?"
"Wow, those three beauties, did you see? Could they be celebrities from somewhere? They’re so beautiful. Compared to them, those TV actresses are nothing!"
...
People everywhere love a spectacle, and this group of corporate elites was no exception. The debates were already swirling even before anything had started.
Lin Tian glanced at Sister Jin and Zhao Rong, who were standing nonchalantly, showing no intention of summoning the director. Their demeanor made it clear to Lin Tian; they were aiming to intimidate.
As expected, the female instructor stepped forward, frowning at Lin Tian and said with a sneer, "Do you think our director is someone you can just meet? Given your tone, you must be quite skilled. Draw a line, let’s spar. Otherwise, don’t blame us for not being polite."
Not blame you for not being polite? As if you are being polite now! Lin Tian chuckled and shook his head.
"What does that shake of your head mean, looking down on our Haolong Taekwondo Club?" Since that’s the case, we might have to determine who’s superior, otherwise our club can’t establish itself!" the female instructor’s eyebrows shot up, stepping forward again, insisting that he couldn’t back down now.
"No, no, no, I think you misunderstood me. As a gentleman, how could I possibly fight a lady? Here, I have a female friend who has also trained for two years; perhaps you could spar with her," Lin Tian wasn’t falling for it. Going head-to-head with her in front of everyone, he wouldn’t see a good outcome.
Winning was expected because he was a man; losing, however, would be disgraceful, losing to a woman? How could he possibly hold his head up after that?
"Shh..." The students collectively hissed at Lin Tian. They had seen his confident demeanor and thought he was skilled, not expecting him to back down so quickly.
"He looks so handsome; I thought he could really fight!" a female white-collar student expressed disappointment.
"All show and no substance," another female student remarked.
Lin Tian was left exasperated by their flawed logic. What did his looks have to do with his fighting skills?
